Lesbians react to London Pride

Some very passionate responses from the lesbian community, since the anti-trans protests.

When Jennifer James pushed to sue the labour party, the result was the labour party clarified it's position as self-id for AWS

This has a similar ring to it, as the anti-trans protesters tried to co-opt the lesbian community, there has been a vocal backlash and clarification of support for trans people.

There's a hashtag to check out... twitter.com/hashtag/LWithTheT?src=hash

@Daimbars you are challenged repeatedly here because you hold to conservative sexist boy brain girl brain ideology, which is harmful and regressive. You believe that on the whole boys and girls have different natures that they are born with. Everything else you say flows from that fundamental belief, which is in keeping with mysogny. I can see you feel victimised particularly when you hold up the fact that you are a lesbian and people then ask you quite specific questions about how your views hold with your sexuality, but genuinely you come into flack here because feminists do not like boy brain girl brain ideology. We believe that gender us a social construct and there is plenty of good evidence for this. Boy brain girl brain ideology is folklore.

Do we need the dictionary again?
rape culture
noun
1 a society or environment whose prevailing social attitudes have the effect of normalizing or trivializing sexual assault and abuse."the film takes a look at rape culture and what it means to be a woman in a male-dominated society"

Pratchet · 08/07/2018 20:36

It's an awfully Victorian attitude.

thebewilderness · 08/07/2018 20:37

Sexual orientation is a protected characteristic under the EA. Defaming Lesbians on MN for demonstrating against misogyny and homophobia at Pride is extremely inappropriate.
More than any other women the Lesbians do not identify themselves by their relationship to men. OP calling a Lesbian rights demonstration anti-trans, at Pride where standing against homophobia is the very purpose of the parade, is homophobic and misogynist.
Get the L out is not a new idea, or a new Lesbian organization. It has been growing since the transgender advocates took over leadership of the LGBT organizations and began demonizing women who say no.

I am just glad the Lesbians were not beaten in London as they were elsewhere.
4th rule of misogyny: Women's opinions are violence against men thus male violence against women is justified.

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice · 08/07/2018 20:38

Can they get at the edit histories

Possibly. Not the common or garden incel weirdos that bicker away though. Grin

MissSusanSays · 08/07/2018 20:41

Daim

So would you agree then that anyone telling someone that should have sex with another person despite sexual preferences would be inciting coercion and possibly rape?

Would you agree then that if there are people out there who are advocating that lesbians must consider sex with a pre-op transwoman then those people are being homophobic?

thebewilderness · 08/07/2018 20:44

I understand rape culture to be normalising rape.

So you are accusing trans women of normalising rape.

Therefore you are accusing them of being rapists.

That has been an MRA tenet for many years. It is also the mansplaination for accusing women of hating men whenever we say no to them. This is how they justify violence against women.

Abouttoblow · 08/07/2018 20:44

Daim
Is the heat getting to you?

Either that or you've been left at home alone and are struggling to Google answers.

It's all a bit strange.....

MissSusanSays · 08/07/2018 20:45

Milord, I give you my first piece of evidence:

queerfeminism.com/2012/03/27/the-cotton-ceiling-is-real-and-its-time-for-all-queer-and-trans-people-to-fight-back/

TerfsUp · 08/07/2018 20:46

Anyone who uses the term "cis lesbians" is full of shit. I don't care what their views on TRA ideology are.

Beachcomber · 08/07/2018 20:48

The leaflet says that rape and death threats made to lesbians (and calling them transphobic) for not wanting to have sex with people with male reproductive systems is a manifestation of rape culture.

I totally agree with them. Good on them for saying it.

I think we can all agree that male persons harassing female persons who do not want to have sex with them is a manifestation of rape culture. I think we can also all agree that it is rapey when male persons pester lesbians for sex and abuse them when they refuse.

It's very simple and easy to grasp (especially if you read the leaflet).

Floorplan · 08/07/2018 20:49

Oh I love this screenshot from the BBC website. I thought the short write up was pretty balanced considering it's the BBC. But look at the caption to the photo - most diverse yet - so diverse that self-proclaimed female homosexuals were kicked out!Hmm

thebewilderness · 08/07/2018 20:50

Where we are right now is that transgeder advocates and their organization spokespersons have declared women's rights anti-trans and Lesbian's rights anti-trans.
I think it is past time for transgender advocates to recognize the homophobia and misogyny they are advocating.

anotherangel2 · 08/07/2018 20:51

Thanks daimbars. Was this group called Lout? It was there name that really confused me. Were they calling for lesbians to boycott pride?

FloralBunting · 08/07/2018 20:52

This might be hard to believe, but this actually the thread in which I finally give up on daim's claims to good faith.

For a lesbian to persist in reading this event in the most obtuse way possible, and rampantly goad through all the threads about it, as though immune to accurate assessments of rather nasty lesbophobia because of a previous identification as a woman married to a woman, has just jangled my alarm bells one time too many.

I admit that I was a homophobe when I was fundamentalist Christian, even while being attracted to women. Being attracted to someone of your own sex does not create a permashield halo that means you can be as manipulative and unpleasant as you like about those that share your orientation.

It is not bigotry to say lesbian = female homosexual. For a claimed lesbian to say that it is, is just way, way too far down the street of "I don't fucking believe a word you say."

Abouttoblow · 08/07/2018 20:52

Hey Daim you're missed over on the other thread. You know the one where you said

transphobic lesbians trying to hijack pride over a few Tweets they've found online about a female penis

Come on over and enlighten us all.

MissSusanSays · 08/07/2018 20:52

Pflt
Obviously, penis owners get all sulky when you decided not to have sex with them. Then they accuse you of being a lesbian. Now they can also accuse you of being a bigot for not wanting to shag them too.

There is no winning for women. Odd how so many male egos are so inately ties to how much women want to shag them.

Poor fools, they don’t ever consider that personality and personal preferences are a factor.

LangCleg · 08/07/2018 20:54

shone a light on the very darkest aspect of GC feminism

If being pro-lesbian is the very darkest aspect of GC feminism then I'm the Empress of Darkest Aspect. Proud of it, too.

UglyCathKidstonBag · 08/07/2018 20:58

Daim and OP, so are you saying this never happens to women? I’m not lesbian but bi and have been attacked (I know several women in the NW of England who have) in my social circles for confirming I wouldn’t have sex with a trans woman. I have been told I am a nazi and must include people I don’t want to within my dating pool. I’ve spoken about this under another user name and also on a thread earlier this weekend.

There are women out there who are lesbian and now have PTSD from being coerced into having sex that involves penis, in order to look “woke”.

How do you respond to that happening? How are we supposed to protest this? When? In a quiet room when no one is watching or on a national stage? If the other letters don’t listen to the L, when do they get to talk? When are the voices of the oppressed allowed to be heard? WHEN?

Count me in on being part of that dark aspect, too.

To summarise: lesbians = women who are sexually attracted to other women. Lesbian =/= anti-trans. Women = adult females. Transwomen =/= women.

TheFemaleGaze · 08/07/2018 21:06

@daimbars Read @uglyCathKidstonbag 's post just above yours...

UglyCathKidstonBag · 08/07/2018 21:07

No I think that would be ridiculous. We're talking about fully grown women with minds of their own who have the capacity and mental ability to refuse to sleep with someone they are not attracted to.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahhahhahahahahahahahaha

Yes because that always works out so well for women. Always.

I now consider you a complete and utter liar.

TerfsUp · 08/07/2018 21:08

No I think that would be ridiculous. We're talking about fully grown women with minds of their own who have the capacity and mental ability to refuse to sleep with someone they are not attracted to.

Yeah. Because life is that simple.

LeiaTheSlaya · 08/07/2018 21:10

Aw come on Daim, you're not even trying.

Where's the word salad?
