Lesbians react to London Pride

Some very passionate responses from the lesbian community, since the anti-trans protests.

When Jennifer James pushed to sue the labour party, the result was the labour party clarified it's position as self-id for AWS

This has a similar ring to it, as the anti-trans protesters tried to co-opt the lesbian community, there has been a vocal backlash and clarification of support for trans people.

There's a hashtag to check out... twitter.com/hashtag/LWithTheT?src=hash

that women are free to define themselves according to their own beliefs, and nobody else's.

They're free to define themselves yes. But they still come up against the Real World, and not all opinions are of equal validity.

littlbrowndog · 09/07/2018 20:56

As a woman on here, though, I'm not feeling very well liked right now.

I'm sure you're very nice when you're not preaching inane wokeness, spouting biased gobbledygook, condoning shitty behaviour from TRAs and dismissing other women's and especially lesbians' concerns and feelings. If you want to be liked maybe dial that down a tad?

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 09/07/2018 21:00

WeeBisom · 09/07/2018 21:00

LGBTQIA: You say that "women are free to define themselves according to their own beliefs, and nobody else's", which is all fine and dandy; but where's the limit to this kind of thinking? Can I define myself as a different age, just because I 'identify' as a child? Can I define myself as a different race, or nationality? Can I define myself as blind even if I can see? From the trans activism side of things, I see a huge amount of support for people being the sole determiners of what they are with no reference to reality. Why does this freedom to define oneself ONLY apply to sex, and not to any other social category? Can't you see why women get a bit upset at being called bigots for policing their boundaries and definitions when literally every other single social group is allowed to tell fakers, imposters, and wannabes to piss off? Why is only one kind of 'trans' real? Why are only some beliefs about personal identity respected, and others are not?

Ucantarguewistupid · 09/07/2018 21:03

Strange but I get the feeling that there are a lot of female born women who are not feeling very much liked either here, on Twitter or at Pride..... by trans people mostly and their friends

FloralBunting · 09/07/2018 21:04

LGBTQIA, it's not cos you're a woman. It's because you're doing the wide-eyed ingenue thing so beloved of daim before they gave up on the pretence and just said they thought lesbians were bigots and meanies for saying a lesbian is a born female homosexual.
I shall be naive again and assume that you have good intentions, but seriously, how can you hear lesbians sharing their negative experiences of pushy penis owners and their allies, and not be outraged and appalled? If you are a person who comes in good faith to 'learn why' the lesbians at Pride protested, then why do you refuse to engage with the substance of the complaint? It's just dismissal after dismissal.

UpstartCrow · 09/07/2018 21:04

Having beer bottles thrown at you for saying Lesbian = female homosexual will have that effect.

53rdWay · 09/07/2018 21:04

and as a woman it is in my right to disagree with you and explain why.

Well of course it is. But doing so requires a decent understanding of what you’re disagreeing with, you’d agree? If you didn’t even know that ‘TERF’ was considered a slur on MN, I’d humbly submit you may not have a fully comprehensive understanding of what views MN holds.

For the record: I think trans people face discrimination and violence, internationally, and that this is horrendous. (I would also suggest here that most of said violence comes from men, not the feminists who get all the flack for it.) I totally agree that trans people should have the right to live the lives they choose free from that. I don’t believe in gender identity, but I appreciate that other people do, and that they have a right to do so. I hope said belief brings them happiness.

I also think the only useful definition of ‘woman’ is biological.

This is the kind of view that is getting described as right-wing, Nazi-associated hatred. I’m sure you can appreciate why feminists like me might feel a tad misrepresented?

Loopytiles · 09/07/2018 21:04

People’s interests don’t always align.

It is not OK to tell gay women that they should consider having sexual relationships with people with penises.

Nor to de facto seek to end single sex facilities and services.

LGBTQIA · 09/07/2018 21:04

Perhaps if people would stop dismissing my feelings and concerns, telling me I'm being inane and spouting gobbledygook, I'll be able to 'dial down' my disagreeable female views for you?

Ereshkigal · 09/07/2018 21:05

This.

And in all honesty we have had conversions before and we have mostly all gone from 'woke' to 'Hang on a fucking second - dicks aren't lesbian' so do come see us again when you work it out. We have Gin

littlbrowndog · 09/07/2018 21:08

Nopes don’t start doing that stuff

U did not show concern at all bout the lesbians being abused on Twitter

U were much mor3 concerned to show us how woke u was

53rdWay · 09/07/2018 21:09

Same here but for sharing my experience with attempts at corrective rape which were laughed at.

Seeing as you literally insulted me using for expressing a view that didn't correspond with your own, I'd rather not, thank you.

UglyCathKidstonBag · 09/07/2018 21:11

It’s interesting how so many people are happy to out themselves as homophobes with their posts on here and actions the wider world.
