Lesbians react to London Pride

Some very passionate responses from the lesbian community, since the anti-trans protests.

When Jennifer James pushed to sue the labour party, the result was the labour party clarified it's position as self-id for AWS

This has a similar ring to it, as the anti-trans protesters tried to co-opt the lesbian community, there has been a vocal backlash and clarification of support for trans people.

There's a hashtag to check out... twitter.com/hashtag/LWithTheT?src=hash

Wich comparing transgender people to rapists and handing out leaflets at PRIDE saying trans is a rape culture is pretty hateful.

Pratchet · 08/07/2018 20:03

Ah, the fragrant Aimee Challenor.

Those women have shot fear through the transactivists. Look at the astonishing over reaction.

CatchingBabies · 08/07/2018 20:04

Pro-lesbian not anti-trans!

Transgender people have been around for ever, they are always included in pride events etc. Only recently have some men decided that they would like to take away the few rights that women and lesbians get by self-declaring themselves female. That is what these women are protesting against! The idea that refusing to sleep with a penis, whether attached to male or a transwoman is somehow transphobic.

Call your penis a large clit etc. whatever makes you happy but don’t expect a lesbian to be ok with that! I have been called a vagina fetishist for stating that as a lesbian I would not sleep with anyone that has a penis. I have been told I’m not a real lesbian as if I was I should be attracted to women, no matter what their genitals are. I am being told I am the one that is wrong for daring to be an actual female that happens to be a lesbian.

I support anyone having the right to do what makes them happy but the current trans campaigns are actively seeking to take away rights and freedoms from another oppressed minority rather than fighting for their own individual ones and that’s what I, and many lesbians, have an issue with.

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice · 08/07/2018 20:04

comparing being transgender to 'rape culture' effectively calling trans people rapists.

I think you had a logic fail there. 'Rape culture' is about a culture of beliefs, norms and myths that enable endemic rape.

Being transgender is not 'being a culture' - that wouldn't make sense. Being transgender is having certain beliefs and acting in accordance with those beliefs.

Speaking about the nature of rape culture and what influences it is not the same as saying 'all men are rapists'.

MissSusanSays · 08/07/2018 20:04

Daim Just out of curiosity. Would you call me homophobic for ruling out sex with another woman because I’m straight? It just doesn’t do it for me.

Would it be phobic if hit on by a woman to tell her (politely) that I don’t sleep with women and don’t like pussy.

Or would I be well within my rights to have a sexual preference based on sex and genitals?

Floorplan · 08/07/2018 20:04

a natal lesbian is a female born who has consensual sex with only female born people

Pratchet · 08/07/2018 20:04

@mnhq please look at the OP link to majorly banned material

LeiaTheSlaya · 08/07/2018 20:04

Is the OP Laurie Penny? She's said on twitter she's seen no evidence of the sexual harassment of lesbians by TW even from lesbians posting their own experiences in her TL. It's like there's a wilful blindness afflicting a large number of people wading into this.

Seems that denial isn't just a river in Egypt after all...

Floorplan · 08/07/2018 20:05

with the emphasis on consensual

SuperDandy · 08/07/2018 20:06

anotherangel it wasn't just banners. It went a lot further than that in the leaflet, which I'm posting again here so you can read the text for yourself.

A lot of people (GC feminists excepted, natch) feel that the leaflet is anti trans and should not have been distributed at the head of a parade celebrating LBGT+ diversity and inclusivity.

Floorplan · 08/07/2018 20:06

rather than coerced, bullyed, guilt-tripped, enforced,..

TerfAndSerf · 08/07/2018 20:06

Funny how many 'lesbians' are called Mark, Nate, Paul and Ben. 🤔

daimbars · 08/07/2018 20:06

No MissSusanSays of course I wouldn't.

But I would call you homophobic if you turned up at Pride with leaflets calling gay men rapists.

SomeDyke · 08/07/2018 20:07

Well, if only takes 10 dykes with leaflets and dictionary definitions on signs to hijack the entire march (i mean not even any pastel painted baseball bats or thrown bottles), then the rest of the march is a big bunch of softies! Go the dykes! :-)

The old style lesbian sex wars at lesbian strength was a much wilder ruckus. Oh the power of dyke demonstrators!

TheFemaleGaze · 08/07/2018 20:07

@floorplan I get the consensual bit but seriously, the rest is just a word salad. I'm too old for this (and 20+ years with a woman, I might add).

Pratchet · 08/07/2018 20:08

Unbelievable that transactivists think a feminism board is the place for goady, sexist trans evangelism, but Pride isn't the place for female homosexuality. The stench of hypocrisy is overwhelming.

UpstartCrow · 08/07/2018 20:08

Coercing women to have sex is rape culture.

Lesbian is not an identity, it is a protected characteristic.

BeyondRaggydoll · 08/07/2018 20:09

"a lot of people"

Well that's weird - I shared the text after seeing people comment on the "anti trans" protest. Every person who commented (GC feminists excepted, natch...) said it was entirely reasonable and rather "no shit, Sherlock"...

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 08/07/2018 20:10

'calling gay men rapists'?? I thought they were 'male lesbians' not gay men - am I missing something here?

TheRollingCrone · 08/07/2018 20:10

Fuck - when material reality slaps everyone up. Lesbian = female homosexual.

daimbars · 08/07/2018 20:10

Accusing trans people of being rapists at an event specifically designed to celebrate them. Hateful stuff

Lesbians react to London Pride
53rdWay · 08/07/2018 20:11

Good circular logic, isn't it? "We know there is nothing in transactivism for lesbians to be concerned about, because no lesbians have ever faced any problems because of it. Therefore, these lesbians saying they have faced problems because of it MUST be lying bigots."

Followed up with: "No lesbians are getting bullied and abused for their sexuality or their beliefs. Therefore, it's perfectly fine for us to bully and abuse these lesbians for mentioning their sexuality or their beliefs. In fact, we'll prove they're wrong about lesbian erasure by demanding they are shut out of Pride, that'll show them!"

Pratchet · 08/07/2018 20:12

You just had #rapeculture explained to you. Are you ignoring that on purpose? Why would you do that.

BeyondRaggydoll · 08/07/2018 20:12

Rape culture doesn't mean men are rapists. You do know this is the feminism board, don't you Daim? Women posting here generally know what rape culture means... Confused

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice · 08/07/2018 20:12

But I would call you homophobic if you turned up at Pride with leaflets calling gay men rapists.

The dangers of ingesting too much word salad. It causes the logical brain to atrophy.
