Lesbians react to London Pride

Some very passionate responses from the lesbian community, since the anti-trans protests.

When Jennifer James pushed to sue the labour party, the result was the labour party clarified it's position as self-id for AWS

This has a similar ring to it, as the anti-trans protesters tried to co-opt the lesbian community, there has been a vocal backlash and clarification of support for trans people.

There's a hashtag to check out... twitter.com/hashtag/LWithTheT?src=hash

Well yes, but this was a protest about women's experience in the LGBT community. Or do protests also have to be fully inclusive as well now.

Protests can include whatever they like. However if people object to the subject of the protest, as people are wont to do when it involves spreading unsubstantiated rhetoric on a marginalized group, then we are allowed to voice that without being told we're misogynistic.

UglyCathKidstonBag · 09/07/2018 18:33

No I think that would be ridiculous. We're talking about fully grown women with minds of their own who have the capacity and mental ability to refuse to sleep with someone they are not attracted to.

It was this rape culture support filled paragraph that you posted.

pom

Really? It's now safe and absolutely A-OK to go about your life as a lesbian, or B/G without prejudice?

Well thats great if its true isnt it pom, certainly puts my mind at rest that if ds1 and his boyfriend are having a hug in the shopping centre or holding hands then no one will stare or say anything OR HURT THEM

I think thats bullshit myself but still...

BeyondRaggydoll · 09/07/2018 18:39

That'll explain the influx of homosexual footballers then, now the UK is so accepting. Oh no, wait. Hmm

daimbars · 09/07/2018 18:41

Right, so anyone who isn't gender critical is now a violent rape apologist. Okaaaay then.

pombear · 09/07/2018 18:42

Absolutely Rufus, didn't you get the memo? LGB people can go about their lives without prejudice according to some posters here.

Your son is privileged in his G status - he's just there to add glitter to the parade. (Or not, depending on whether he likes glitter or not, in our feminist world of...you like what you like, whoever you are!)

It's only trans people who are at risk nowadays. The most oppressed. (Though I'm going to reiterate, if most trans people 'pass', how are they identified and therefore need Pride to be about them, because surely they just end up looking the same as either L, G, B or straight people - and there's no longer any prejudice against these groups?)

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 09/07/2018 18:44

NO!!!!

There was a memo???

Fuckin' hell i miss everything!!

pombear · 09/07/2018 18:44

Excuse me to all posters past and previous whilst I decompress here, in a post, after reading a very recent post.

AAARRRRGHHHH. GRRRRRRRR. WTTTTTFFFFFF. PFFFTTTTT. Oh for fucks sake. Fucking gaslighting.

Thank you, and apologies in advance. I'm off to do the downward dog or similar calming shit.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 09/07/2018 18:44

Right, so anyone who isn't gender critical is now a violent rape apologist. Okaaaay then.

Yes. That's exactly what was said. You haven't twisted it at all there.

Do you not think people can read?

BeyondRaggydoll · 09/07/2018 18:46

Well, considering the amount of times rape culture has been explained, some people clearly can't read.

pombear · 09/07/2018 18:49

Rufus much in the style of Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, your memo about LGB now living without prejudice or fear was in the cellar.

LGBTQsoup: That’s the display department.

Rufus: With a torch!

LGBTQsoup: The lights, had… probably gone.

Rufus: So had the stairs!

LGBTQsoup: Well you found the notice didn’t you?

Rufus: Yes. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet, stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying “Beware of the Leopard”. Ever thought of going into advertising?

NotTerfNorCis · 09/07/2018 18:49

daimbars it was when you said no woman could be coerced/pressured into sex she didn't want. E.g. unless there's violence, drugging etc she must have wanted it. That's not a very typical feminist stance (although admittedly Germaine Greer got into trouble for saying something similar ).

BlytheByName · 09/07/2018 18:52

I wish I were good with technology.
Someone so needs to make Ruth Hunt into the brown-clothed aunts in the Handmaids Tale.

Her response was so predictable. She drank the koolaid after bathing in it.
Stonewall has hemorrhaged lesbian volunteers since the trans input.
They haven't spoken for lesbians for years.

Biologifemini · 09/07/2018 18:55

If you want to get really riled up then check out the article in the guardian today about lesbians......quote in there from a ‘trans lesbian’.
I think it is now deliberate.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 09/07/2018 19:00

We're talking about fully grown women with minds of their own who have the capacity and mental ability to refuse to sleep with someone they are not attracted to.
If you can't see the blame on women for rape then you're more willfully blind than I could imagine.

You are saying only women who don't have their own minds, capacity and mental ability will get raped.

What the Actual Fuck.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 09/07/2018 19:01

pom

That's awesome Grin

I love those books though my favourite is the restaurant at the end of the universe

One of my favourite quotes is pictured here

Lesbians react to London Pride
daimbars · 09/07/2018 19:03

Baby you are suggesting trans women are trying to rape these women in the first place!

Rape is the wrong word to use, it's a very serious accusation with absolutely no justification.

SomeDyke · 09/07/2018 19:08

On here, we have the same ole 'loads of lesbians disagree, so you must be wrong', and very little reasoned debate.

And frankly almost zero empathy from the supposedly conforming lesbians and gay men. Despite those in the LGBetc etc word salad who have admitted that (some) lesbians have (some) issues with current 'trends'. So, why are those 'wrong-thinking' lesbians. Why is no one actually listening to them? I mean, it's not as if they are tories (although even tories are okay in the new shiny LGB-and-almost-everyone-else universe). Why is it lesbians who are beyond the pale, not to be talked to, negotiated with, understood, even if you disagree with them?..........

As I said way back, even just a few dykes speaking the truth (lesbians are female homosexuals), is seemingly so bad/evil/heretical. Even if I didn't agree with them, I would still think the reaction to this modest little protest with modest slogans (OED anyone?), and a little leaflet, and look at the virulence of the response!

Time for lesbian separatism to make a come-back perhaps.................

MIdgebabe · 09/07/2018 19:08

If someone says someone tried to rape them, please listen. In the same way as not all men rape women, not all transpeople rape.

if 10'people say they have been subject to threats of rape and bullying, don't dismiss it. Investigate.

MIdgebabe · 09/07/2018 19:10

Oh.. and I didn't realise that just saying no thanks prevented rape. Gee why did no one say earlier.

thebewilderness · 09/07/2018 19:11

Gays, lesbians and bisexuals can easily go about their lives every day without prejudice, but trans people cannot.

Maybe someday women will be able to easily go about their lives every day without prejudice but it is not this day.
