Lesbians react to London Pride

Some very passionate responses from the lesbian community, since the anti-trans protests.

When Jennifer James pushed to sue the labour party, the result was the labour party clarified it's position as self-id for AWS

This has a similar ring to it, as the anti-trans protesters tried to co-opt the lesbian community, there has been a vocal backlash and clarification of support for trans people.

General Melchett has thrown all the toy tanks off the battle map and stormed off.

pombear · 09/07/2018 17:38

As usual at the moment, I'm only able to pop in. This is another fantastic illuminating thread, and thank you to the many who are able to keep it going, shining that light on things!

What struck me, reading mid-thread, is that severe lack of empathy again (I know, I'm giving away the game, as evidenced elsewhere where someone read a 'thing' last night about empathy and came back to demonstrate 'empathy' quickly today - it's like an AI programme learning gradually from how females talk!)

I'm staggered that anyone definitely female and definitely lesbian would be anything other than pretty fucked off by some of the online abuse that females are getting right now. Of the type that a lot of posters pointed out and posted earlier on today on this thread. Regardless of their political stance, females being attacked online this way is heinous, abusive, and not on.

But some posters here "definitely female and definitely lesbian" have studiously avoided commenting on these attacks. Even when asked their opinion on them.

Almost like they want to avoid them, or that they condone them.

That light just keeps getting stronger.

LangCleg · 09/07/2018 17:38

(I'm sorry. I can't even. Lesbians asserting their sexuality at Pride are being called bigots and haters. HQ has sent a fresh influx of woketopians to agree that this is a good thing. What else is left but to talk about General Melchett?)

pombear · 09/07/2018 17:41

I'm not dismissing them Baby - if lesbians feel they need to set up a dating website only for biological females then they should set this up. Not sure why it's anything to do with me?

Terfsup: "I thought you were a lesbian."

Boom!

LangCleg · 09/07/2018 17:44

If you don't know what a lesbian is, you might also be confused about other things, such as cliffs?

Oh, Cliff
Sometimes it must be difficult not to feel as if
You really are a Cliff
When fascists keep trying to push you over it
Are they the lemmings?
Or are you Cliff?
Or are you, Cliff?

daimbars · 09/07/2018 17:45

What struck me, reading mid-thread, is that severe lack of empathy

Me too, me too. My kind, gentle, lovely trans friend was at Pride, so excited to be part of an accepting and supportive community for the day. When it's only one day a year it's a pretty fucking big deal.

And then she saw the protest.

Gays, lesbians and bisexuals can easily go about their lives every day without prejudice, but trans people cannot. It's generally pretty obvious when someone is trans.

Imagine if there was just one day a year, ONE DAY that you could be yourself and nobody would treat you like a piece of dirt and then some people came along on that one day and treated you like a piece of dirt. Absolutely no empathy.

daimbars · 09/07/2018 17:46

Pombear I'm already married (to a woman) why would lesbians setting up a dating site be anything to do with me?

But keep on troll hunting.

Pratchet · 09/07/2018 17:46

Blimey you aren't listening are you Daim. At all.

"It's generally pretty obvious when someone is trans"

How's that then?

LangCleg · 09/07/2018 17:47

Blimey you aren't listening are you Daim. At all.

Reduced to appeals to female socialisation. It's not been a good day for heroically battling the evil [redacted] at FWR.

Pratchet · 09/07/2018 17:48

Get the L out. Next year there will be a bigger protest. And the next. And the next.

Pratchet · 09/07/2018 17:49

It will be huge. Women lying down in the street. Hundreds of us.

Sarahconnor1 · 09/07/2018 17:51

To be fair daimbars I would have some sympathy for that position if women weren't constantly being told no debate, where their meetings are picketed by masked people, when they are abused on line and doxxed, when they are physically attacked for going to a meeting.

This to me is a direct result of the no debate culture.

daimbars · 09/07/2018 17:52

Which bit exactly did they think was hate?

See attached.

Mogleflop · 09/07/2018 17:52

Oh now you had a friend there daim. You didn't mention that in your fevered posts the other day. What's the next twist in your story?

BeyondRaggydoll · 09/07/2018 17:54

Are we seriously all the way back to "I allegedly have no idea what rape culture means and will disingenuously claim it is something else so I can moan about the nasty lesbians"?! 🙄

daimbars · 09/07/2018 17:56

Lots of friends there mog i couldn't make it sadly due to childcare issues.

Datun · 09/07/2018 17:57

Just so I'm clear.

Women are adult human beings who have the potential to gestate, women are adult human beings who identify as women for societal reasons, women are adult human beings who have the potential to produce sperm.

Got it.

Sorry, I mean fuck it.

MIdgebabe · 09/07/2018 17:57

Daimbars, it's also pretty obvious when someone is a woman and that leads to all kinds of abuse. not sure there is one day a year when I can totally forget that.

Surely, if pride had any sense of empathy they could say something along the lines of transphobia will not be tolerated, neither will misogyny.

They could even volunteer to investigate any claims of rape threats or gender conversion coercion.

TerfsUp · 09/07/2018 17:57

"It's generally pretty obvious when someone is trans"

No kidding.

LurkingBee · 09/07/2018 17:58

How is a headline saying
"Stop Rape Culture Against Lesbians"
hate speech Daim?

TerfsUp · 09/07/2018 18:02

Daim's answer, based on previous posts, will be something along the lines of "there is no such thing as a rape culture" and "if they are adults they can just say no".

LGBTQIA · 09/07/2018 18:03

How is a headline saying
"Stop Rape Culture Against Lesbians"
hate speech Daim?

Probably the part that associates the queer community with the straight community and implies that queer people are just as responsible for rape culture. Sounds pretty hateful to me.
