Lesbians react to London Pride

Some very passionate responses from the lesbian community, since the anti-trans protests.

When Jennifer James pushed to sue the labour party, the result was the labour party clarified it's position as self-id for AWS

This has a similar ring to it, as the anti-trans protesters tried to co-opt the lesbian community, there has been a vocal backlash and clarification of support for trans people.

exellent Lurking Bee I will get my best dress out for the award ceremony 😉

Datun · 09/07/2018 09:50

Furthermore daim, I, for one, recognise your tactic of minimising the importance of a statement, that let's face it, most people absolutely agree with, and then try to maximise the importance of another, related statement that you, personally, think could be controversial and you might be able to get it to sound accusatory.

You're already doing your level best to pretend that rape culture means accusing someone of rape.

You're scraping the bottom of the barrel, now.

Ereshkigal · 09/07/2018 09:54

It's the rape culture accusations that are the serious bit imo.

I quite agree. So what should we do to challenge this culture?

Pratchet · 09/07/2018 09:58

Ew

daimbars · 09/07/2018 09:59

Genuine apologies if I've misunderstood but I thought you were accusing transgender women of coercing lesbians to sleep with them against their will? This rape culture is trans people telling lesbians it is transphobic to say no to them?

Is this not what you are saying?

BeyondRaggydoll · 09/07/2018 10:18

Rape. Culture. Is. A. Sociological. Concept. For. A. Setting. In. Which. Rape. Is. Pervasive. And. Normalised. Due. To. Societal. Attitudes. About. Gender. And. Sexuality.

It's a pretty serious accusation and massive sweeping negative generalisation.

Floisme · 09/07/2018 10:28

I normally find women know instinctively what rape culture means. We live it every day.

OvaHere · 09/07/2018 10:36

Any of the language in this article being used to coerce lesbians and distort the true nature of the sex acts they are being asked to perform is the very definition of rape culture.

Don't be ridiculous Ova that article is written for the consenting partners of trans women. Trans women do have sex you know, just like everyone else.

There is also absolutely no mention of lesbians in the article at all so it's completely irrelevant to the thread.

Strigiformes · 09/07/2018 10:52

I find it really interesting seeing how daimbars writes. It's cleverly done and almost persuasive until you actually read what they're saying. It reminds me of a guy I used to know who was brilliant at debating, he would get you so confused and flustered. I have a feeling that daimbars is doing their utmost to wind people up so they can take screen shots and show this thread to their TRA buddies.

To get back on track to the protest at pride, I think that the women who protested are incredibly brave and really got their message across well despite the intimidation and bottle throwing from one individual Flowers

OvaHere · 09/07/2018 11:01

There doesn't need to be. My point is that this is the obfuscation of language where blow jobs are redefined as cunilingus is exactly the sort of pressure young lesbian women are facing.

Redefining the words commonly used for sex acts is coercive especially if refusal to accept the change of use is met with accusations of bigot.

daimbars · 09/07/2018 11:11

Thanks Strigiformes - I'll take that as a compliment!

Of course you don't like what I'm saying because you fundamentally disagree with me, but I'm glad it's almost persuasive. Hopefully any lurkers on the fence will be able to clearly see both sides of the debate.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 09/07/2018 11:12

It's cleverly done

Really?

I must have missed that bit...link or it didnt happen Grin

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 09/07/2018 11:13

Sorry daim that was a bit mean

Thanks

Bit like cellulite

Datun · 09/07/2018 11:17

It's a pretty serious accusation and massive sweeping negative generalisation.

And there it is!

Although, I think you have produced that sentence a little prematurely.

There is no serious accusation, because the words 'rape culture' is not an accusation.

Talking about men who support rape culture is not a 'sweeping generalisation'.

But for the avoidance of doubt, men saying they are lesbians and their penis is a female organ, in order to coerce lesbians into including them either in their dating pool, or as a sex partner, is sexual harassment.

That is a crime.

For the avoidance of doubt, and so you can't twist my words if a man says out loud I'm a lesbian, that is obviously not a crime. If he does it to coerce a lesbian into sex, that is sexual harrassment.

I think we both know the definition of the word rape.

Your problem is you don't understand that ignoring boundaries and consent supports rape culture.

Except you understand only too well about all of this. You just disagree. Which makes you part of the problem.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 09/07/2018 11:19

Mentioning rape was a mistake.

They should have just gone with the "lesbians are exclusively attracted to biological females" banners.

Watching the TRAs try to attack that would have been interesting.

The best Daim has come up with is it's a bit mean.
Oh. Is it?
But why, and is it true?

The rape thing has just led to a whole lot of back footing to justify it, as Daim has so clearly demonstrated on here.

LeiaTheSlaya · 09/07/2018 11:21

Hmm, both sides of the 'is it ok to sexually harass lesbians into coercive sex' debate? You carry on defending TW's right to do that daim, the rest of us will be supporting lesbians & their right to tell anyone who thinks this is in anyway acceptable to fuck right off.

Datun · 09/07/2018 11:22

The rape thing has just led to a whole lot of back footing to justify it, as Daim has so clearly demonstrated on here.

I'm not personally back-footing. I'm explaining.

And largely not to Daim.

Although I'm delighted they keep giving me the opportunity.

LeiaTheSlaya · 09/07/2018 11:23

The 'rape thing' is pretty central to what they were protesting baby. The only people up in arms & mis representing it are those who support rape culture. But we knew that anyway.

daimbars · 09/07/2018 11:28

Datun if you feel individual trans people are committing crimes then report them to the police.

Don't hand out leaflets at Pride suggesting the very nature of being transgender is supporting a rape culture.

Baby is right, the lesbian = female homosexual banner would have been enough of a statement. The rape culture went too far.

OvaHere · 09/07/2018 11:33

Nah. There's no reason lesbians should tread softly softly around an ideology that is lesbophobic. It's better just to rip the band-aid right off.

FloralBunting · 09/07/2018 11:33

Wryly smiling here. The notion that daim would have been 'fine' with the 'lesbian = female homosexual' banners is clearly daim doing the goalpost shift dance.

Remember, lesbians, you need to know your place. Don't go too far, now. Nobody really likes you, like cellulite, but we might be ok with you speaking as long as you don't bring up all the nasty implications of saying people with penises can be lesbians. Can't be sure though, so you should probably shut up so I can blow my rainbow whistle and enjoy the party.
