'It says the shelter requires them to shower in groups, and it opened its doors to a person who identified themself as a transgender woman who made lewd and sexually inappropriate comments, and leered at them while they were naked.

"This is the biggest fear they bring up, that you're going to have people who may not even be transgender in bathrooms and settings where people are naked and their privacy rights are being violated," said Peter Kapetan, who filed the lawsuit on behalf of the women.

Poverello House administrators tell Action News federal law says they have to treat a person identifying as a woman as a woman -- and there's no way to test whether it's true.'

'
The women say they repeatedly complained to staff members, but were told if they didn't respect the person's decision to identify as a woman, and if they refused to take showers at the same time, they'd get kicked out of the shelter.
'

'Karen Adell Scot, a local transgender advocate, even offered to train Naomi's House employees on how to recognize people just pretending to identify as the opposite gender.'

Sorry, I haven't got my glasses on, cannot see the typos. How did anyone ever manage with a typewriter?

My reading of the article was that the courts did not allow the lawyers to define 'sex' or 'opposite sex'.

Yes mine too, it was a Federal Court, so presumably, needs a higher authority (Supreme Court?) to define.

I read in the Micheal Woolf book ostensible about Trump but really about Steve Bannon, that the intentions behind support of the Trump campaign was to engineer a change in the make-up of the Supreme Court to enable them to start to take down the legislation.

I will have to renew my US newspaper subs to see how it's going. I spent all of last year reading them thinking holey fuck, how did that happen, then Woolf's book made it all clear. I loathe Trump (and I've told him on Twitter!) but it's ID Politics that put him in the White House..

"So the US Supreme Court can't define sex?

My reading of the article was that the courts did not allow the lawyers to define 'sex' or 'opposite sex'. But I could be wrong."

Isn't that exactly the issue though? TRAs are trying to redefine sex or rather erase it and base everything of "gender" which is just an identity to them, a feeling, i.e. whatever anyone wants i.e. useless.

R0wantrees · 05/06/2018 20:21

The Federal court wouldn't allow it, presumably due to legislation etc so it would need to go higher for a ruling.

What seems to be happening is that in many countries there are conflicting legislation and laws around sex and gender.

Some definitely deny sex.

"where some women wouldn't necessarily want to exclude such a trans woman".

Some women also say that they feel it is compliment to be groped by a stranger or that they don't mind male abusive "banter" or that is is fine with them not to have the right to vote. So f..ing what? The rest of us (who do NOT have Stockholm syndrome) DO MIND!

Current situation in a refuge for women and children in Canada which seems to echo the OP:
