whatweknow.inequality.cornell.edu/topics/lgbt-equality/%20what-does-the-scholarly-research-say-about-the-well-being-of-transgender-people%20/

Some excerpts:

"We conducted a systematic literature review of all peer-reviewed articles published in English between 1991 and June 2017 that assess the effect of gender transition on transgender well-being."

"This search found a robust international consensus in the peer-reviewed literature that gender transition, including medical treatments such as hormone therapy and surgeries, improves the overall well-being of transgender individuals. The literature also indicates that greater availability of medical and social support for gender transition contributes to better quality of life for those who identify as transgender."

"Regrets following gender transition are extremely rare and have become even rarer as both surgical techniques and social support have improved. Pooling data from numerous studies demonstrates a regret rate ranging from .3 percent to 3.8 percent. Regrets are most likely to result from a lack of social support after transition or poor surgical outcomes using older techniques."

"the health and well-being of transgender people can be harmed by stigmatizing and discriminatory treatment."

Glad we agree. So many here seem to disagree with you

I dont think i have ever seen anyone argue that a transman isnt a woman

But thats not what you mean is it Grin

GibbertyFlibbert · 31/05/2018 12:39

Both groups are women so B1lly you are saying essentially that women like you are more important and should have more respect for their rights than other women who are different to you. That's the sort of argument men has used for years about women and it is very sad to see that sort of view peddled in a feminist area.

DamnDeDoubtanceIsSpartacus · 31/05/2018 12:40

"Just popped over to #mumsnet for a quick browse & noticed the thread from Wakame on transition studies. Women should know he's a well known troll from other boards"

Just read this tweet.

Sarahconnor1 · 31/05/2018 12:42

GibbertyFlibbert so are you saying that women have no right to voice concerns about maintaining sex based protections?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 31/05/2018 12:43

Both groups are women so B1lly

To be really clear, as it seems to be getting a bit confusing.

Woman = adult human female
Transwoman = adult male
Transman = adult female

And I'm using male and female in the same way male and female is applied to any mammal.

Mossandclover · 31/05/2018 12:43

Hmm... picked one of the studies at random - a narrative analysis of qualitative response from a non-random sample drawn from support organisations...

AngryAttackKittens · 31/05/2018 12:46

Who knew that rather poorly designed laws had the power to literally change the past and how human reproductive biology works?

Gender is a religion, and I'm exercising my right not to believe.

GibbertyFlibbert · 31/05/2018 12:49

"so are you saying that women have no right to voice concerns about maintaining sex based protections?"

Definitely not but that's not what we are talking about. There are people here wanting some women to have more rights than other women. That's obviously wrong and bigoted so the only way that they can justify it is with the nonsense that some of those women aren't women. It's exactly the sort of thinking that led to slavery with white slave owners saying that of course all people should be free but only white folk were really people. It was ridiculous and offensive then and it's just as ridiculous and offensive now when people try to deny that some people with female birth certificates aren't really women.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 31/05/2018 12:51

Definitely not but that's not what we are talking about. There are people here wanting some women to have more rights than other women

I genuinely don't understand what you mean by this. Which group of women do "we" want to have more rights, and which group less?

LangCleg · 31/05/2018 12:52

Boring!

If we're going to spend pages upon pages replicating SMG's legal fiction being the same as biology canard, I couldn't agree more.

There are people here wanting some women to have more rights than other women.

Clearly, we are.

MIdgebabe · 31/05/2018 12:52

we are most clearly saying that one group thinks itself more important than another . As usual it's a group of men who think they are more important than the women. Pretending they are women doesn't reduce the impact.

And apologies to transwomen and men who don't think themselves any more important and recognise that they are in some ways different. I hope that you are much happier and healthier than some of the other poor souls appear to be.

Sarahconnor1 · 31/05/2018 12:52

ItsAllGoingToBeFine, you beat me too it.

Ereshkigal · 31/05/2018 12:53

That poster is pushing the same inane brand of Orwellian nonsense on multiple threads. I particularly enjoyed hearing about the woke party they held where they challenged partygoers to spot the trans people.

Ereshkigal · 31/05/2018 12:54

If we're going to spend pages upon pages replicating SMG's legal fiction being the same as biology canard, I couldn't agree more.

YY I will have to sit on my hands!

LangCleg · 31/05/2018 12:54

I genuinely don't understand what you mean by this. Which group of women do "we" want to have more rights, and which group less?

They mean the legal fiction of a GRC trumps biology and they're prepared to derail every single thread wasting our time on it, a bit like SMG does.

AngryAttackKittens · 31/05/2018 12:54

Yeah I'm really not up for another round of "this wine is blood because someone said the magic words over it". Especially when the consequences may involve unwanted cock in spaces where women and girls are naked.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 31/05/2018 12:56

Link erish?

Thats a really weird fucking thing to do to your guests

AngryAttackKittens · 31/05/2018 12:56

Forget sitting on the hands, I'm off to look at more fun things on YouTube until the evangelists get bored with trolling for today.

LangCleg · 31/05/2018 12:56

Either way, a flawed study about transition satisfaction rates is not a feminist issue. Not even a pomo-addled faux feminist issue.

Sarahconnor1 · 31/05/2018 12:57

Especially when the consequences may involve unwanted cock in spaces where women and girls are naked.

Beautifully put. I shall engage in this no more.

AngryAttackKittens · 31/05/2018 12:57

Maybe I'm just a bad influence but I feel like if everyone is still woke at the end it can't have been much of a party...

GibbertyFlibbert · 31/05/2018 13:00

"Gender is a religion, and I'm exercising my right not to believe."

Pronouns are a linguistic concept and based on gender. That is why the Government gives passports to people in their correct gender long before their sex is changed by the Gender Recognition Act. So, if you don't believe in gender, do you prefer it or ze as the pronoun to describe yourself?

JessicaEccles · 31/05/2018 13:01

They are born women so yes.

Confused- if they are born women that why are they 'transitioning' to women?

Ereshkigal · 31/05/2018 13:02

Maybe I'm just a bad influence but I feel like if everyone is still woke at the end it can't have been much of a party...

Grin
AngryAttackKittens · 31/05/2018 13:03

My pronouns are "don't give a shit" and "who cares when everyone can tell I have a uterus anyway?".

And that's all you're getting from me. YouTube beckons!
