Some excerpts:

"We conducted a systematic literature review of all peer-reviewed articles published in English between 1991 and June 2017 that assess the effect of gender transition on transgender well-being."

"This search found a robust international consensus in the peer-reviewed literature that gender transition, including medical treatments such as hormone therapy and surgeries, improves the overall well-being of transgender individuals. The literature also indicates that greater availability of medical and social support for gender transition contributes to better quality of life for those who identify as transgender."

"Regrets following gender transition are extremely rare and have become even rarer as both surgical techniques and social support have improved. Pooling data from numerous studies demonstrates a regret rate ranging from .3 percent to 3.8 percent. Regrets are most likely to result from a lack of social support after transition or poor surgical outcomes using older techniques."

"the health and well-being of transgender people can be harmed by stigmatizing and discriminatory treatment."

Just a little plug from a pediatrician: when the rare baby arrives with ambiguous genitalia, physicians no longer arbitrarily "assign" a sex based on what the genitals most closely resemble. In the last 2-3 decades, we happen to have a great little specialty called "genetics," and will almost always send a chromosomal study. Additionally, we can use imaging modalities (ultrasound, MRI) to look for gonads and internal organs.

I'm tired of intersex individuals being brought up as a main topic of discussion when considering the issue of transgender individuals. Yes, there are horror stories of individuals who have suffered from grave errors in medical judgment regarding their genitalia and sexual identification, but for babies born in developed nations, this is no longer the case and hasn't been for a number of years.

I think we should put logic onto the National Curriculum

That day cannot come soon enough

CharlieParley · 01/06/2018 20:59

A course on logic was actually part of my degree in journalism (alongside ones on research incl fact checking, ethics and media theroy too, exploring how media can manipulate the truth, set agendas and so shape people's reality).

I cannot ever adequately express how I long for the days when that knowledge was considered a necessary part of any respectable journalist's skill set...

Not when the aim of an aspiring journalist was, quite simply, to tell the truth

Not = nor

Tired posting sorry
