Posie

Where the fuck has the Posie thread gone and why??

So posie has views which have got her no platformed by WPUK.

and now MN will not let us discuss her no platforming???

WTF is happening?? How scary is this shit?

The reason I can see given is that the WPUK decision was not to do with MN.

99% of threads are about people/organsitions/decisions not to do with MN. That explanation makes no sense.

Did Posie ask for it to go?

I thought she was getting mostly support on there.

The WPUK statement has now been tagged onto the original post about the Truro meeting. Smells of an attempt to bury bad news.

Elendon · 30/05/2018 12:21

It wasn't Posie's thread though.

My feeling is that the OP asked for it to be deleted.

WhatTheWaterShowedMe · 30/05/2018 12:22

I tried to post the following on the thread just as it got zapped:

I'm disappointed Posie Parker isn't going to be at WP in Cornwall- I'd wanted to challenge her in the Q&A section of the meeting regards the tweets about transmen. I hadn't seen any of the other tweets relating to race or religion- will look later.

However, I also understand, why WPUK would not want to host Posie based on the sterilization comment. Saying any group of women should be sterilised has some extremely dark historic connotations and, is in my opinion, un-feminist.

WPUK and other GC feminists are already fighting a battle to have our say whilst constantly being labelled hateful transphobes. This comment is catnip to the TRAs, and is probably going to frighten transmen/ NB women when it is inevitably, endlessly retweeted in their timelines to prove we're evil people who are suggesting eugenics.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 30/05/2018 12:22

Weird thread policing going on!

It's not just the OP though all the supportive posts are lost.

Yep I just thought that

There is a real threat to free speech in this country at the moment.

I may or may not agree with all that she says but I support free speech within the law.

This is the thread deletion message:

Thread deleted

Message from MNHQ: We do not feel that this is a decision relevant to Mumsnet and so we are going to take the thread down.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 30/05/2018 12:23

Do MN delete threads if OP asks?
Maybe that was it.

OP did seem uncomfortable with it.

BeyondSceptical · 30/05/2018 12:24

I very much doubt it would have been posie who wanted it gone as

  1. It was supportive of her and '
  2. Free speech.
Elendon · 30/05/2018 12:25

I also abhor eugenics, it smacks of Ayn Rand.

However it was not on the sterilisation tweet that Parker was no platformed. Which adds grist to the mill.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 30/05/2018 12:27

What's going on? Why was Posie no platformed?

BeyondSceptical · 30/05/2018 12:28

CosmicCanary · 30/05/2018 12:29

I saw that tweet and frankly on some level I agree with her.
She was not asking for a transman sterilization prgromme Hmm

But she was highlighting the question why would somebody who calls themself a man, has their breasts removed, takes testosterone and states they are male/men do the most female thing possible of becoming pregnant and birthing their child?

I do not agree with WPUK on this and feel if they wanted to challenge Posie then they should have allwoed her the platform they offered.

BlytheByName · 30/05/2018 12:30

I read on twitter it was connected to views on religion that WPUK do not want to be associated with.

Elendon · 30/05/2018 12:31

Parker's views 'on race and religion' got her no platformed.

BeyondSceptical · 30/05/2018 12:31

"we are fighting for women, whatever personal choices they make"

Unless they make the personal choice to consider mainstream patriarchal religions as a bit off.

WhatTheWaterShowedMe · 30/05/2018 12:32

@CosmicCanary

That may well be what she meant, but that isn't how it's going to come across from that one tweet, which will be wildly screencapped and retweeted the world over. She could have phrased it better.

BeyondSceptical · 30/05/2018 12:33

That tweet was part of a conversation, not on its own

MillyTheKid · 30/05/2018 12:33

This is the thread deletion message:

That's frankly a nonsense. If threads advertising meetings etc are tolerated then how is something relating to a prominent speaker not attending under controversial circumstances not relevant?

DJLippy · 30/05/2018 12:34

I just think her tweets are incredibly ill timed. There is real momentum this week with the Hampstead Heath/Twitter ban stories gaining ground there is a real opportunity to turn the narrative around. Then one of the most publicly prominent campaigners posts such a vicious message at just this time. Now the story will be - Posie Parker hate speech, Posie Parker no-platfomormed for Hate speech, Posie Parker. Am I spotting a pattern here?

Elendon · 30/05/2018 12:34

Perhaps you can suggest how it could be 'rephrased better' ? WhatTheWaterShowedMe

BeyondSceptical · 30/05/2018 12:35

I will say what I said on the last thread, this all would have been much better being sorted in private. Infighting is no less of an own goal than a controversial viewpoint.

therealposieparker · 30/05/2018 12:35

Hi I did ask for the defamatory statement to be removed. I don't want it repeated anywhere that people that invited me to speak then implied I am racist. I didn't however, ask for the thread to be removed and I was pleased of the support.

The eugenics issue I have explained, I wasn't really seeing it as eugenics but more that if you choose not to be a woman you shouldn't\t bring a child into this world without the existence of a mother. Obviously I don't advocate forced sterilisation.

Overwhelming I am pretty upset and frankly disgusted with the terrible actions of WUKip.

DJLippy · 30/05/2018 12:35

Are Posies pro-nouns me, me, me?

AClearShotOfTheStreet · 30/05/2018 12:35

I felt it was a bit wishy washy/unfair.... if you are disassociating yourself from someone then statements like "because of their views on race and religion" just feels a bit unsubstantiated and gives the accused little chance to respond. And of course then everyone reading immediately gasps and Posie is now labelled a racist.

Really, if you are going to disassociate with someone publically based on specific things they have written, you should reference those things.
