A letter to a female transactivist

Just saw this on Twitter. Brilliant

"A man is not a woman. There’s no medical procedure that can change sex in humans or any other mammal. When you fight for the right of men to call themselves “women” and enter woman-only spaces on the basis of their say so, you are doing what Men’s Rights Activists have always done. You are violating women’s boundaries for personal gain. You are allowing men to colonise women’s spaces. You are creating a climate of fear where women and girls will start to withdraw from public life, because all semblance of safety – access to sex seggregated spaces when they are vulnerable – will be destroyed. Your activism is not feminism, it’s at best a misguided naiveté, and at worst opportunism to get ahead while throwing other women under the bus. And by the time you realise how foolish you’ve been, because you are “just” a woman in those men’s eyes, it’ll be too late. The way entitled men disrespect women, the way they mow women down, the way they put their own needs, feelings and wants before women’s lives and livelihoods, they’ll do the same to you when you’re no longer useful to them."

thebewilderness · 29/05/2018 21:59

If your world view is that women are a series of stereotype made up of fashion statements feminism might not be the place to find like minded people, you are certainly right about that.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 29/05/2018 22:00

Star wars over star trek (though the new ones are good)

Disappointed by the last jedi, it wasnt as good as the force awakens

Anushkashsmum · 29/05/2018 22:01

Rufustheyawning...
Haha... I didn't realise what my name shortened was lol.. I need to change my 🙀... Or her name.. I'm new on here and seem to have caused problems on my first day.. Sorry if I've offend or hurt anyone.. Definitely not intentional 💭💭 I'll engage my brain first if I'm on here again... But I still love pink 💄 lipstick!

AngryAttackKittens · 29/05/2018 22:02

Even in the first one though there was no excuse for "veggiesaurus", that was classic Spielberg being cutesy for no good reason.

thebewilderness · 29/05/2018 22:02

More rampaging Trex and less annoying people, please.

YES!
We go for the dinos and they give us creepy d00dz sharing notes from their boners and faux romance.
Give us the velociraptors right this minute.

AngryAttackKittens · 29/05/2018 22:04

Also more pterodactyls.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 29/05/2018 22:07

Velociraptors are my favourite

Though i do have a soft spot for a T-Rex

Thanks for being understanding anushka i nearly had kittens when i saw it

ReluctantCamper · 29/05/2018 22:09

I feel I am missing out on dino goodness. ds 1 is 7, are these films going to scare the bejesus out of him or could they offer some mother and son bonding?

Oh and rufus, I might let you have han solo if I can have my own space ship and indiana jones to co-pilot - what do you think?

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 29/05/2018 22:12

What ????

No!!!

You can have a space ship

(That reminds me of an argument a few small boys had when i was a dinner lady)

Depends on your 7 year old. No way would ds1 watch but ds2 would Grin

AngryAttackKittens · 29/05/2018 22:14

Wait, Rufus, what did you write then panic and delete? I can't see any way to make Anushka's name obscene.

I think the dinos might scare some 7 year olds but it depends, tiny me would have loved them!

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 29/05/2018 22:16

Ive pmed you angry

thebewilderness · 29/05/2018 22:18

Did you call her anassmum with your tiny hooves?

FermatsTheorem · 29/05/2018 22:24

Rufus it's gonna have to be handbags at dawn - Han has been mine since I saw the first Star Wars film when it was released (yes, I realised he was the one to watch during what later became ANH).

Boooosh....

Oops, I shot first.

[Gives Rufus a hand up because fortunately it was only a handbag, not a blaster]

To digress for a moment... or perhaps, "digress even further", have you seen the latest film yet?

AngryAttackKittens · 29/05/2018 22:26

I will graciously abstain from the Han Solo wars on account of not my type (heresy?).

Would quite like my own pet wookie though.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 29/05/2018 22:27

Ive pmed you thebewilderness

ReluctantCamper · 29/05/2018 22:28

solo a star wars story? I'm really not sure about anyone other than harrison ford being han solo.

also I have tiny children and no baby sitter so we have to wait until movies are available to stream.

I'll be wanting to talk about it in around 6 months.

ds1 was terrified by the monster in frozen, so maybe a couple more years before we venture into dino territory!

AngryAttackKittens · 29/05/2018 22:32

What are all these franchises going to do when Ford passes away? They had him in the new Bladerunner too (which I wasn't planning to see till it's on Netflix because the reviews were dire).

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 29/05/2018 22:35

fermats

I saw him when it was first released as well Hmm i am that old

Do you mean the Solo one

Not yet, saw the latest marvel one...it gets expensive as we took ds1 boyfriend and it was only in 3d, it cost £85!!!!. And we treated them to lunch in an (what turned out to be) expensive restaurant

Still eating baked beans Grin can't afford the toast

FermatsTheorem · 29/05/2018 22:35

"What are all these franchises going to do when Ford passes away?"

MAJOR SPOILER ALERT - albeit for a film that came out a couple of years back, so I'm sure anyone who cares will already have seen it... I'm pretty sure that's why Disney's writers took the decision to bump Han Solo off in The Force Awakens. (Sadly, they couldn't foresee that it was actually Carrie Fisher who was about to have a heart attack).

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 29/05/2018 22:36

And what reluctant said

Im really gonna struggle without harrison ford

FermatsTheorem · 29/05/2018 22:39

Cross post with Rufus - oof, that is expensive. Fortunately (a) I only have DS to take and (b) as well as being splendidly GC, part of the Times' deal on subscriptions is two-for-one at the local cinema. "Solo" was okay (having adjusted oneself to the absence of HF) - wass-is-name made a decent fist of imitating Ford (still not the real thing, obviously, but not bad), and some of the supporting cast were excellent, particularly Lando, and L3 the droid (yay, a female droid - a very, very funny female droid...)

We must indeed be about the same age.

Anushkashsmum · 29/05/2018 22:40

Angryattackskittens.... I like Goth make up and clothes, esp Steam Punk.. and what am I right about??? Rufus.. you're colour scheme sounds... colourful ! which is good.... I'm predictable... all white bedroom, pinkish living room...got to keep to the stereotype Reluctant camper :-)

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 29/05/2018 22:42

Dh has asked 'what about chewy'

Lando looks fiiiinnnneeee...

Whats he been in before, im sure i recognise him

The expense was the 3d i think...it seems much cheaper in 2d. But they only do the 3d for some films, and god the seats are worth it!!!

ReluctantCamper · 29/05/2018 22:43

I must say that worryingly, despite the character being a total nutcase, and the actor being young enough to be my son, I have not really known peace since kylo ren removed his mask in the the force awakens.

it's occurred to me as well that some of the strange faces he pulls are him trying to look like harrison ford.

and Fermat, I hadn't thought of that reason for bumping HS off. crikey - that's cold!
