Lily Madigan - to celebrate 300 women leaving LP with a party

LaSqrrl · 13/05/2018 00:49

The facebook event now seems removed, but Feminist Current does have the screenshot before it disappeared.

Constituency Labour Party Women’s Officer for Rochester and Strood, Lily Madigan, a trans-identified male, plans to host a party to celebrate women leaving the Labour Party in protest of Labour’s policy allowing men to self-identify their way onto all women candidate shortlists.

(Sorry if this one has been posted before, I looked, but could not see a matching thread)

I am posting this to illustrate that TRAs do not want to join 'Class Woman', but to take over 'Class Woman' and throw out the existing inhabitants, then celebrate their victory over women (eg 'enjoy your erasure'). This is why 'we cannot get along' and have zero in common with them.

Really can't understand why Labour is letting this go on so long. Even a quiet word telling LM to step down for 'personal reasons' or something.

loveyouradvice · 13/05/2018 03:19

really great you posted... did see it mentioned on another thread here but no harm in doing again... seriously unbelievable that labour havent harnessed LM ....

'They didn't belong here anyway' tells you everything you need to know. Unbearable that Labour supports such blatant misogyny and the eradication of women's rights.

Springnowplease · 13/05/2018 06:58

Labour should be ashamed of itself.

ElizaDontlittle · 13/05/2018 06:59

It's heartbreaking and infuriating and... I am running out words for the feelings about Labour, on this front. This aside I believe in the party and have made it my political home for years, was on the doorstep from primary school with my parents. But this is huge and LM is becoming the catalyst for damage - they aren't solely responsible, the rot is wider and deeper than that, but certainly in terms of visibility they stir up so much bad feeling.

AngryAttackKittens · 13/05/2018 07:04

Even if you agreed with Madigan's politics surely there are some sort of party standards as far as how they want people affiliated with them behaving on social media. Madigan is a PR disaster waiting to happen.

PoulaFisch · 13/05/2018 07:05

As a life long Labour voter I don't understand why they have done this. Why not have LM as an LGBT or T rep or trans youth or something? It's just kicked up a fuss unnecessarily. Corbyn dropped the ball on this one. Despite the obvious, LM is only 19 and should be learning or working

AngryAttackKittens · 13/05/2018 07:11

Maybe it's a sign of being middle aged that I mostly think Lily should be grounded for a few months and set to doing chores until a bit of "oh hey maybe I'm not the most important person in the world after all" sinks in.

Agree completely.

I don't understand why Labour have let this issue run and run... it is causing such damage and making previously committed Labour activists and voters [such as myself] contemplate whether they can continue to support a party which seems to hold the female sex in such contempt.

MaisyPops · 13/05/2018 07:22

Aside from obvious issues, it seems a poor election campaign really.

% of UK residents who are women
% of UK reisdents who are trans
% of UK residents who are radical TRAs and hate women asking questions

The 3rd group is tiny. So why are they able to claim they speak for all trans people (when they don't) and try to silence women?

When you think how much election campaigning goes towards the pensioner vote or the student vote, it seems nonsensical to me to have such a stance towards women who are 50% (or thereabouts) of the electorate.

ElizaDontlittle · 13/05/2018 07:28

Agreed kittens this is not going to end well for Labour. If the antisemitism can finally be put to bed this is ready to blow up and take its place.
As we've said before is a pawn in others' games even though they believe they are independently successful.

blinkowl · 13/05/2018 08:29

Has anyone complained to Labour about it? Should we complain locally or nationally?

TerfsUp · 13/05/2018 08:31

IIRC, LM has ambitions to be the UK's first trans MP. Should LM actually run for election LM will claim, of course, that the various tweets and screenshots claiming schizophrenia, autism, misogyny etc were just the product of youthful indiscretion and / or due to their alleged disability / mental health issue.

This reminds me of the trolling comments you get under any article on sexism which think they are scoring points but which usually justify why there was a need for said article in the first place.

troodiedoo · 13/05/2018 08:40

Oh Jeremy Corbyn :( just why!

AngryAttackKittens · 13/05/2018 08:41

Does LM understand that twitter likes don't count as votes for election purposes?

GenderApostate · 13/05/2018 08:49

Nearly as horrible as the lovely person who has commented on Lily’s page that Venice Allen and all other GC Women are ‘Untermensch’ . The comment has stood for over a week.

They really are vile, or clueless and uneducated, or both.

LaSqrrl · 13/05/2018 08:53

Why not have LM as an LGBT or T rep or trans youth or something?
Exactly, Poula.
But this is a reflection of trans politics generally. They don't want their own places and spaces - they want women's places and spaces.

So is the event still going ahead? This is politics of the playground.

LaSqrrl · 13/05/2018 12:57

One assumes the par-tay will go ahead, just the facebook notification taken down. How on earth could a 19yo give up the chance to host a party?

OP posts:
Cunstancemarkiewicz · 13/05/2018 15:35

@genderapostate that's all the more horrific when you consider that Venice is of Jewish heritage. Angry

noeffingidea · 13/05/2018 15:47

Oooh, party! Do you think there will be cheese and pineapple cubes on cocktail sticks?
