"The slogan ‘Trans women are women’ is a lie. This is my sincerely held belief."

Interesting speech here by Brendan O'Neill

Interesting read. Going by the trajectory of this thread it's really rattled some cages.

Ereshkigal · 11/05/2018 08:05

Maybe it’s just me but I wouldn’t e.g. start a thread praising a video about transgender medicine from a known homophobic group and say stuff like ‘I might share this on Facebook’.

That was a troll. No one in FWR started the thread. As repeatedly pointed out however, watching a video is not endorsing the people who made it, and I don't recall anyone saying that they would share it on Facebook. It did offer a unique perspective from someone who was once part of the transgender medical community. I can see why people are keen to discredit it.

Ereshkigal · 11/05/2018 08:06

Maybe but not if you want to keep your integrity

You worry about your integrity and I'll worry about mine.

It's a shame no left wing men are brave enough to stand up for freedom of speech and women's rights. But they all seem to be worshiping at the alter of the men in dresses and harassing actual women. Sad state of affairs.

This is the problem here.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/05/2018 08:13

It's getting a bit off topic, and perhaps a discussion in its own right, but I started wondering whether sex mattered in organ transplantation. The answer may be 'yes, but needs more research'. The other issue which came up in my search was the gender imbalance between donors and recipients. I'm using 'sex' and 'gender' deliberately, as does this review www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4964018/ which discusses both aspects, and is (in addition to the science) an example of how to use rather than abuse and conflate the two terms.

That paper is really interesting Errol.

Ekphrasis · 11/05/2018 08:20

So I did t read the article but I read @TheUterati's posts and then Widowwadman and Supermatchgame's posts and I have to say that in the past I've felt a little uncomfortable saying what Uterati says out loud. Once I would have agreed with widow.

However, uterati's post, aligned next to those two made me say out loud "well duh obviously".

So thanks for the help there widow and super.

And uterarti.

(I'm probably extra grumpy as I'm about to expel a baby from my over stretched womb. But it kinda has an extra peaking effect.)

Ekphrasis · 11/05/2018 08:21

And no I didn't rtft, didn't really need to past those few posts.

IIIustriousIyIllogical · 11/05/2018 08:22

That was a great article.

I can agree with Brendan on this one point, whilst still not agreeing with his other views - it's what grown ups do.

Springnowplease · 11/05/2018 08:31

Really, I'm the bad guy here? For accepting everyone no matter who they want to be?

You can accept whoever you like but don't make the mistake of thinking that you as a bad "guy" speak for all women.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/05/2018 08:37

It can be hard to tell left wing and right wing men apart. I didn't know who Brendan O’Neill was. According to wiki 'O'Neill considers himself part of the left,'. Or someone like rod Liddell, who I was surprised to learn left the Labour Party because of its antisemitism. He's another commentator who I agree with on some issues, certainly not all. (Heck, I even agree with Melanie Phillips once in a while).

Anyway, reductio ad hitlerium is a tedious logical fallacy.

TerfsUp · 11/05/2018 08:48

Men cannot have uterus transplants as a transplant replaces something that previously existed, eg hearts, kidneys, corneas. If you insert that did not previously exist it is an implant.

And transwomen are transwomen - not women.

IIIustriousIyIllogical · 11/05/2018 08:50

It can be hard to tell left wing and right wing people apart.

There, fixed that for you.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 11/05/2018 08:58

I dont think youve fixed it at all

Article was written by a right wing man

Comparison was being made with right wing men and left wing men

Theinconstantgardener · 11/05/2018 09:02

snail
There is no such thing as birth gender

ErrolTheDragon · 11/05/2018 09:15

Yeah, but absolutely fair enough it may apply to r/l women too.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 11/05/2018 09:38

Just about everything applies to both

bd67th · 11/05/2018 09:47

@supermatchgame Gender dysphoria is a diagnosable and treatable medical condition.

Tell that to the kids with banners that state "identity not illness". Tell that to the current PM, who said "being trans is not an illness". Simply acknowledging that GD is an illness makes you a transphobe in the eyes of the trans umbrella ideology extremists.

Brendan O'Neill is a horrible little turd of a rape apologist, but if he said he was partial to oxygen I wouldn't stop breathing. Even a stopped clock is right twice per day.

Pratchet · 11/05/2018 10:17

Transgender ideology does not believe gender is innate, it believes gender identity is immutable and not chosen, and develops as a result of genetic, biological, social and environmental factors. doesn't make sense

Pratchet · 11/05/2018 10:20

Maybe supermatch thinks all vegetarians need to publicly condemn Hitler before eating a mushroom risotto

TerfAndSerf · 11/05/2018 10:31

I follow Sahila Changebringer on Facebook.

I think this sums it up well

The slogan ‘Trans women are women’ is a lie. This is my sincerely held belief.
nauticant · 11/05/2018 10:32

I sometimes wonder that there must be people out there who, if Trump were to condemn paedophilia, would shift their view to start supporting it.

TerfAndSerf · 11/05/2018 10:33

www.livescience.com/60702-blood-transfusions-women-men.html

Any transplanted wombs would have to be from virgins.....Hmm

Pratchet · 11/05/2018 11:24

Nauticant, in addition to those sexual 'don't be a prude' enthusiasts who want porn shown to primary school children, consent ages fudged, and who think Lactacia represents a move forward?
