Ive done a little browsing in the feminism section and i admit its intriguing, please forgive my ignorance as i dont know alot about this all.

I just want to start by saying i was raised to respect everyone and i truly do, my view on equality is simply if some one, man or woman is good enough to do the specific job they aspire for then they have every right to get said job/goal, again if this is slight ignorance forgive me, i post this topic because i would like to learn and be less ignorant, love me some knowledge.. :)

So i suppose my question is broad and depends on the individual person's view, but what is the over reaching/ultimate goal of feminism ? or what does it mean to you personally ? and please, dont think im trolling or anything i genuinely want to learn a thing or two, thanks :)

I think posters like leggere are like sort of Dementors of the FWR section - sucking all the joy out of intelligent deer-related debate.

I think your assessment is correct. This particular hectorer, hectorist, congratulated themselves on their hectoring success a few pages back, so we should prolly accept that they are indeed here to hector.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 04/05/2018 21:26

Yeah like pimp my ride

thebewilderness · 04/05/2018 21:27

i know what a pimp is but at my age i would use the word pimp in meaning of flashing up an object
That is because you are a man, not because of your age.

PleaseCustomizeCharacter · 04/05/2018 21:27

I feel more comfortable with people who are older than me, i wont say im mature by any standard but at 25 i dont like the way my age group is therefore i like conversation with older men and women, plus the fact of life stories and experience coupled with my lonmging to learn things i dont know, i looooooove knowledge lol..

Old men enjoy watching women's faces when they use the term pimp to remind women that they view us as things.

PleaseCustomizeCharacter · 04/05/2018 21:31

thebewilderness perhaps, but if i modify a car for example, my age being 25 and group being maybe 20 - 30 pimp would be the go-to word whereas maybe some who's 50 would simply say modify maybe, theres ways to go about things in all matters and as said good or bad im a people pleaser and want to make people happy so ill adapt, culture and teaching comes into it i think personally.

WARNING: SUBVERSIVE COMMENT COMING UP

I like the use of 'guys' as a generic, casual address to a group of whoever, but I also have short hair, wear dresses rarely, makeup even more rarely and by definition should really be at least a lesbian, if not trans, but, alas am a woman.

Now, see, if feminism ran the world, none of the above would be any kind of issue and would not deserve mention.

I hate the expression 'pimp my anything' - really?! How does tuning a car or prettifying anything compare to controlling women who sell sex for money?! Hideous phrase.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 04/05/2018 21:32

I always say jazz it up

Or maybe funk it up if i am feeling particularly hip and trendy Grin

Or jhooz it up...ive no idea where that one came from...I'm betting I haven't spelt it right

PerfectlyDone · 04/05/2018 21:32

Ha!
Wonderful cross-post, Please Grin

You do understand that words have meaning, and while every living language does change, certain connotations deserve at least being aware of or comment.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 04/05/2018 21:32

I think “hard on” was inappropriate to be honest. You cannot use that and childbirth in the same analogy. A kick in the balls would be more appropriate. That seems a little today, even to me.

PerfectlyDone · 04/05/2018 21:33

I say 'improve'

Grin
PleaseCustomizeCharacter · 04/05/2018 21:33

PerfectlyDone i dont pretend to know why the word "pimp" was used, i suppose it could of been called anything but like i say depending on age range i think it just becomes a norm to use it.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 04/05/2018 21:35

Goady* not today.

Me too.
I started using guys as a generic term in the eighties but subsequently shifted to people or peeps because of the way all groups are assumed to be made up of males unless non-males are designated as included. Out of interest that gender advocates are trying to shift the language to erase half the population I resist.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 04/05/2018 21:35

quack yeah i thought so too

Which is why i was going to run away from the thread

ToeToToe · 04/05/2018 21:36

Hate the term "pimp my..."

Also "...porn" - like "property porn"

Just normalises this stuff.

Until we get the stage we are today with Dr Christian suggesting porn in schools for sex education. Last I heard, hey were trying to keep porn out of schools Hmm

PleaseCustomizeCharacter · 04/05/2018 21:36

PerfectlyDone compared to what women do, periods and pregnancy, i dont really know what a male comparison could be and right there is i suppose men have it easier, i wont ever bleed monthly or have the pain of child birth, i use hard-on simply because women, wont get a hard-on lol.

He is typing one handed, isn't he?

PerfectlyDone · 04/05/2018 21:38

Oh, I hate 'peeps' for being to twee, but do take your point about 'guys' Smile

I know 'pimping' as assumed the meaning of 'doing up' etc but that does not in my eyes make it any less distasteful tbh even though I am quite sure I will have used it, I think being aware of where words come from is important

I love language. I think it is fascinating how it evolves, but word that change meaning usually do for a reason.

PerfectlyDone · 04/05/2018 21:39

WTF? Really? Porn in schools?
I've do imagine I've heard it all now... FFS.

PleaseCustomizeCharacter · 04/05/2018 21:42

I dont know how it is know but my sex education was simply like men and women make children, i have seen and read issues for that in terms of what about homosexual and lesbian sex ? that isnt covered for youth questioning/knowing their sexuality.

with however many sexualities and genders whatever that keep getting produced, sex education in school must be hell.

OP posts:
PerfectlyDone · 04/05/2018 21:46

Teaching children about the mechanics of sex is the easy bit - it's navigating relationships in all their messy gloriousness is much, much harder.

I do not think that schools have to teach, dunno, technique.
IME while every generation thinks that they have invented sex, they all tend to figure it out quite nicely.

PleaseCustomizeCharacter · 04/05/2018 21:46

^
a discussion for a different topic, i like many of you ive seen, dont like being called "cis" and while i admit to wanting to make people happy, im not going to use terms made up to satisfy a minor minor group, blame it on my upbringing if anything but thats how it is....

PleaseCustomizeCharacter · 04/05/2018 21:50

PerfectlyDone in some ways i think were doing ok sex education/sex wise, women dont have to "lie back and think of england" they can enjoy the act without guilt now and i think its good, if a woman wants to do more than missionary and simply just reproduce, cool in a good relationship i think its good to experiment and try things youve not done.

bewilderness, I wasn't the only one challenging your (and others) attitude towards the newbie. That's not hectoring, that's different opinions. I'm still not sure whether you are a man trying to cause friction and this uncertainty continues when you say other people disagreeing are hectoring. I am holding out the olive branch (whether you are male or female) and I have changed my method of swearing to match yours, which was pretty decent of me, I thought? Truce? Agree to disagree?
