Ive done a little browsing in the feminism section and i admit its intriguing, please forgive my ignorance as i dont know alot about this all.

I just want to start by saying i was raised to respect everyone and i truly do, my view on equality is simply if some one, man or woman is good enough to do the specific job they aspire for then they have every right to get said job/goal, again if this is slight ignorance forgive me, i post this topic because i would like to learn and be less ignorant, love me some knowledge.. :)

So i suppose my question is broad and depends on the individual person's view, but what is the over reaching/ultimate goal of feminism ? or what does it mean to you personally ? and please, dont think im trolling or anything i genuinely want to learn a thing or two, thanks :)

OP, when I first saw your OP yesterday, I thought it said "Hi, all male here", I was ready to explode until I read it properly. Grin

leggere · 04/05/2018 20:22

Sorry, I meant "Hello, all man here"

thebewilderness · 04/05/2018 20:24

I am devastated that I transaged you, Rufus. Deepest apologies.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 04/05/2018 20:25

Young reindeer are called calves

Fun fact for today

thebewilderness · 04/05/2018 20:25

leggere

Eff off.

There is that unreliable interwebs for you. It just told me they were fawns.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 04/05/2018 20:30

As in, they're not referred to as bucks, does and fawns, like other deer. Rather, male reindeer are called bulls, females are called cows and babies are called calves

MillicentF I completely understand what you mean, I was just answering truthfully. You have really enlightened me though and I shall start calling myself a feminist and proudly, now I know I don’t need to agree with everything but most things I do and I know we all want the same respect and equality for women as eachother.

leggere · 04/05/2018 20:36

Bewilderness, hope this isn't a case of "being able to dish it out, but not take it back"?

ToeToToe · 04/05/2018 20:37

I think posters like leggere are like sort of Dementors of the FWR section - sucking all the joy out of intelligent deer-related debate .

leggere · 04/05/2018 20:41

No, Toe, I'm not having that! That's a step too far! Putting my olive branch back on the tree now (or is it olive bush)?

ToeToToe · 04/05/2018 20:47

Bush. We're feminists here Grin

leggere · 04/05/2018 21:01

ToeToToe · 04/05/2018 21:02

I wouldnt call myself a feminist simply being as a man, yes i cant know or understand the potential abuse women can get. but speaking just for myself, learning what is considered abuse can help me avoid using certain phrases in conversation.

they say a people pleaser can be bad, sure. but i want to make people happy personally..

For example, i would call a large mixed-sex group "guys" in convosation, in maybe ignorance but lazily easier than saying "hey men and women" but if that is an actual offence then ill train myself to use more general terms, like i say, i struggle with my health and feelings, i dont want to put that on anyone else, hopeful optimism makes me want to make people happy.

I may not post often here at first due to lack of understanding of the subject in hand, but i will in no way post this discussion on twitter or whatever for posts, likes and self-gratification.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 04/05/2018 21:17

PleaseCustomizeCharacter In regards to using guys as a word for all in a large group, I’m ok with that as many others are I’m sure. To me it’s more a universal word now rather than just for men. I wonder how else to talk to a group of people when mixed?

PleaseCustomizeCharacter · 04/05/2018 21:17

Im sure its probably been said before here or elsewhere, the opposite sex may not understand each other fully ever, ill never know what carrying a child is, and youll never understand a hard-on, idk but i want to better myself maybe, i dont know how to put it.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 04/05/2018 21:19

Hi everyone?

Rather than hi guys

How are you all doing rather than how are you guys doing

I appreciate that language changes and different ages do different things

But ive managed to avoid calling everyone guys up til now...just cos i is old Smile

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 04/05/2018 21:20

Im just going to ignore that last post and sidle out of the thread

PleaseCustomizeCharacter · 04/05/2018 21:20

QuackPorridgeBacon apologies for the many consectutive posts indeed, through lurking i have seen one or two comments saying some take offense to it as guys does technically stand for men, obviously individual opinions matter but if a larger consensus took offense to it i would take note.

OP posts:
PleaseCustomizeCharacter · 04/05/2018 21:22

Rufustheyawningreindeer yes, to me "guys" is just a general saying but like thge example youve provided there other ways of wording it and thats what i mean, even if a small change like saying everybody instead of guys help then ill try to adapt my speech.

OP posts:
PleaseCustomizeCharacter · 04/05/2018 21:24

I wont assume ages, theres an obvious generational change between word use through the age groups, i read one post about the use of "pimp" yes, i know what a pimp is but at my age i would use the word pimp in meaning of flashing up an object
