“Incel”

Just come across this horrific phrase in the context of the Canadian attacks. I’ve always thought I was relatively aware but this completely passed me by.

Does anyone have any background resources they can share on the phrase/“movement”? Not sure I can face some of the murkier sites my first searches found.

I don't think it's a huge movement, more a niche of (young) angry men who've found a community of others who are similarly lonely and lacking in social skills. I've noticed a few incel/red pill boards on Reddit. It's probably brewed on there and 4chan. It is of course ridiculous but generally they clearly appear to be bonkers so not taken seriously by anyone other than their own community.

On Reddit the incel community was closed down. It was awful.

There is a long history in the MRA blogs, like A Voice For Men, of involuntarily celibate men wanting women provided for their use. They call themselves incel and suffer from aggrieved entitlement.
E Rogers is a perfect example because he never made any effort to meet women. He wanted them to come to him and offer themselves. When they did not he decided to punish them by murdering them.

Yes a lot of them are very tech savvy, like TRAs. There are parallels and overlaps between them IME. But I wouldn't underestimate the hatred these young men have for women, or their sense of rage and entitlement.

I've spent a fair bit of time reading one of their forums since they were banned from Reddit. Not nice or happy people.

They are angry, mostly young, men who can "get" a woman to have sex with them so they often feel like women should be distributed evenly among men so every man can have a hole to stick his penis into.

They are often racist and advocate rape, acid attacks, mass shootings, suicide etc.

I believe we have had one of them visiting of an evening over the weekend.

She looked when I said these things were pretty much always male violence. Entitled, male violence.

I wouldn't underestimate the hatred these young men have for women, or their sense of rage and entitlement.

Any laws or policies that allow men to use female sleeping spaces, changing rooms, loos etc need to have safeguarding in place to protect women and girls from men like this abusing the system.

The Sunday Times magazine had a long article about incels about a year ago. Absolutely revolting young men.

There was a particular "incel" who called himself GGG (Government Gets Girlfriends) who you could look up if you feel like a bit of rage would improve your day. He begged the following people to have sex with him - a police offer who was arresting him, a judge, his mother.

I say "begged", but it was more like "threatened to kill himself and/or others if they didn't". Apparently his parents were "abusing" him by not providing him with a girlfriend.

There are still incel communities on reddit.

Also sub groups for different types of incels.

So smart incels are known as braincels.
Asian descent incels are known as currycels. (You couldnt make it up.)

It is disgusting. Some of these are mere boys- inciting misogynist hatred , incest and rape fantasies in order to assert how they feel they should be treated.

Everyone should read it. It's important that you know that this is out there.

They're not entirely gone from reddit - via another route I ended up on the braincel sub reddit - just reading the side bar made it clear these are wronguns - reading the posts though - Jesus Christ..

The sense of entitlement some males have is breath taking, and terrifying. In recent years both a close female friend in her 40's and a young female relative of mine in her 20's were drugged and raped, within a fortnight of each other.

Both were out on dates and had gone home with the men with the purpose of having consensual sex. Despite this both men decided to drug them and rape them whilst they were unconscious. WTF goes on in some mens heads that they hate women so much they must do such vile things?

It's utterly chilling.

I can't cope with knowing about these men.
