Just wanted to see who is going to this, and let Mumsnetters know it is happening if you didn't already. It's going to be a great meeting I think - with a choir singing too!

Is that the big tall one in a cross shaped building? I used to stay there when visiting Cardiff. Obviously won't be going there again.

Kneedeepinunicorns · 12/04/2018 18:57

Has anyone on Twitter got a screenshot of the original tweet? Can anyone share with the Guardian and Times journalists?

Not pleased that the Wales Online article doesn't mention the meeting is actually about the impact of self ID on women and girls instead of implying they just randomly and meanly don't want trans people to have it. That bit never gets mentioned.

Cardiff hotel refuses to hold campaign group's event because of 'bigotry'

Is that Barbara Streisand singing in the background?

R0wantrees · 12/04/2018 19:05

its screenshotted and on a current thread from the hotel's twitter account @MercureCardifHH

Abuse, victimisation and hate crime against trans people is on the increase. Much of this is down to misinformation and hate speech spread by a vocal minority of anti-trans campaigners who have gained a great deal of attention in the media and online. The hate campaigns are coming to Wales threatening to create a more hostile and abusive environment for trans people.

– PRIDE CYMRU AND WALES EQUALITY ALLIANCE

So women and transwomen speaking about women and girls rights are threatening?

Women and girls are to be excluded from discussing their own equality?

Women speaking about women and girls rights is hate speech?
I am confused? Equality no longer includes women? Is that why we have a gender pay gap?

CisMyArse · 12/04/2018 19:31

Beautiful singing from the mixed choir.

crispbuttyfan · 12/04/2018 19:33

Trans rights discussions are not, trans women VS cis women and girls.

They are trans AND cis women and girls VS people who have either fallen for, or deliberately spread lies, hate and misinformation.

QueenOfQuacks · 12/04/2018 19:36

The choir were fabulous!!

TheMostBeautifulDogInTheWorld · 12/04/2018 19:39

They are trans AND cis women and girls VS people who have either fallen for, or deliberately spread lies, hate and misinformation.

This is exactly, but EXACTLY what WPUK meetings have consisted of. Women and girls and trans people coming together to discuss how to organise against lies, hate and misinformation.

Beyond11cisRetinol · 12/04/2018 19:40

I’m here Smile

Melamin · 12/04/2018 19:40

The choir were fabulous!! Envy

So glad they made it.

Beyond11cisRetinol · 12/04/2018 19:44

They were rather good

AnitaLovesVictor · 12/04/2018 19:51

Trans rights discussions are not, trans women VS cis women and girls.

The meetings are about women's rights and trans women have attended and spoken.

So, you're right - it's absolutely not transwomen VS women and girls.

AnitaLovesVictor · 12/04/2018 19:53

Gutted for you, though, crispbuttyfan. You could hardly contain your glee when the hotel cancelled.

Melamin · 12/04/2018 19:59

Crispbutty was so quick off the mark on that one you would have thought they had inside knowledge.

AnitaLovesVictor · 12/04/2018 20:05

Indeed.

2rebecca · 12/04/2018 20:12

I don't think all this trying to stop women having meeting helps the trans activists.
I thought feminist chat were a bit OTT about trans folk until Venice's meeting at Millwall was cancelled and I heard about their concerted campaign against democracy.
Gender critical women aren't trying to stop people in favour of self ID having meetings. There are lots of political views I disagree with but unless people are campaigning to kill or physically injure people then they have a right to their opinion. That's democracy.
Sometimes democracy ends up with Donald Trump, that doesn't mean no-one should have been able to vote for him and his wall "plans".

Melamin · 12/04/2018 20:16

"There’s no use having a vote if we can’t engage in political debate"

So true. Politicians please listen.

Beyond11cisRetinol · 12/04/2018 20:19

And sex is a thing. Everybody knows this.

Mouthtrousersafrocknowandthen · 12/04/2018 20:27

Crisp, honestly I have met the most amazing and impressive trans people at these meetings who have shared their experience and views openly.

Debbie Hayton, I met her in the pub after a meeting in London, she totally understands the balance of mutual respect, I follow half a dozen transwomen on Twitter who are a joy to listen to.

I have a transwoman friend of 27 years, whose kids went to school with mine, whose art is on my wall. I mean do you think that's hate?

It's so sad you are making this into a zero sum game, winners and losers. That's not the intention. No-one wants a Trump world. We are listening to you, you are being heard. Trans rights are human rights. Badly enacted law helps no-one.

Melamin · 12/04/2018 20:28

"Raquel: we cannot afford to get this wrong. The stakes are too high. We must raise the level of the debate "

What we have been saying on here Grin

OldCrone · 12/04/2018 20:30

There was a piece on the BBC Welsh news this evening about the hotel cancelling the meeting. The reporter gave a reasonable synopsis of what the meeting was about, and there was a short interview with Helen Mary Jones.

So thanks, TRAs for getting Woman's Place UK on the BBC news.

Melamin · 12/04/2018 20:31

Article 11 is about us having agency and autonomy over things that affect us. It gives us a voice

What is this Article 11?

MsMcWoodle · 12/04/2018 20:32

So actually, having the debate moved worked in our favour because it got more publicity. Wine
