Just wanted to see who is going to this, and let Mumsnetters know it is happening if you didn't already. It's going to be a great meeting I think - with a choir singing too!

I'm going with a friend, we're aiming to get to the venue about 6pm ish. So, if anyone sees us (two 60-year-old women, short grey hair, one fat and one thin) please come over and say hello.

QueenOfQuacks · 12/04/2018 13:59

We need a Mumsnet secret handshake Grin

Isn't it weird that we get called transphobes yet it's posters like Crisp who spout the most ignorant, judgemental nonsense.

Melamin · 12/04/2018 14:21

Absolutely. I have only heard of positive messages coming from WPUK meetings. The woman from the fire brigade union was very interesting last time and very good on Radio 4. She speaks well.

crispbuttyfan · 12/04/2018 14:21

I'm only ignorant and judgemental if your invested in bigotry, I never expect anyone in the echo chamber to hold their hands up. I only tried to explain what happened.

crispbuttyfan · 12/04/2018 14:24

For clarity, there are hundreds of meetings by various feminist groups every single year that do not get cancelled.

Literally every one that doesnt involve anti-trans propaganda, does not get cancelled.

The only ones that get cancelled are the ones that do contain anti-trans propaganda, if you can't see that and check yoursleves, then please don't feign injury when it continues to happen.

RochelleGoyle · 12/04/2018 14:25

No, you were ignorant and judgemental because you know nothing about the views, beliefs or experiences of individual posters. Being willing to accuse people of bigotry whilst knowing nothing about them is pretty embarrassing. Call me a bigot if you like. I'm glad to be able to think for myself but sorry women are being called bigots simply because those who seek power are unable to engage with meaningful debate.

NotTerfNorCis · 12/04/2018 14:25

If it hasn't been cancelled, then pretending that it was is spiteful.

cuirderussie · 12/04/2018 14:26

Nonsense, I've been to one and I saw no bigotry, just thoughtful intelligent discussion. There were so many wonderful women there.

Melamin · 12/04/2018 14:28

Nonsense, I've been to one and I saw no bigotry, just thoughtful intelligent discussion. There were so many wonderful women there

That is what I have heard and I am looking forward to going to one when there is one close enough to me.

Melamin · 12/04/2018 14:30

The ones that get cancelled are the ones where the venue has been inundated with phone calls, messages and tweets, a lot of them from multiple messagers, and they cannot cope with the deluge.

AnitaLovesVictor · 12/04/2018 15:01

Statement by Woman's Place:

We are extremely disappointed that @MercureCardiffHH has taken this totally unnecessary action. We absolutely refute the suggestion that WPUK is guilty of any bigotry or hate. This tweet needs to be deleted. The meeting will go ahead at a venue that respects the rights of women.

I must say, this silencing of women's speech is getting out of line. We've gone backwards 100 years. Perhaps we shouldn't be allowed to vote either?

Beyond11cisRetinol · 12/04/2018 15:03

"bigotry"

You spelt biology wrong...

MsMcWoodle · 12/04/2018 15:04

Has it been cancelled? I am hearing that it has on Twitter.

MsMcWoodle · 12/04/2018 15:06

Oh ffs. How are we supposed to accept this? The hatred will never stop.

RochelleGoyle · 12/04/2018 15:08

This silencing of women is about to be enshrined in law. We are cycling backwards at an alarming pace.

NotTerfNorCis · 12/04/2018 15:14

It sounds like they have another venue. Good for them.

Kneedeepinunicorns · 12/04/2018 15:22

I wonder how many phonecalls, emails, pestering and cries of oppression have been piled on to the other parallel events?

I wonder how many of the people attending those events have been punched in the face, or removed from the middle of baying mob for their own safety?

I wonder how many people with placards, hammering on pots and pans and screaming will be outside trying to drown out their voices as they talk?

My money is on none at all. That speaks volumes to anyone with half a brain.

They seem nice people, being herded about by a few middle aged men with AGP.

Well put.

Callmejudith · 12/04/2018 15:31

I've just seen this on Twitter and am shaking with anger. Yet again I wish I was a multi-millionaire or a shit hot barrister. The tweet from the hotel is sexist defamatory BS.

MumOfThrMoos · 12/04/2018 15:37

I'm so upset about this; so much respect for the organisers of WPUK who keep going in the face of such adversity.

Remember, if the TA really thought they had public opinion in the bag they wouldn't need to go so low.

Melamin · 12/04/2018 15:41

#TGLWGH

Aim high, WPUK

QueenOfQuacks · 12/04/2018 15:47

The local TRA types are all planning a counter event (queer poetry slam type thing) at another venue so hopefully no banging of saucepan lids or whatever shite outside. Sigh.

LizzieSiddal · 12/04/2018 15:49

Well, the Trans Activists, managed to get Millwall cancelled, but the fantastic Womens Place then got into the House Of Commons.

We will not be silenced!

InLoveWithDavidTennant · 12/04/2018 15:58

SirVixofVixHall Grin

There's been an update. Still meeting at the original place but will be taken to a different location.

Cant believe this bullshit. We really are going backwards Angry
