Just wanted to see who is going to this, and let Mumsnetters know it is happening if you didn't already. It's going to be a great meeting I think - with a choir singing too!

my initial reaction was to question myself in supporting WPUK. My rational self tells me that I am being gaslighted

Bing this is true for me too.

mamas12 · 11/04/2018 15:14

That's a great idea to offer your ticket to that mp
Extend the invitation to debate, listen to all arguments
I doubt she will take up the offer but do it officially and maybe she could come
Who knows

As expected, more than a few people I know are signed up as either interested or attending the 'support our trans community from hate' rally. Some of them I've known for years, and quite like as individuals. But it's so disappointing that they're unable or unwilling to think critically about what self-ID means for women & girls as a sex-class, and choose instead to interpret those of us wanting to talk about it as 'hating' trans people - that's some strange, circular logic that only works if you concede that those born female have fewer rights to discuss our needs and rights, to preserve our bodily dignity when vulnerable, and be protected from violence than those born male who 'idenify' as women. I find that really alarming, and inevitably think rather less of them as a result.

SirVixofVixHall · 11/04/2018 16:10

Yes @Kalikan . I have been in that position too. Baffles me why anyone would dismiss so many kind, tolerant women as hate filled.

boatyardblues · 11/04/2018 16:36

Which MP is attending? I don’t do Facebook.

boatyardblues · 11/04/2018 16:38

Looking on the bright side, perhaps it will cut down on harrassment outside of the WPUK venue...

SirVixofVixHall · 11/04/2018 17:17

Anna McMorrin. Cardiff North MP.

boatyardblues · 11/04/2018 17:24

Thanks Vix.

CisMyArse · 11/04/2018 22:10

I'm going. Taking a friend's daughter who's interested in gender politics, so I really hope there's no trouble.

Disappointing that it's equated to hate - we just have to stand firm if questioned and pushed about this.

Well done for engaging them!

CisMyArse · 11/04/2018 22:53

Just to be clear as this is my first meeting, do I just wait for an email alert?

Also, I just realised, my friend bought her daughter the ticket so her daughters name isn't on it - what'll happen there?

LightofaSilveryMoon · 11/04/2018 23:10

The fact that the venue cannot be revealed until tomorrow (cf the Millwall cancellation) just shows that feminist women are not the problem here - the problem lies with those who seek to deny women the right to meet and to discuss matters affecting women.
This is an atrocious situation.

LightofaSilveryMoon · 11/04/2018 23:25

Just to add - I am not at all criticising the fact that arrangements have to be kept confidential. I fully understand this a necessity. And it is a necessity (cf the Millwall cancellation).

It's just the fact that, in 2018 FFS, feminist women have to be secretive about meeting with each other in order to discuss the rights of women and girls!

Anyway, if anyone spots me, I will be happy to buy you a drink Smile

SirVixofVixHall · 11/04/2018 23:41

@CisMyArse. I think tickets are non transferable, so perhaps email the organisers with the dds name ?

BingBongSong · 11/04/2018 23:46

Just seen on Twitter that tomorrow's event is sold out!

LightofaSilveryMoon · 11/04/2018 23:57

Yay! Thanks for the information! Very much looking forward to it!

Melamin · 12/04/2018 11:03

Just seen on Twitter that tomorrow's event is sold out!

Yay!!! Looking forward to the updates.

SirVixofVixHall · 12/04/2018 11:04

Sold out . Great! How many people is that I wonder ? I am really looking forward to it but worrying about conflict outside. Then I feel furious that in 2018 a group of largely women can’t meet to discuss a political issue that affects women, without fearing aggression. How has it come to this ? What has happened to this country ?

RochelleGoyle · 12/04/2018 11:34

I feel worried about potential issues outside the venue too. What happened at Hyde Park (and in other places) is disgusting and an ironically typical display of male aggression.

Melamin · 12/04/2018 11:51

I think the organisers are well aware of the Hyde Park incident, and much more besides. Which is why it is all ticket, venue announced late on and there is security. All the WPUK events have been fine so far Smile.

InLoveWithDavidTennant · 12/04/2018 12:11

Im going. Im really looking forward to it Smile

SirVixofVixHall · 12/04/2018 13:04
  • gets distracted by the words David Tennant ....
Trumpdump · 12/04/2018 13:22

I'm not going, but, out of interest, when and how is the location revealed?

(Please don't actually say the location!)

Melamin · 12/04/2018 13:26

You give them all your details and they let you know nearer the time. I don't think it is helpful to go into more detail. It has worked very well so far.
