Transactivists close down clothes swap

I've been organising free clothes swaps in south east London since 2013. Attended mainly, but not exclusively, by women and their children, they are fun events that save money and the environment and strengthen and enrich the community.

The Birds Nest thebirdsnestpub.com/ have hosted many of our swaps in their back room. I am also a regular customer at the pub.

I had planned an event there next Friday 6th April. However, a local transactivist came on to the event page a few days ago and threatened to disrupt it (see attached screenshot).

I asked the managers to have a word with this man (also a regular customer) and to ban him from the event to ensure our safety. However, their response was to immediately cancel our event and to take no action on the man.

I'm extremely upset on a personal level but also furious that men can make violent threats against women, specifically in front of their children, yet simultaneously claim victim status.

This is how transactivism works

I just followed through on the Facebook page of one of the activists

www.facebook.com/itsonlybloodylivwynter?fref=ufi&rc=p

Discussing how they would have a 'ruck' at Millwall.

TERFragetteCity · 01/04/2018 11:01

Yet...

You mean Thuglfyz Nicewife lol.

AngryAttackKittens · 01/04/2018 11:02

I'm baffled by this person.

MsGameandWatching · 01/04/2018 11:03

This is just awful. I'm really shocked. The entitlement and aggression in that message sums up all our fears and I agree this should be moved to AIBU in an attempt to reach the "oh trans threads are so boring and mean" crew. Totally indefensible.

DrRadFem · 01/04/2018 11:07

I have decided that I will call the police and will cancel the swap next week. I have been offered another space but to be quite honest, I really don't want there to be any trouble in front of the children. This Liv character particularly scares me because I don't know her (?) personally (unlike Andi) and she seems intent on violence. It's really sad, but it seems that for the time being someone else needs to organise the swaps in Deptford

With comments like:

"TERFs tryna organise at millwall den?!?!?! maybe my lifelong dream of havin a ruck at the den might come true"

AngryAttackKittens · 01/04/2018 11:13

Trying to kick off at Millwall, if the event had happened, would be a bit Darwin Awards.

Anyone who's actively looking for an opportunity to get into a physical confrontation in front of children is telling us some very important things about them.

CapnHaddock · 01/04/2018 11:14

She's a leading figure in Sisters Uncut. They were the ones that whipped up the planned assault on Maria at HPC.

I think you're being very wise Venice but I'm so sorry you're going through this

TERFragetteCity · 01/04/2018 11:14

I don't blame you Venice. You need to keep yourself safe as well as not allowing this to spill out to kids. Utter vindictive nastiness. Flowers

LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 01/04/2018 11:21

Oh that is really horribly sad.

Glad you are going to the police but it really shouldn't be like this.
This is so so wrong.

yetanothertranswoman Bloody hell! Shock

I'm not sure whether to be pleased they are making themselves so obvious or simply fucking boiling with rage that we are supposedly the violent bad guys and they are lovely fluffy unicorns.

I want every single "woke" fucker to see this.

Even the most innocent and community spirited event is getting shut down by violent selfish men.

Angry
LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 01/04/2018 11:22

This has made me so fucking unbelieveably angry.

AngryAttackKittens · 01/04/2018 11:25

It proves that the goal isn't to "protect" trans people, it's to banish uppity women from public life.

Debinaround · 01/04/2018 11:26

Nasty fuckers. Hope they are proud of themselves. You were doing a lovely thing and they had to spoil it. Thanks for you.

HumphreyCobblers · 01/04/2018 11:33

So sorry you are going through this Venice. This is so shocking.

How dare they? Angry

Threewheeler1 · 01/04/2018 11:35

I think you should report this DrRadFem.
Absolutely unbelievable. The threat is quite clear in that tweet.

trickyboots · 01/04/2018 11:37

Report the threat to the police. Insist you believe the threat (and I believe that is a threat) has been made because you're a woman and that makes it a hate crime. That individual committed the crime by making the threat- it's a hate crime because he's made it because you're a woman.

Let us know what the police say. Don't be put off by the police saying Facebook are crap at responding and just to forget about it.

gingergenius · 01/04/2018 11:43

Its so depressing. Another vote for contacting the police.

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 01/04/2018 11:45

Agree with others that this should be reported to the police as the threat it clearly is.
So sorry you’re going through this, just shocking

Pratchet · 01/04/2018 11:45

Sorry you are going through this, what nasty horrible people. I hope you do report to the police. They think they can get away with anything. And the pub should report also.

Springnowplease · 01/04/2018 11:47

It really is time the police took action against these people.

Winterlight · 01/04/2018 11:50

I am so sorry to read this.
If you require any particular clothes for your next swap then just say as I’m sure that posters on here would love to support your good work.

TERFragetteCity · 01/04/2018 11:57

Does that tattoo on the picture at 9:54 say "Die Cis Scum"?

I suspect it is eyeliner but yes. Yes it does.

Might be magic marker.....

littlevoiceofsanity · 01/04/2018 11:58

Police my lovely. Absolutely. I am so bloody sorry you are going through all this. Hat's off to you for being one of the bravest women in the UK. I think you are fabulous and wish I lived closer so I could run the clothes swap for you. This nightmare will end but you are in the front line.
