I've been organising free clothes swaps in south east London since 2013. Attended mainly, but not exclusively, by women and their children, they are fun events that save money and the environment and strengthen and enrich the community.

The Birds Nest thebirdsnestpub.com/ have hosted many of our swaps in their back room. I am also a regular customer at the pub.

I had planned an event there next Friday 6th April. However, a local transactivist came on to the event page a few days ago and threatened to disrupt it (see attached screenshot).

I asked the managers to have a word with this man (also a regular customer) and to ban him from the event to ensure our safety. However, their response was to immediately cancel our event and to take no action on the man.

I'm extremely upset on a personal level but also furious that men can make violent threats against women, specifically in front of their children, yet simultaneously claim victim status.

This is how transactivism works

Who are "all the dead trans kids?"

dont think i remember reading about any.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 01/04/2018 09:18

You could put this in AIBU, perhaps changing the title to something less likely to put off people "bored with trans threads".

Yep!
“AIBU to think this event shouldn’t be cancelled because of vague threats of suicide?”

MrsUnderwood · 01/04/2018 09:20

I’d call out the pub on Twitter and encourage people to take their business elsewhere if this is how they handle things.

yetanothertranswoman · 01/04/2018 09:21

That's awful - and he and his colleagues don't speak in my name as someone who is trans.

I've read the Facebook page - it's really scary to see how social media can be used to do this. Threatening to give bad reviews of a pub.

It's a clothes swap.

How can you report someone on Facebook for intimidating behaviour?

AngryAttackKittens · 01/04/2018 09:22

Or if we want to play them at their own game "AIBU to think that it's not fair that some kid can't get a new-to-them pair of jeans because someone doesn't like the person organizing the event?"

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 01/04/2018 09:22

Have you got screen shots of those comments with their name captured? Obviously not for public consumption but for your own records.

LangCleg · 01/04/2018 09:24

He's threatening to go to an event and incite other people's children to violent behaviour.

You should report this to the police, Venice.

Reading this shit, I'm glad I'm out of the city and live in the back end of beyond where if someone is doing something nice for other people they get supported, even by those who have diametrically opposed politics.

yetanothertranswoman · 01/04/2018 09:24

It's the first time I've tried to report a Facebook profile

Looks like there's no option for 'intimidating' behaviour. There should be.

He is threatening you and if you don’t want to formally make a complaint, you should at least get it logged with the police, using the non emergency phone line.

OohMavis · 01/04/2018 09:27

I agree, that's a threat. You need to talk to the police.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 01/04/2018 09:28

Please contact the police. Everytime one of these threats is made, pressure should be put on the police and fb/twitter to deal with it.

smashyourglasses · 01/04/2018 09:28

Christ he's a frightener 😨

LangCleg · 01/04/2018 09:28

Venus is not responsible for trans people killing themselves, especially not by organizing something as harmless as a clothes swap. This is just "she's a witch" with a pomo spin.

Yes. And for her next act, Venice will be making the crops fail, the wells dry up and the cows stop giving milk. She's probably got a mark on her left breast that proves it (or something).

FFS.

athingthateveryoneneeds · 01/04/2018 09:29

Vile bullies.

LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 01/04/2018 09:31

Fucking hell.

Their misogyny is showing like a cheap petticoat.

What a nasty, evil thing to do

What the actual fuck is wrong wîth the world where angry men get to shut down the most innocent and helpful of events??

Mummyoflittledragon · 01/04/2018 09:31

Shock. I’m sorry you’re being targeted for doing a good thing. It is disgusting the police don’t seem interested.

LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 01/04/2018 09:33

It'll be checking us for warts and the ducking stool next.

Sad thing is I wish I was joking.

BlackeyedSusan · 01/04/2018 09:33

Police may not do anything this week one but it is useful to have it on record that you have complained. It may be very useful in the future. Reporting may be important for the big picture as well if you can manage.

LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 01/04/2018 09:35

Just when I think I couldn't get any fucking angrier at this shit, some absolute shitty shower comes along and my blood pressure reaches whole new levels.

BlackeyedSusan · 01/04/2018 09:36

This time FFS. Need to remember to check for autocorrects.

Monstamio · 01/04/2018 09:37

"These fucking women. Giving up their spare time to organise community events which benefit people on low and middle incomes. I'll show 'em."
Angrily waves fist.

It's completely deranged.

AngryAttackKittens · 01/04/2018 09:39

It'll be checking us for warts and the ducking stool next.

How many of you have cats? (looks suspicious) Is that just a tabby or is it your demonic familiar?

Presumably they'll let us know who's been elected Witchfinder General soon enough.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 01/04/2018 09:39

"Police may not do anything this week one but it is useful to have it on record that you have complained. It may be very useful in the future. Reporting may be important for the big picture as well if you can manage"

I agree with Susan. Even if the police don't do anything, they are obliged to record it. Which is important if you are being repeatedly targetted Venice

AmygdalaeOnFire · 01/04/2018 09:39

Yetanother it's a good idea to try to report it on FB anyway. At least the "annoying" option might get it looked at?

AmygdalaeOnFire · 01/04/2018 09:40

Also agree about reporting to get it on record.
