Transactivists close down clothes swap

I've been organising free clothes swaps in south east London since 2013. Attended mainly, but not exclusively, by women and their children, they are fun events that save money and the environment and strengthen and enrich the community.

The Birds Nest thebirdsnestpub.com/ have hosted many of our swaps in their back room. I am also a regular customer at the pub.

I had planned an event there next Friday 6th April. However, a local transactivist came on to the event page a few days ago and threatened to disrupt it (see attached screenshot).

I asked the managers to have a word with this man (also a regular customer) and to ban him from the event to ensure our safety. However, their response was to immediately cancel our event and to take no action on the man.

I'm extremely upset on a personal level but also furious that men can make violent threats against women, specifically in front of their children, yet simultaneously claim victim status.

Please do explain to me why someone's political opinions merits threatening them as they go about their everyday business. I'm really fascinated to understand how you could justify this.

This is where this is headed, if you are not careful, and don't get a proper intervention at some point. Maybe not at this incident. But what about the next one? Or the next one?

You can live with this cloud. You are going to tackle it head on at some point. Susan is right in saying that the police might not do anything this time, but you do need to get it on record that you are the target of an orchestraed campaign through social media against you that is leading to threats, stalking, harassment and intimidation.

Really, why? She is not a criminal, the event is nothing sinister. So you are advocating ostracising someone completely from public life because she organised a completely legitimate event hosted by an MP and has said nothing illegal. But yes, let's be judge and jury, shall we?

The owner and managers of the Birds Nest know perfectly well about my campaigning work on the GRA and I've done several clothes swaps in the last 7 months since I've been working on it. They always said they were neutral about it and that everyone is welcome there. However, at the first whiff of trouble, they side with the transactivist, citing bad reviews from the LGBT community. Nobody asked me if I was ok and, as far as I know, nobody has contact Andi to challenge his behaviour.

Well done 2wheels for being on the side of violent fascists.

The whole thing is about women being kept away from the real world of men. Not even leaving the house as we can't find a toilet that might be safe. Back to the Victorian ages, when men were men, and women and children were seen and not heard.

We see you letting Male violence pass, letting their threats drip onto women and the working classes and continually impact their lives.

And seeing as it's coming from people who regularly tell us TERFS to suck their dicks or die in a fire, I would say it takes a particularly thick idiot to deny the implication of violence in that threat.
