I've been organising free clothes swaps in south east London since 2013. Attended mainly, but not exclusively, by women and their children, they are fun events that save money and the environment and strengthen and enrich the community.

The Birds Nest thebirdsnestpub.com/ have hosted many of our swaps in their back room. I am also a regular customer at the pub.

I had planned an event there next Friday 6th April. However, a local transactivist came on to the event page a few days ago and threatened to disrupt it (see attached screenshot).

I asked the managers to have a word with this man (also a regular customer) and to ban him from the event to ensure our safety. However, their response was to immediately cancel our event and to take no action on the man.

I'm extremely upset on a personal level but also furious that men can make violent threats against women, specifically in front of their children, yet simultaneously claim victim status.

This is how transactivism works

Coming back @2WheelsGood to debate??

Or did you just dump and run like all of the fucking cowards??

LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 01/04/2018 10:01

So do you think telling trans people they are "trash" as I turned it around is fine and not a threat??

Gonna answer??

HairyBallTheorem · 01/04/2018 10:04

Just for the avoidance of doubt, 2Wheels "we see you" means this: you are hiding under a cover of being terribly woke and right-on and liberal and virtue signally, and using this as a cover to take the side of violent misogynists threatening women with violence - the real world type of fist-to-the-face violence, not the pretend violence of using the wrong pronouns. You think that because you are dressing your misogyny up in a paper-thin disguise of being right-on that we won't see what you are up to. But actually, what you are up to shines through like a beacon.

That's what "we see you" means.

Jux · 01/04/2018 10:04

I have tried to phone the pub to ask them about this and express concern, but they're constantly engaged. I hope that's lots of MNers doing the same.

noeffingidea · 01/04/2018 10:05

2Wheels I think it means you're not fooling anyone and people can interpret your motivation from your posts.

LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 01/04/2018 10:08

A million times this^^^^^^^^

LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 01/04/2018 10:10

But like all the other woke cowards who are too "speshul" and delicate to actually answer questions or debate 2Wheels won't come back except to tell us how mean we are to criticize violent, angry cunts men.

LangCleg · 01/04/2018 10:10

And we're right back to the viral Twitter thread by Lucy:

There is no level of collateral damage that is not acceptable in order to punish a dissenting woman. These dickheads get off on their fantasies of a Trans Year Zero.

I still see you 2Wheels. We still see you.

I fucking see you.

I see all of you.

I will not stand by and watch violent misogynistic men take over our spaces and lives.

WE FUCKING SEE YOU.

SimonBridges · 01/04/2018 10:14

Threatening people with violence isn’t very Lady like is it?

2WheelsGood · 01/04/2018 10:16

@HairyBallTheorem - Thanks for the explanation. No idea where the misogyny is in my post and I've now googled and learnt the word 'woke' so thanks a lot.

I've also never been called "liberal" in my life so I'm glad I read this thread!

Where's the "right on" ness? I simply said that I don't see the violent physical threat in the message and that the venue likely didn't want to get involved with the OPs politics and cancelled the clothes swap.

You're really misinterpreting and inventing a lot of my opinion.

Daff0dil · 01/04/2018 10:16

I think it's important to keep sharing parts of the article written by JAmes Kirkup in this week's Spectator... commenting on the possible reasons' why some women's concerns are not being engaged with:

But that doesn’t seem to be happening. It’s because those women have been – quite successfully and even skilfully – demonised and stigmatised, put beyond the pale of civilised debate as those who question orthodoxy often are. They’ve been given a name, a name that means they’re bad people, people who should not speak and should not be heard. That name is “Terf,” which once meant “Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist” but now appears to stand in its own right as a term of abuse and dismissal alongside the other short, harsh words often used to question the worth and virtue of women
And that small number of people who direct violence and abuse at “Terfs” are swimming in a larger sea of contempt and dismissal.

Their conduct takes place in a social context where hostility to “Terfs” has become not just normal but even amusing, where there is no social cost to talking about and perhaps even inciting violence towards women who hold “unacceptable” views. Simply, some people, including people who would never themselves engage in that sort of violence, are doing things that make violent discourse and even violence look and feel OK. Sadly, they include journalists and politicians, people who parade their support for minority groups but speak about feminist women in terms they would never use about other people.

AngryAttackKittens · 01/04/2018 10:16

"Hi, my name is 2Wheels and I really don't like it when women get all opinionated. Being patronizing will shut them up, right? Wait, why isn't it working?"

SophoclesTheFox · 01/04/2018 10:17

So will you answer my polite question upthread, then, 2wheels?

Do you think it's OK to effectively bar people from public life because of their views?

Are you able to answer this?

LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 01/04/2018 10:18

Awww does my swearing upset you???

I swear because I am angry at the erasure of womens spaces.

Wow, you're an angry little terf, aren't you?

Wow what a patronizing misogynistic turn of phrase.

"little woman"

Debate means talking.

BTW my "fighting" against facism has meant risking arrest and violence defending mosques from skinheads.
It's meant facing down the EDL while they try to hurt me.

That kind of fucking fighting.

I am fucking proud of the fact that I stand with the oppressed.

Are you going to condemn the violent men who threaten me with rape and death for standing against them??

Or are you just having a pop at women speaking (and swearing!) for their rights??

2WheelsGood · 01/04/2018 10:18

"WE FUCKING SEE YOU."

Who is "we"? A few angry people on the internet?

"I will not stand by and watch violent misogynistic men take over our spaces and lives."

No. Don't. Get all sweary and then write a letter to complain to the pub. That'll show the fascists!

Ellenripleysalienbaby · 01/04/2018 10:18

2wheels you still haven't answered the question:

If the statement had been 'I'm gonna teach those kids how to deal with trans trash' do you think that would be threatening, or a perfectly innocent remark.

yetanothertranswoman · 01/04/2018 10:18

As someone who has "fought fascism all my adult life." do you think complaining collectively to the pub is going to get them to change their mind when they obviously don't care about and don't want to be involved in any kind of politics? Is complaining to the venue the type of 'fighting' you've been doing

I am a transwoman. You do not speak for me or for people like me who have struggled with gender dysphoria all their life.

Threatening women, closing venues down because you don't like the views of the organiser who is organising a clothes swap.

Seriously.

You do not speak for me.

DontCisgenderMe · 01/04/2018 10:19

Absolutely appalling. What on earth does a clothes swap have to do with your views on the GRA? Does this TRA think that anything that you say or do must automatically be ‘wrong’?

I agree with the others, you must report this and keep a record of screenshots, dates, times etc. There are too many women staying silent about all sorts of threats and acts of male violence, for fear of not being believed or that the police won’t act. We have to keep speaking up.

Stay strong.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 01/04/2018 10:20

Just another way of closing down women.

Just fence us off.

AngryAttackKittens · 01/04/2018 10:21

I hate to say this but given the likelihood that he'll escalate I'd report just so there's already a track record, which will make it harder for the police to ignore the next incident.

HairyBallTheorem · 01/04/2018 10:21

*Thanks for the explanation. No idea where the misogyny is in my post and I've now googled and learnt the word 'woke' so thanks a lot.

So you're not a liberal, didn't know what woke meant, just randomly wandered onto the feminist section of mumsnet and onto a trans thread in order to plop, without knowing the context of Maria Miller being beaten up at a demo and various women being threatened with violence.

Yeah, right.

And I'm the fucking pope.

That post of yours is complete bollocks - big fat hairy male bollocks. And you know it. And you think that we're too stupid to know it too.

LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 01/04/2018 10:22

Have you ever faced down a mob of angry racist misogynistic men hell bent on ripping you to pieces???

Cos I have.

And just because they put on a fucking dress and call themselves Susan, doesn't change that violence.

I see them.

I see the same angry violent men I see everywhere else.

Only now I'm not allowed to call out their actual real life violence cos my calling them out is now deemed "literal violence"

2WheelsGood · 01/04/2018 10:22

"Awww does my swearing upset you?"

No. I think it makes you look like an idiot though.

"Wow what a patronizing misogynistic turn of phrase."

How was it misogynistic? You sound more and more ridiculous every time you try and write something. I did not call you a "little woman" so don't invent quotes.
