I've been organising free clothes swaps in south east London since 2013. Attended mainly, but not exclusively, by women and their children, they are fun events that save money and the environment and strengthen and enrich the community.

The Birds Nest thebirdsnestpub.com/ have hosted many of our swaps in their back room. I am also a regular customer at the pub.

I had planned an event there next Friday 6th April. However, a local transactivist came on to the event page a few days ago and threatened to disrupt it (see attached screenshot).

I asked the managers to have a word with this man (also a regular customer) and to ban him from the event to ensure our safety. However, their response was to immediately cancel our event and to take no action on the man.

I'm extremely upset on a personal level but also furious that men can make violent threats against women, specifically in front of their children, yet simultaneously claim victim status.

This is how transactivism works

I have to go out in a minute, so I'm just going to take it as read that 2wheels is here for a goad and not a debate, and that s/he won't answer my question, the disingenous little poppet.

AngryAttackKittens · 01/04/2018 10:24

Have you ever faced down a mob of angry racist misogynistic men hell bent on ripping you to pieces???

I lived in Saudi Arabia as a child. I've had lots of practice in not backing down in the face of angry misogynists.

NotTerfNorCis · 01/04/2018 10:24

angry little terf

Wow that's a blast from the past. Reminds me of arguments with men's rights activists. They were very keen on calling me 'little'. At the back of their minds they picture feminists/women as small and inferior.

AngryAttackKittens · 01/04/2018 10:26

I think the "behold, a man has arrived" pic would just about cover it, Sophocles. Presumably someone will eventually post it.

Please report it OP. This is a threat and should be recorded as such. SIckening.

LangCleg · 01/04/2018 10:30

"Hi, my name is 2Wheels and I really don't like it when women get all opinionated. Being patronizing will shut them up, right? Wait, why isn't it working?"

They all think they're so original, don't they?

Hey 2Wheels, I see you. We see you. Don't shut your penis in the door on the way out.

Ellenripleysalienbaby · 01/04/2018 10:31

2wheels you still haven't answered the question about how you would feel about that message if it said 'teach those children how to deal with trans trash'?

LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 01/04/2018 10:31

Yeah I'm not the one making themselves sound ridiculous.

You were patronising about my anti fascist activities.

You used a misogynistic term (and sorry I don't believe your faux innocence at "little" being a term used by men to make outspoken women feel small).

You tried to make out that my lifes activism is nothing more than letter writing and swearing.

Have you ever actually risked violence and incarceration protecting peoples spaces??

Have you??

Or are you just another person bashing a keyboard??

Ellenripleysalienbaby · 01/04/2018 10:32

Yes, you thought that calling a woman 'am angry little terf' would shut them up?

Oh dear........

Ellenripleysalienbaby · 01/04/2018 10:32

*an

HairyBallTheorem · 01/04/2018 10:32

I've checked out their posting history. They're a very recent arrival. Don't like women talking about male violence, mansplaining or (bizarrely) gardening. A woman having the temerity to complain about inadequate garden maintenance threatens the patriarchy, it would appear. Who knew?

2WheelsGood · 01/04/2018 10:34

@Ellenripleysalienbaby - yes I did. I said it still wouldn't be a threat.

@LangCleg - it's sad that you think everyone who disagrees with you is a man. You don't actually see much beyond your own sexism.

LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 01/04/2018 10:35

Reminds me of arguments with men's rights activists. They were very keen on calling me 'little'. At the back of their minds they picture feminists/women as small and inferior

But...but..'.but they weren't using it like that.....
It's not a misogynistic term at all and hasn't been used to make women feel silly ever

ijustwannadance · 01/04/2018 10:36

I also wonder were all these dead trans kids are.
It's like all the trans women being constantly attacked and murdered. Yeah, not in the UK though....

Angryresister · 01/04/2018 10:37

I read an excellent piece by a community worker in Deptford saying that a group of privileged men were becoming a problem in the area, making Trans the only issue, disrupting meetings etc. Presumably this is one of them. This is what happens when we resist male colonization. Angry that this is getting worse. We must continue to support women who fight back . A clothes swap ffs....

LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 01/04/2018 10:37

Well if you don't trim those bushes ladies the menz won't sleep with you.

AngryAttackKittens · 01/04/2018 10:38

Gardening is misandry! Learn something new every day, I guess.

IfNot · 01/04/2018 10:38

Ach just ignore 2 wheels. He reads to me like the kind of MAMIL who comes aggressively swooshing up on his posh bike behind women and children ambling along by the canal, ringing his little bell as if to say "out of my way insignificant people! Here comes a middle aged man who is so disappointed in the way his life has turned out he has to resort to bullying randoms!"
I just ignore them and watch their faces get all red. And I fight the temptation to stick out my leg and watch them go over. Usually. Easter Smile
Sorry that happened Dr. Clothes swaps are a great idea, and really useful if you are skint, or have (ahem) gone up a couple of sizes and can't afford new gear.
I think you should contact the police too. The language used was very threatening, and to actually stop you going about your business because of who you are is shocking.

Ellenripleysalienbaby · 01/04/2018 10:39

yes I did. I said it still wouldn't be a threat.

Yes, I'm sure that sort of message wouldn't be doing the rounds on Twitter, as an example of TERFs inciting 'genocide' Hmm

Just like Venice's 'I think Lily Madigan might fake a suicide soon' message (which wasn't actually a message to Lily) doesnt continue to get passed around as an example of TERFs inciting violence and telling trans people that they should kill themselves.

LangCleg · 01/04/2018 10:42

it's sad that you think everyone who disagrees with you is a man. You don't actually see much beyond your own sexism

I still see you. We still see you. Mind that penis because it keeps talking for you. The penis does tend to do that.

Lampage · 01/04/2018 10:43

Have you managed to find a different venue OP? I see from the FB comments there have been offers.

I agree that this should be reported to the police. The person is making threats and harassing you.

AngryAttackKittens · 01/04/2018 10:46

Not so much talking as belching in a self-important way.

It's an odd hobby, hanging around feminist spaces scolding women for, well, existing really. Comes across a bit "this is the only way I ever get to talk to women at all".

borntobequiet · 01/04/2018 10:56

A young female relative of mine used to run a gardening business. She was continually mansplained to by a couple of her male clients, especially about the correct use of chainsaws, despite the fact that they knew nothing and she was fully trained and licenced.
She also found that it was better off middle aged men who tried to negotiate down her (perfectly reasonable) quotes, and who were very miffed when she told them to find someone else then.

They just can't help themselves can they? It's like that is literally all they can do.
