I love it. I love her, love the article, bloody love Mumsnet today! And proud as fuck of Man Friday.

NoSquirrels · 31/03/2018 17:32

@53rdWay absolutely! The “MN is a radical hotbed of angry middle-aged harpies” thing is so interesting.

I’m not radical (except apparently I am, for having an opinion on this issue). I never thought of myself as middle-aged yet till now (early 40s) but just seeing that the younger generation see this all as SO bigoted is making me feel out of date. It’s very confusing when you’ve always been a liberal. Confused

DarthArts · 31/03/2018 17:35

One of the interesting things on twitter are the number of trans activists/allies responding to the article with comments that serve only to legitimatise the points Hadley is making.

I can help feel that's a good indicator of exactly how little critical thought they've put into the subject at hand.

This is also a good piece by Debbie Hayton btw.

KatherinaMinola · 31/03/2018 17:37

I think its a good article but i don't agree with this:

"This is something women and trans women will have to work out between themselves, because this is a woman’s rights issue."

Why should women have to work anything out with transwomen? Transwomen are men. Men should be working out how to balance their needs amongst themselves.

Yes, that bit jumped out at me, Biology. Like the people who think that equal pay is a women's issue.

Other than that I thought it was a very good, endlessly quotable article. I really like Hadley.

TerfsUp · 31/03/2018 17:37

that's a good indicator of exactly how little critical thought they've put into the subject at hand.

To be fair, if TRAs put critical thought into transideology they would have to admit that it's nonsense: biology trumps feelings. Once you start down that path, the whole "oh, but I identify as a woman" facade crumbles away.

KatherinaMinola · 31/03/2018 17:38

I suspect that what peak-transed her was not ManFriday though, but the aggro she got from TRAs when she had the temerity to write about her miscarriage.

FlexTimeCheekyFucker · 31/03/2018 17:46

Bravo.

Ifonlyus · 31/03/2018 17:48

So happy to see that article. Thanks Hadley.

So utterly relieved to see this article in the Gdn - I feel the tide must be tiring. How can we help protect Hadley Freeman from the abuse she will get? www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2018/mar/31/man-explains-what-means-be-woman

GreyGauntlet · 31/03/2018 18:21

I am pretty sure the "other women" line was a compromise to avoid "cis-women"

IndominusRex · 31/03/2018 18:28

**Why aren’t the woke lefty dude bros starting an ‘I’ll piss with you’ or ‘I’ll undress with you’ campaign if they are so concerned with transphobia in men’s facilities then?

THIS!!!!!

PissMinge · 31/03/2018 18:40

I posted this on FB.
This is one response (from a man):

" 'Predatory men'. Whilst reading the newspapers over the last week, i read 4 different stories abput 4 different peadophiles. All of them were women. And 40% of domestic violence victims are men. Men receive higher prison sentences for the same crimes. More men than women are denied access to their children and fare worse in financial divorce cases."

RidingWindhorses · 31/03/2018 18:50

It's actually about 15% of da victims that are men.

newtlover · 31/03/2018 18:54

ask for sources
I highly doubt that those paedophiles are real women acting alone. They will either be TIM or they are acting with/directed by men.
From my experience, men are only denied access to children for very good reasons, more often courts err in the fathers favour and kids have to see abusive men against their and their mother's wishes.

Destinysdaughter · 31/03/2018 19:00

Also re male DV, a lot of those victims will be men in gay relationships, women perpetrate DV much less than women do.

ShackUp · 31/03/2018 19:17

Hadley, I just reactivated FB and posted your article. You've made me feel brave Thanks thank you

CigarsofthePharoahs · 31/03/2018 19:19

Amazing article!
👏👏👏

mirialis · 31/03/2018 19:22

"I saw a tweet too about how the Guardian will have 'blood on its hands' after this."

Ironically that tweeter is the same one who claimed that TWs get monthly cycles on the thread about period knickers for "menstruators" rather than women.

Um, no. No blood in TWs period pants, no blood on Hadley's hands.

SecretsRsecrets · 31/03/2018 19:29

Just wanted to add my thanks and appreciation for Hadley's pieceFlowers

Also I thought the bit at the end where she says that this is between women and TW was actually good, because, ( although I agree that TW are a subset of men and men should budge over, we know that will never happen ) I took it that she was making the point that all these men (TRAs/MRAs) telling women what to do need to BUTT OUT and let WOMEN and TW sort out the details. Which could make life a whole lot easier if actual women and actual TW got to sit down and sort out options.

Thank you to all the man friday MNers and Debbie too!Flowers

washewihersen · 31/03/2018 19:33

I was really pleased to read Hadley's article today too but I dont necessarily think there's anything 'radical' about the views on here. Biological women make up half the population and as such their rights and needs have to be given the appropriate weight by society as a whole. This is not discrimination against trans women, nor as pp have said, something women should have to sort out with trans women either.

ApplesinmyPocket · 31/03/2018 19:34

How good to see this in the G, which I've given up on after being loyal for many years.

Well done Hadley; you nailed it.

dorade · 31/03/2018 19:37

This is bloody brilliant. I love Hadley anyway. I'm 90% with the article (we are not 'other' women as that implies trans women are women). But given how fast we are going down the fucking rabbit hole on this, it is fab.

I switched subscriptions from the Guardian to the Times when Janice Turner took up the baton. One swallow doesn't a summer make, so not about to switch back. But I could kiss Hadley!

fluffygreenmonsterhoody · 31/03/2018 20:27

Well played Hadley, exceptionally well played.

ChattyLion · 31/03/2018 20:32

Star Hadley
