Be interesting if it actually gets debated.

...but as history shows the changes often prevail.
That is what we though when we fought long and hard to codify women's right into law and now that we have made a bit of progress women are being displaced by males.
I am worried for the biology teachers and the medical professionals who choose material reality over transgender beliefs.

Self ID is a positive move and thankfully moving along as it should.
I don't understand why anyone needs to id as anything. Just be yourself. It seems a backwards step to try and fit people into all sorts of categories.
Oh, and here are some of the heart throbs of my youth just in case you thought that putting on make up etc was a new thing.
I also can't understand why wearing make-up is seen as a female thing to do. I found it completely strange that the 15 year old on that programme had drawn a picture to represent changing from male to female and the female images were lots of make-up. When I was at school and college, I knew boys who would wear make-up. I'm all for people being gender nonconforming but I don't see why that would need someone to want to change sex.

Terftastic · 24/02/2018 22:28

If this goes on much longer, there will be bonfires of GCSE textbooks on the street....

I'm not sure incorruptible's response to me warrants another response, does it? I mean it's just more "la la la, I can't hear you, this never happens" - when we can see it is happening - right now.

kinda rapey exactly covers it. Young women being bullied, threatened with social ostracism, exclusion, and sometimes even finding themselves on the receiving end of physical violence for not wanting penis. Looks a hell of a lot like corrective rape or the threat of corrective rape to me.

I am not going to be gaslit into thinking it's okay to tell young lesbians that they must have sex with people with penises or be pilloried for being "bigots". Anyone who can read the words of actual transactivists on the cotton ceiling (their words, not the words of feminists talking about it) and not recoil in horror has entirely lost their sense of right and wrong.

It might be how you perceive the truth from your very limited and influenced viewpoint. That does not make it true.

And no it is not rape or anything remotely like it.

thebewilderness · 25/02/2018 00:28

You are in full on pomo mode now. The subjectivity of truth! Let us consider.
Truth and its neighbor facts have a well known transphobic bias.

thebewilderness · 25/02/2018 00:29

It is like old home week talking to a narcissist who is quite sure that it is all a matter of perception.

Ereshkigal · 25/02/2018 00:45

I think away from groups that harbour narrow minded views such as MN most people are very much ok with this

They aren't. MN is much more representative of the wider public that your friendship group is.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 25/02/2018 01:10

Your little boys aren't going to come home wanting a skirt for their birthday.

Mine probably will. But he has been in dresses at home for a while now. Elsa dresses to be precise, and he got a wig + jewelled crown for xmas too that he adores. My daughter meanwhile, got a woody the cowboy outfit. I don't care one bit, its totally normal for kids to like playing dress up. I doubt you would find many parents on here that strictly enforce sex stereotypes. Most are very against them, which is why many are against this whole trans rubbish...as kids are being told if they do not follow the correct stereotypes for their sex, then they re actually the opposite sex. Trans ideology enforces stereotypes.

This issue is here to stay and unfortunately it may well be a case of waiting for your generation to die off before it can be fully accepted.

Will be a while for my generation to die out. 60 years or so maybe? Hopefully all this bollocks will be gone by then, and kids are allowed to be kids without being drugged and sterylised for not being a walking stereotype. And adults will be able to wear/do what they like too.

RedToothBrush · 25/02/2018 01:44

How can we fight sexist stereotypes if they are also the foundations of some people’s identity?

To quote a blog ive seen this week.

This is sexism. Gender identity IS sexism.

LizzieSiddal · 25/02/2018 08:25

You are very wrong about this, many many people don’t even know what Self ID is or what’s happening in schools etc.
When it’s explained they are very shocked. The ITV programme, TransKids, last week proved this. The vast majority of comments were along the lines of “The world had gone mad, leave young children alone”

This is exactly what I have believed all along and in my view is the root of the problem. The apparent teenage cult of transgenderism in my view is a backlash against rigid gender roles that go back decades if not centuries. The modern solution to finding hyper masculinity or sexualised femininity attractive of unattainable (depending on assigned gender) is chagning gender, and appropriating territory previously for those with serious gender dysphoria - a miniscule amount of society.

It has become a right royal mess.

PeteAndManu · 26/02/2018 23:15

I think the medical aspects of it and giving children untested drugs for transition have parallels with the MMR scandal and Wakefield. Unfortunately I fear the MMR scandal will be a picnic compared to this. Untested or unreliable research, uncritical press and an agenda pushed by a small group of people.

Lupron for children will be this generations thalidomide.

PositivelyPERF · 28/02/2018 09:47

Lupron for children will be this generations thalidomide. When I said something similar to a friend, she looked horrified, as we are both @ 50, so very aware of thalidomide. It really hit home. I think the transitioning of children and young people, really is a very good comparison to thalidomide.

OldCrone · 28/02/2018 10:10

Lupron for children will be this generations thalidomide.

This is the drug that Ollie (aged 15) in the programme is taking every three months to pause puberty, injected by Ollie's parents. Ollie was born male, but wants to be female. Ollie is waiting for an appointment with the Tavistock in London. They don't say who prescribed the puberty blockers, or how long the child has been on them.

athingthateveryoneneeds · 28/02/2018 10:18

We need to stop calling these drugs puberty blockers. They are cancer treatments. This is horrifying.

LineysShanks · 28/02/2018 19:34

From www.lupron.com

As treatment for precocious puberty:

"Mental (psychiatric) problems have been reported in patients taking GnRH agonists, like LUPRON DEPOT-PED. Events include emotional symptoms such as crying, irritability, restlessness (impatience), anger, and acting aggressive. • Inform your child’s doctor right away if your child has any new or worsening mood symptoms while taking LUPRON DEPOT-PED. • Seizures have been observed in patients taking GnRH agonists, like LUPRON DEPOT-PED, with or without a history of seizures, epilepsy, brain or brain vessel problems or tumors, and in patients taking medications that have been connected to seizures. • Call your child’s doctor right away if your child has a seizure while taking LUPRON DEPOT-PED. • Your child’s pubertal development could begin again if the injection schedule is not followed."

Who are the major shareholders?

LineysShanks · 28/02/2018 19:37

And this website claims it messes with thyroid function
