Be interesting if it actually gets debated.

Twitter is busy. Lots of people who I suspect have never thought about this before going WTF?! Reassuring really

Terftastic · 22/02/2018 20:38

Yes I came across an 'Elf" recently on twitter, while perusing this gender stuff.

Makes you wonder what will be next.

Terftastic · 22/02/2018 20:40

"Educate" who? Each to their own mate just stop shoving it down our throats & encouraging kids that that have 70+ identities to choose from. If a kid thinks they're the Incredible Hulk shall we start injecting them with green dye when they're three?

^ We are all this Tweeter.

ijustwannadance · 22/02/2018 20:45

I had older brothers and played football, cricket, built go karts and climbed trees.
These days I would be told I was trans.

If you look at the new Facebook genders, a lot of them are repeats. Eg there are lots of CIS categories. And there is both MaleToFemale and MTF.

madeyemoodysmum · 22/02/2018 20:47

Terftastic. I applaude you. I think you may have a point there!

Marketing and capitalism may play a larger part in this than anyone will care to admit.

Terftastic · 22/02/2018 20:48

DO you actually have to be of Native American heritage to claim "Two spirits" ? Because I quite fancy that one.

grannytomine · 22/02/2018 20:50

Fuck. I'm pretty sure I didn't 'want' to be a girl or a boy at 7, I wanted to be rolling around in the dirt as much as the next boy - or girl - or watching Tiswas. There really weren't many rigid gender stereotypes in the 70's - kids were just kids as I remember. I spent half of my childhood in stretchy navy nylon trouser things. And an orange and brown polar neck jumper. I'm in no doubt at all I am a woman. Because biology.

I was brought up in the 50s and feel the same. The mad thing is things have got so much better for women, pay, maternity leave, educational opportunities etc but children seem to be put in ever more rigid boxes. I played cowboys and indians but my favourite was Zorro, not the modern one the old one we used to watch at the 3d Saturday morning picture show at the local flea pit. Your mum would hand you over to some older kids who would take you and bring you back in exchange for enough money to get in and buy an ice lol. My Zorro mask and sword were precious. Not interested in dolls, never had a dolls pram, a tea set or anything like that. It just didn't seem to matter.

I thought it was telling that the 15 year olds picture about transitioning seemed to be all about make up and fashion. How sad that they couldn't just have long hair and make up and still be a boy.

to be fair about the 70 something genders it was a facebook thing so not exactly medical or official or anything.

Doobigetta · 22/02/2018 20:51

Well I'm going to be three spirits.

Gin, rum and vodka

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/02/2018 20:51

71 genders is well short of the "true" number

I had short hair, according to some MN threads my parents should have been locked up, girls have to have long hair and of course boys have to have short hair because you know, well just because.

Gacapa · 22/02/2018 20:53

Can't bear to watch either.

Terftastic · 22/02/2018 20:54

Yes grannie - why is being a woman all about makeup and long hair? Why can't we extend the boundaries to masculinity?

I was a teen in the 80's - and goddamn - did Duran Duran wear a lot of makeup. They were undoubtably MEN. Fancied by millions of girls.

ijustwannadance · 22/02/2018 21:00

Primary age kids simply don't need to know any of this shit.

It's pushed as something that will give them the freedom to be who they really are but they are ALREADY free to develop their own personality as they grow up.

It's also made out to be the solution to mental health issues. The money should be spent on better support networks in schools.

Just leave the bloody kids alone. If adults want to trans then good for them but why confuse children by filling their heads with utter shite.

Terftastic I'm definitely a woman, I've given birth to 4 kids. Apparently liking short hair didn't make me unattractive to men and I go through phases with make up, haven't being wearing any for months but spent too much money on some today as I'm going to a big family event next week and thought I'd make an effort. I might wear a skirt/dress half a dozen times a year, I love my trousers. None of this makes a difference to me being a woman and as you say wearing make up or having long hair doesn't stop a man being a man. I wish kids didn't have to conform to these "rules" and could just be kids.

One day some of them might decide they are trans, I think that has always been a thing, but it is a small minority and shouldn't be an issue so young.

Doobigetta · 22/02/2018 21:03

That full list of genders is fucking hilarious. Apparently we can all call ourselves EXGENDER- an outright refusal to identify with, in, on or as any gender.

But I've given it a lot of thought, and I'm going to be demi-smoke. It's going to require the adoption of a voice like Galadriel's when she went a bit ring-mad.

user1474652148 · 22/02/2018 21:05

Oh thanks for the warning. Switching over there is such a thing as over exposure

RJnomore1 · 22/02/2018 21:05

I'm still boggles at the elf

How you can you be transpecies to a species that doesn't exis

There's an episode of South Park where someone becomes a dolphin. It's very goood. Off to find it.

RJnomore1 · 22/02/2018 21:09

Seriously, read the plot, this is from 2005

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Garrison%27s_Fancy_New_Vagina

MouldyVoldy · 22/02/2018 21:10

RJ, that episode is brilliant.* It’s called something like Mr Garrisons new vagina.*

I’m not watching.* I can’t. Too much rage and the boyfriend is watching football but I’ve been reading tweets. So many women using cis and it’s given me the rage. If you don’t agree with medicating children you are ‘uneducated’ absolute madness.*

MouldyVoldy · 22/02/2018 21:11

Argh. Why am I all bold! 😭

ijustwannadance · 22/02/2018 21:14

If elf boy had spent some of the money on counselling instead of ridiculous surgery, he would maybe have realised that it was ok to admit he was simply a gay man.

Giving children 70+ identities to choose from is ridiculous. My 7yo would just choose whatever her best friend did!

The hashtag is resoundingly gender critical.

Goldmonday · 22/02/2018 21:15

I can't bring myself to watch it as I have PMT and it will set me off big time. Can someone give me a brief synopsis of what the debate was on and what key points were made so on and so forth??

ijustwannadance · 22/02/2018 21:19

The programme basically just told us about how we are now to teach primary school kids about all the many genders they can choose and how much we need to support trans.
Mainly one sided and Paris Lees saying all the objection is us being hysterical.
