I don’t like the term “peak trans”

I mean I get it. But I think your term should be peak TRA.

“Peak- “ is, as I understand it, a reference to the term “ peak oil” with all the connotations of the amount of oil reducing down to nothing.

Which is not, I hope, the way anyone feels about trans people.

Just my take on things

I watched a bbc programme around the time of the gra. It was about intersex children who were truly neither one sex or the other, having the time to grow up and decide for themselves how they wanted to be rather than people trying to work it out for them as newborns then trying to make that work. A change in the law would allow them to change the sex on their birth certificate when they were older. Who could not agree with that?

Unfortunately a combination of the act loopholes, EA 2010 in consistencies and activists with the funding and means to push the law in their direction, and push organisations into altering their guidelines to suit them have lead to a position where a lot of this law is not performing as intended.

Mogleflop · 21/02/2018 09:23

It wasn't a rhetorical question. I was quite serious in asking if that's what you were saying. Because that's what you were saying.

And then I posted an explanation of what it meant and you ignored it.

SharpLily · 21/02/2018 09:30

I don't even know what TRA is! Fuck me, I'm clearly old because I've had to google a shitload of definitions and in some cases am no closer to the answers. Have some of you even looked at what you're writing? This thread is full of TRA, GRA, MRA, TERF blahblahblah. None of it means anything to me. I'm happy for anyone to live as they like, excluding hurting anyone else, but I have clearly reached 'peak trans' because every time I look at the active threads list it's full of discussions about trans something that has offended someone. It's Mumsnet. I'm here to learn about how to wrangle my kids and am fed up with being bombarded by this bullshit.

Oh, and peak oil means nothing to me. I have no idea where the term came from originally but to my generation it is used to indicate you have reached your limit of tolerance for something. I'm pretty sure the OP knows this and is clearly struggling to find things to be offended by today.

And Littlebird, I'm sorry you've had a hard time, I really am, but children and teens get bullied for all sorts of things. The way you have gone about living your life sounds admirable to me but let's be clear, no-one is calling you a man but being intersex is not exactly the same as being a woman, biologically. It just isn't. It's intersex,a third and entirely different thing to man or woman, and there's nothing wrong with that.

In case anyone can't tell by this rant, I have also reached peak political correctness. I am fed up of being told I'm using the wrong terms to describe people. I'm fed up of people desperately trying to be offended by those of us just trying to get on with our lives who don't have time to memorise the latest political correctness dogma, which not only includes self ID bullshit, incidentally, but also how I should describe people of different colours. I don't care what colour or sex or gender someone is. I just need an identifier for each, I have a brain like a sieve and am bored of having to worry I will offend someone with what I choose.

Jesus Christ!

Amoregentlemanlikemanner

Datun, it began with a fake rhetorical question. I have to deal with enough of that crap at work. If I'm not being paid, I don't read stuff like that.

Eh? Your opening post quite clearly linked to the term peak trans to oil!

It was genuinely a question asking you if you've never heard about the peak of a mountain.

I've had a long-term policy of not reading posts that begin this way. I should have kept that policy to myself I guess!
lesson learnt.

Well yes. It's an odd set of criteria on which to base the decision to read a post or not.

And I agree, it's probably best not to inform people that you disagree with a post that you haven't read.

It tends to undermine the credibility of your argument against it.

BigDeskBob · 21/02/2018 09:40

It's just thread where the op cannot argue that male is female, therefore uses pedantry to stop us talking. It isn't the first, won't be the last, unfortunately.

LangCleg · 21/02/2018 10:36

But I think your term should be peak TRA.

No.

Boundary clarified. Language is not yours to police.

Thread over. Fin.

(Can we get back to avocados now?)

Emerencealwayshopeful · 21/02/2018 11:11

I really really dislike avocados. Nasty slimy green mush.

Not unlike the crap that some ‘people’ spout.

I’ve decided that if I am no longer a woman - for trans women are women and the rest of us are now cis-women - then I should claim people/person for those of us with female biology (I’m worried that these two words together are actually hate speech but I’m hoping someone will be by soon to confirm as much). Penis owners, including my much beloved sons, are no longer people but both man and woman as they dictate, even if they choose different terms to suit different circumstances

Emerencealwayshopeful · 21/02/2018 11:12

I also wonder, if one reaches peak-avo would one suddenly be able to afford to buy a house?

PositivelyPERF · 21/02/2018 11:27

We avocado lovers could probably build you one from all the avocado stones. 😁

SharpLily · 21/02/2018 11:30

Hmmm, my legs are pretty hairy today and I've been barking quite a lot so I think I should self ID as a dog. What rights will that get me?

UrsulaPandress · 21/02/2018 11:55

First time I've ever been accused of misogyny.
And surely, 'peak oil' and its 'meaning' is because oil is a finite resource, so pretty niche.

PositivelyPERF · 21/02/2018 12:03

What rights will that get me? you can shit in public and lick yourself clean! 😁

Ereshkigal · 21/02/2018 12:21

I like mashed Hass avocado on toast with slices of Choquette avocado on top (with salt - have to have salt)

Ooh niche! Sounds good 🥑

UrsulaPandress · 21/02/2018 12:22

I've just had Peck's Anchovette on toast.

Yum.

Ereshkigal · 21/02/2018 12:27

I didn't say "that's nice dear" because you are a woman OP. I said it because you are an obvious GF.

UrsulaPandress · 21/02/2018 12:29

How do you know the OP is a woman?

Ereshkigal · 21/02/2018 12:30

That's the point. I don't.

Ereshkigal · 21/02/2018 12:30

But it would be strange for them to complain about "misogynist bullying" otherwise.

UrsulaPandress · 21/02/2018 12:34

Like you say. A GF.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 21/02/2018 15:10

I dont understand why some people want to punish me or other intersex people , I have specifically never worked or put myself in any situation where anything could be levelled at me

Noone wants to punish you or intersex people. They just do not wish to open up womens spaces (and lesbians legs) to any man.

Feminists did not start this. Women have shared spaces with transsexual people for years. but the proposal is tyo let ANY MAN into these spaces on nothing but his say so. This will negatively affect transsexual people too..given transsexual people are presumably trying to escape male violence by using the female areas in the first place. So, opening up the female area to anyone, just means that both the mens and the womens are unsafe...no? Along with the huge loss of privacy involved in getting rid of sex segregation. Consent, women who have been raped and as such do not want to share intimate spaces or be examined intimately by men..and so on.

We have a few transsexual posters on here who disagree with self-ID completely, and they can see the issues, both for women and for themselves.

I don't get why its made out that women defending their own rights are just being big transphobic meanies.

thebewilderness · 21/02/2018 15:35

Setting aside the implication that you are the main character in our life story, I don't understand why you expect women to act as men's human shield.
Intersex people need provisions made for them in law. No question. That is what reasonable people expected the GRA to provide for and in fact that is what we were told it did provide for. As one of the people responsible for writing it you are at fault for writing it so carelessly that it invites abuse by predators.

qumquat · 21/02/2018 15:48

I always assumed it was from peak oil. It's trendy speak at the moment. I see it as reaching the end of your tolerance of something. Linked to being the most extreme example of the ridiculousness of something. Like #peakowenjones on twitter a while back. I'm at peak Ofsted today...

qumquat · 21/02/2018 15:49

Oops didn't realise the thread had moved on

UrsulaPandress · 21/02/2018 15:51

I've always found that people are at great pains to exclude intersex from trans discussions as it is a recognised biological condition.

thebewilderness · 21/02/2018 15:53

Intersex people have been asking for years that we please not conflate transgender with intersex. I respect the request as do most Feminists.
