I don’t like the term “peak trans”

I mean I get it. But I think your term should be peak TRA.

“Peak- “ is, as I understand it, a reference to the term “ peak oil” with all the connotations of the amount of oil reducing down to nothing.

Which is not, I hope, the way anyone feels about trans people.

Just my take on things

OP posts:

Me? I haven't sniped at anyone except the OP.

AngryAttackKittens · 20/02/2018 23:03

I hit Peak Guardian...well, every time I read the Guardian, basically. It helps if you stick strictly to the more news-y articles, but even then...

MyNewBearTotoro · 20/02/2018 23:03

I always took peak to mean at the top or limit of something so took saying ‘I’ve reached peak trans’ to mean one had reached their limit of hearing/ reading/ talking etc about trans. Not necessarily that it was anything negative about being trans or trans people but sort of saying they were fed up with the amount of coverage trans issues are getting right now (whichever side of the debate they might lie). Every other thread on Mumsnet seems to be related to trans issues in some way or another right now and it is similar on many social media or news websites so I thought being at ‘peak [issue]’ related to feeling like you are at your limit of how much you wanted to think about it.

After reading this thread I now see maybe that’s not how a lot of people are perceiving the term. I certainly hadn’t considered it to me being at the top of a viewpoint of understanding around trans issues or to mean anything negative relating to trans people.

Ereshkigal · 20/02/2018 23:03

Yes, imagine they were considered hysterical and overwrought and exaggerating too..

thebewilderness · 20/02/2018 23:04

It is your thread that you started and you certainly have made it all about you.

flintyminty · 20/02/2018 23:06

Just thought it was interesting that a term that had not, as far as I know, been discussed on here before was popping up in two different places at approximately the same time.

Ereshkigal · 20/02/2018 23:06

In less than 2 hours.

AngryAttackKittens · 20/02/2018 23:06

Nah, definitely not Madigan, the writing style is too clear and there aren't any emojis.

busyboysmum · 20/02/2018 23:06

Wow. All these new posters. Mumsnet clearly ruffling some feathers.

#peaktrans is definitely here to stay. It describes the journey perfectly for so many people I speak to in real life.

PositivelyPERF · 20/02/2018 23:06

Peak Grauniad (articles about avocado toast)

You....you.....Avobigot you! goes to fridge and caresses avocado 🥑

TheFallenMadonna · 20/02/2018 23:07

I think that's how many people unfamiliar with MN feminist discourse around trans issues would interpret it MyNewBearTotoro.

BigDeskBob · 20/02/2018 23:08

Is there a word for peak 'people who join MN just to tell women they are doing feminism wrong'?

Ereshkigal · 20/02/2018 23:08

peaktrans is definitely here to stay. It describes the journey perfectly for so many people I speak to in real life.

This is the thing. It's an incredibly useful phrase I'm not giving up.

AngryAttackKittens · 20/02/2018 23:09

Also I liked my sherpa joke so I'm keeping it, sorry! I may even get a little hat and some crampons to accessorize.

PositivelyPERF · 20/02/2018 23:09

BigDeskBob Dicks?

AngryAttackKittens · 20/02/2018 23:11

Tedious wankers?

Ereshkigal · 20/02/2018 23:11

This thread is peak pearlclutching.

BeyondTerfyCassandra · 20/02/2018 23:12

Wow. It's not often the FWR board is accused of under thinking something! Shock

UrsulaPandress · 20/02/2018 23:15

I know. I feel a bit dirty.

LemonysSnicket · 20/02/2018 23:17

I’m 22 and peak to me means you’ve ‘peaked’ so reached the top. Climbed to the peak.

TheFallenMadonna · 20/02/2018 23:18

So when you have reached Peak Trans you are at the top of...?

There really isn't Juzza.

TheFallenMadonna · 20/02/2018 23:22

I do understand btw what is meant by #peaktrans.

It's just I don't see why a different interpretation (the I'm so over it version rather than the OP's) is apparently so ludicrous when it is such a common phrase.
