I don’t like the term “peak trans”

I mean I get it. But I think your term should be peak TRA.

“Peak- “ is, as I understand it, a reference to the term “ peak oil” with all the connotations of the amount of oil reducing down to nothing.

Which is not, I hope, the way anyone feels about trans people.

Just my take on things

Look, feminists, if you were intelligent and nice like me you'd do better.

Stop using clear-cut slogans amongst yourselves which have somehow taken root on various sites across the globe. No one can ever humanly guess or google what they mean.

Think about being nice instead. Try smiling and saying "we don't like misogyny" maybe?

AngryAttackKittens · 20/02/2018 22:53

Does it normally make you unsettled when you suggest that people use a different term to the one they're currently using and they don't immediately agree to adopt your preferred change?

Mogleflop · 20/02/2018 22:53

Also it's mainly your fault if transactivists do destroy women's rights, because you all chose the wrong hashtag.

Ereshkigal · 20/02/2018 22:54

You're not wrong, bewilderness.

LangCleg · 20/02/2018 22:55

I say peak loadsastuff.

Peak Grauniad (articles about avocado toast)

Peak Tory (when Jacob Rees Mogg appears on the TV)

Peak Pater (when my dad is gobbing off over his latest bonnet bee)

I thought it was a common thing?

I like #PeakGIT as well as #peaktrans (with GIT being both git and Gender Identity Theory. Nothing wrong with a snarky pun!)

Amoregentlemanlikemanner · 20/02/2018 22:55

Well, I guess we all have our defence mechanisms when we feel attacked and maybe mine is to patronise.
The comments are, for me, a bit unnerving.

OP posts:
Ereshkigal · 20/02/2018 22:55

I think you've been given a number of good reasons why #peaktrans is here to stay, OP.

Ereshkigal · 20/02/2018 22:57

You patronised before anyone attacked.

thebewilderness · 20/02/2018 22:57

I think the next stage is where we say "you do you".

Ereshkigal · 20/02/2018 22:58

Yep.

flintyminty · 20/02/2018 22:58

Surely a coincidence but LM also posting about peak oil & peaktrans on twitter this evening 10.21 pm. Shock

Amoregentlemanlikemanner · 20/02/2018 22:58

I campaigned on the streets

I saw the effect of using terms like “denier”

It didn’t work, it was counterproductive.

OP posts:
EasterRobin · 20/02/2018 22:59

I think you may have been surprised by the strength of feeling people have for the term. (I'm surprised anyway... Perhaps I haven't lurked enough yet!)

Ereshkigal · 20/02/2018 22:59

I think it's a useful term. Sorry. Not.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 20/02/2018 22:59

People do seem to find it strangely unnerving when women say clearly and directly what they think.

thebewilderness · 20/02/2018 22:59

Ursula came over from AIBU to snipe at the Feminists. Or maybe she is contemptuous because some of us are old, it is hard to be sure with trolls.

I am too old for this.

The idea of me being Lilly madigan is pretty funny. I don’t even know what half these terms mean.

OP posts:
AngryAttackKittens · 20/02/2018 23:01

Yeah, lots of people find it unnerving when women show that we have spines and won't back down and do what we're told. Feminists get over it.

EasterRobin · 20/02/2018 23:01

Do you think LM reads mumsnet? I'd wondered. How very rude after blocking so many mumsnetters on Twitter.

Ereshkigal · 20/02/2018 23:01

No one thinks you're Lily Madigan, they may think you're a Madigan acolyte. They may do, I couldn't possibly comment.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 20/02/2018 23:02

If you go and look at widespread opinion of the suffragettes in the early 20th century, it was widely agreed that their tactics were 'counterproductive' (to put it mildly)

Amoregentlemanlikemanner · 20/02/2018 23:02

“I think you may have been surprised by the strength of feeling people have for the term. (I'm surprised anyway... Perhaps I haven't lurked enough yet!)”

Yes. I’m taken aback

It has been our experience here that MN is so easygoing that people simply ask when they do not understand a term or how it is used and explanations are provided.
There is nothing we say here that men do not lie about elsewhere so best not to let it ruffle you.

Terftastic · 20/02/2018 23:02

Peak trans, to me, has always meant the mountainous kind of peak.
