...please could I ask exactly what was your lightbulb moment? What did you hear or read that pushed you to our alpine slopes?

Pink sperm.., on a masters degree, at a top uni?

You're pulling our legs surely Shock

HeyRoly · 08/02/2018 16:14

Today I saw a Women's Institute account on Instagram.

All self-identifying women welcome!

I'm looking forward to a bunch of men turning up and objecting to any discussion of women's issues. Too triggering, obvs.

Catmint · 08/02/2018 16:15

It was reading threads in here. So many examples.

AlllWomenShortbreads · 08/02/2018 16:19

A feminist academic friend of mine retweets some very dodgy TRA posts I noticed recently. I can’t imagine what she is teaching her students. I am avoiding her. Sad

athingthateveryoneneeds · 08/02/2018 16:50

What are we doing? What is happening? I've been so worried about self ID becoming law, I failed to notice that it is already happening all around me. Self ID is here.

Fuck. I thought I'd peaked a while back, but nope!
I peaked at precisely 3.32 this afternoon.
Discussing a feminist even with my (all male colleagues) and we got onto the subject of trans.
One said he'd been watching Life of Brian with his teen and had to warn her there was a bit that was "old fashioned" in reference to the Stan/Loretta scene and she was amazed they were making a joke about it.

But it is a fucking joke, and it's one that we are living right now - a man declares himself a woman and is "oppressed" by the notion that he cannot have babies!

It was MN (this board) that took the blinkers off for me, when Bruce became Caitlin Jenner. Then, the first female soldier thing and then cis, which made me shudder and then feel rage.

I think I might start identifying as a man with a vagina and wearing a big fuck off false beard.

iamawoman · 08/02/2018 17:30

Ive peaked on my peak today with the guardian article. Women calling other women cis and then having the audacity to write sisterhood in the same breath!! Transophantics!!!

TheFirstMrsDV · 08/02/2018 17:31

I have been concerned for a while.
Ironically I am the sort of person who would step in without hesitation if a transperson was being abused in any way. Ironic because it seems that I am now transphobic Confused
It may seem trivial but I think the final proof that we have fallen over the edge of reason is that a man in drag has won the first 'all women' CBB.
I am not misgendering him. He is a gay man who likes to dress as a hyper feminine woman.
And he has won an all woman competition.

CBB is crap and I don't watch it but it means something that the two favourites were a non woman and a woman who appeals to the anti feminist contingent.

Women like me haven't been so unpopular since the days of the suffragist. If you are not pretty, not 'girly', have opinions and want to be heard you don't fit the prefered stereotype. Big titted, massive haired sex dolls are cool. Crusty, old and right wing are cool. If you don't fit either you probably hate men and want them all dead.

SoulCister · 08/02/2018 17:31

I have been a serious lurker for years, but #peaktrans has brought me out of the shadows. Having always been an open-minded, inclusive, leftie-liberal, feminist type I was totally supportive of people being whatever and whoever they want to be... but a 'lady penis'? The #cottonceiling? Biological males in women's refuges? Children being pushed into transitioning? Biological males in women's prisons? Fuck no! And #nodebate???!!! Outrageous!!!

I am growing increasing more livid by the day and am ready to actively engage in defending women's rights.

As others have said, I have nothing but love and solidarity for individuals who have body dysmorphia, are transexual (called 'truscum'?! how outrageous and vile), or intersex. Not feeling like you belong, or even not belonging, is a difficult burden to carry through life. I think society should be more inclusive and supportive all round. But insisting biological differences between the sexes don't exist is absolute insanity!

And finally, I cannot stand the hypocrisy of how this activism seems to be entirely one way... of biological males demanding access to women's spaces. It is so fucking obviously driven by male privilege. Can you even imagine this much traction being made by biological females demanding access to male spaces and insisting they are literally men and should be treated as such? And 'men' as a collective class having to change the very definition of male to accommodate this? Any males voices wanting to discuss it or highlight concerns being bullied and vilified into silence? It is utterly inconceivable.

As the wonderful Caitlen Moran says - there is a very easy test as to whether something is sexist bullshit or not. Is it something that's also happening to or expected from men? If not... call BULLSHIT on it.

Oh my god I could rant about this for hours...

CisMyArse · 08/02/2018 17:39

One heartening thing to note is how many women are now engaged with this.
*
A couple of years ago any threads on Fem Chat about this were sparsely populated by a few posters and threads in AIBU and Chat turned into fights with the majority yelling bigot.
*
The ratios have changed. A lot.

Exactly what I was going to post - I remember a few years ago when I started to grow uneasy, any thread on Chat and even FWR on Trans issues, would go very badly indeed. The tide is certainly turning.

The Peak Trans threads on the Gender Critical sub on Reddit are just jaw dropping. They’re on number VI now (and counting). Well worth a read but best arm yourself with a stiff gin.

Can you hyperlink? I'm always looking out for material to read.

Me too. I would have been happier of one of the bog standard males won rather than someone who claimed to be on the spectrum of womanhood (he's a 3 or 4 apparently Hmm ) and mansplained feminism the whole way through the show.

Is being trans and competing in women's sport just a way for men who could never be at the top of men's sport get to be at the top of women's sport? Like some men have to win at any cost? Devious gits.

WitchIwasaWitch18 · 08/02/2018 17:59

Sorry but I really don't know what a terf is?

WitchIwasaWitch18 · 08/02/2018 18:00

But I think I may be one. Will I get my own changing room in Topshop?

Gacapa · 08/02/2018 18:04

I followed a MN AIBU post a while back about a man who dressed up as a woman to go on a hen night or something along those lines. And a really articulate poster started making all these great points about "apeing" women. It was fascinating. Then I came over to Feminism Chat and never looked back.

This place is truly outstanding and trail blazing. It contains much of the best feminist and gender critical writing on the internet.

Elderslie · 08/02/2018 18:07

Offred I believe. Amazing the way she calmly presented things factually but pointing out the reality of the situation.

Absolutely, Elderslie. Yes, I remember it was Offred now. I don't think it's an overestimation to say that thread was an epiphany for me. Her posts were revelatory.
