Just announced on their twitter and Facebook, Woman's Place UK are doing a meeting in London. If it's anything like the Bristol event it will sell out....

I agree Christina.

And I think you are far more talented than your reprobate brother Wink

MacaroonMama · 26/02/2018 11:36

Ok that sounds sensible christinarossetti I have already PMed sweetgrapes but will PM again and say not to worry. I think it is just the worry of going alone and facing nasty TRAs that makes us want to go with other Mumsnetters!

I may purchase some Pom bears though Smile and shake them at likely-looking women!

rb67 · 26/02/2018 11:46

When is the meeting being disclosed? It makes a difference what train I come in on. I hate the tube more than a load shouty wannabees.!

rb67 · 26/02/2018 11:50

Just checked email so OK
If people feel threatened or harassed please call police. It is what they're there for.

christinarossetti · 26/02/2018 12:00

Attendees will receive an email some time tomorrow.

If there are any protestors (very likely unfortunately), they'll be immediately outside the venue. If people feel nervous about walking past them alone, wait nearby for a moment or two and follow someone else in.

It's absolutely unbelievable that we need to be doing this in 2018 for a meeting to discuss legislative changes, but it's more important that the meeting goes ahead.

TheDayTheTerfStoodStill · 26/02/2018 15:03

Well said Christina

I'm sure if someone emailed the organisers and asked them to suggest a nearby pub for meet ups when they announce the venue, they would do that.

JaimesGoldenHand · 26/02/2018 15:31

Good point Christina. Will not bother with meet-up. Loved In the bleak Mindwinter btw.

Mumsnut · 26/02/2018 16:03

I'm suyre we can meet up afterwards for some liquor

Datun · 26/02/2018 16:12

I think beupstanding has the name of a pub. But she will have to be sure of who is asking, that's all.

It can't give away the venue, because we don't know where the venue is. It's just a central location.

LifelongVaginaOwner · 26/02/2018 16:18

I'm so angry about this. I messaged another mumsnetter about meeting up but all the time I'm paranoidly thinking "this could turn out to be a 20 stone docker in a frock". How the fuck did we get here? It's 2018 and we are having to meet in secret.

Datun · 26/02/2018 16:40

I agree. It's crazy.

And I don't want to advertently minimise any risk.

But, any transactivist can buy a ticket and go to the actual meeting.

There is no publicity to be had in intimidating women who are in a pub beforehand.

And they don't have to follow women to find out the venue. They just have to buy a ticket, like everyone else.

I suspect their main job will be to get the venue to pull out.

shedalight · 26/02/2018 16:44

It's like living in a totalitarian communist state with the thought police round every corner shutting down any dissent.

Geronimoleapinglizards · 26/02/2018 16:47

That's it isn't it? The tickets are cheap. Any TRA can buy one and find out the venue. You can't keep something like this a secret in reality, unless you restrict the meeting to a tiny number of people.

Have courage. Most people who threaten violence online are all hot air who have things in their life that they value enough not to want to risk losing them. I don't mean to minimise any aggressive acts which have previously been carried out, because one is obviously too many, but it's one thing to make a noise and be full of it online and quite another to actually be violent in person.

Catmint · 26/02/2018 17:43

Just popped in to wish you a great meeting, and looking forward to hearing all about it afterwards - the serious stuff of course, but also your experiences of sidling up to each other holding packs of naice ham...

TERFousBreakdown · 26/02/2018 17:49

I hope it's going to be a great, educational meeting for everyone who can attend - I wish I could but am unable to due to location & prior commitments.

Also, may I just point out how very, very uneasy I feel about the (completely legitimate!) discussion on here about how to stay safe while attending what is essentially a meeting of like-minded individuals on a topic of current political interest. I have friends who grew up in the Eastern Bloc who had politically active parents - the tactics described on here sound horribly like those used by clandestine underground movements in totalitarian states.

Have we really come to this? Because it's HORRIFYING!!!

BeUpStanding · 26/02/2018 19:33

I understand the concerns but to my mind the benefits of us meeting is worth it. Why should we let ourselves be scared into not meeting? And it poses no risk to the event organisers.

PM me if you want to know the name of the pub where some of us will meet beforehand. Let me know any Twitter or other social media profiles you have that I can check out.

Can't wait to meet you fabulous ladies! Grin

SweetGrapes · 26/02/2018 20:31

Agree with BeUpStanding

I have no idea where the venue is but will be meeting at a pub in a central place. It may or maynot be close to the venue. I have no idea. If you would like to meet up please do PM.

And as for the venue, the TRA's may have bought a ticket or two so may easily find out anyway.

RadicalFern · 26/02/2018 21:31

I will be wearing a badge that says "Cinnamon Rolls not Gender Rolls"

vaginafetishist · 26/02/2018 21:39

Arf

RadicalFern · 26/02/2018 21:53

That should obviously read “not gender roles”

RadicalFern · 26/02/2018 22:31

(This would be my Gender Rolls)

I got an email - thanks BeUpStanding - and am also horrified by our need for clandestine arrangements. I wish I could highlight this to my ex-friends (mostly leftwing right-on gay males) to show them what it is we're up against.

The weather might prevent me coming tomorrow - all hinges on whether the right sort of snow falls on the lines 🙄

Geronimoleapinglizards · 26/02/2018 23:38

Same here. I love the snow but it might seriously scupper my plans

JenniferJames · 27/02/2018 00:50

Can't wait for this event! Coincides with my 'suspension' interview at Labour HQ, so am in London. Hopefully will meet some of you there, come say hi MMers.
Jen xx

JenniferJames · 27/02/2018 00:54

I'm in a group of five or six going in... inc. a former prison officer and my fella who is built like a brick outhouse. If you see us... come over an we'll go in together.

I will be the one smoking outside the door like it's going out of fashion.
