Great article by Meghan Murphy which covers everything.

CAAKE · 03/02/2018 08:39

They probably have seen the video, but everyone is being told what to say and what to think, how to posture themselves so as to appear to be in the right side. It's fucked.

AngryAttackKittens · 03/02/2018 08:40

I'm at the point where I feel like if they're going to label us as witches anyway we might as well respond to the appearance of dudes like the one who verbally attacked McGowan in spaces where they're clearly there to cause trouble with "by the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes".

Ledkr · 03/02/2018 08:40

vesuvia thanks for those stats. I was going to ask if anyone had any.
Can someone post them on twitter to illustrate the ridiculousness of those claims.
I was totally clueless until I looked into it all and now I'm bloody furious/scared and wondering what my two daughters have to face.
The thing is, most people are not bigots and would not discriminate against trans and be very accepting but they have created a problem which was barely there Shock

AngryAttackKittens · 03/02/2018 08:41

Also misogyny leads to a lot of people perceiving any sign of anger from a woman as incredibly aggressive, whereas the same level of anger from a man would be unremarkable. Women aren't supposed to get angry, it's a violation of the "be everyone's mummy" social contract that we were enrolled in without our consent at birth.

Ereshkigal · 03/02/2018 08:42

From the dreadful Katelyn Burns article:

KB Did you go to the event with the intent of confronting her on her transphobia or was it more spur of the moment? What was going through your mind when you first spoke?

AD I've done this before with Bernie Sanders.rs.*_ This was planned. But only because I happened to be canvassing with Working Families Party in front of the same Barnes & Noble earlier that day. It felt like a sign. What she said has been gnawing at me for months. And I was really scared. I almost backed down. It is only my trauma and bipolar that lets me feel a level of emotion I cannot ignore. I knew the audience was going to turn against me, too.^

Ereshkigal · 03/02/2018 08:43

How sad for him that he found bullying a rape victim triggering.

YY. People are so shocked by her anger. I'd be fucking angry too. It was righteous anger.

AngryAttackKittens · 03/02/2018 08:47

She's had 2 decades of this shit from men. Of course she's fucking angry.

LangCleg · 03/02/2018 08:48

In the video, that hideous bloke actually says It's like the AIDS crisis all over again. How utterly, utterly disgraceful. I'm old enough to remember the AIDS crisis in all its horrific detail. A friend of mine from those days died, FFS. We all took turns in sitting with him so that his parents could look after him and still hold down their jobs. How dare he?

Why am I not surprised to find he's a paedo to boot?

hazeyjane · 03/02/2018 08:49

www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/rose-mcgowan-transgender-woman-shouts-barnes-noble-book-event-a8191431.html

Jeez, this is being framed as RM shouting at a poor transgender woman.

CAAKE · 03/02/2018 08:49

*on

AngryAttackKittens · 03/02/2018 08:52

There's a photo of the Gay Men's Chorus in San Francisco where you can see the surviving members, post AIDS crisis. The men in white are the survivors. 7 of them.

How dare this spiteful, selfish, predatory heterosexual man attempt to appropriate a tragedy that he'd have sailed through totally unscathed?

BiologyMatters · 03/02/2018 09:19

So her appearance at another venue has been cancelled because of her public behaviour?

THIS IS FUCKING BULLSHIT! AngryAngryAngry

wrappedupinmyselflikeaspool · 03/02/2018 09:27

She was magnificent. I’m a rape survivor who is often out in public talking about it. “Step the fuck back” indeed.

For those who say she was too angry. I don’t think you can be too angry. What did she do? She didn’t hit anyone. She stood up for herself. I imagine she is exhausted from talking about it. I have to keep it to a minimum so it doesn’t get too much for me. Good for Rose, more power to her. Anyone who doesn’t like what she has to say has the choice to not go and hear it, or to sit the F down and step the F back.

I hope she reads this board

Datun · 03/02/2018 09:51

I hope she reads this board

So do I.

A shout out to Rose McGowan.

The largest forum on the UK (mostly) populated by women are behind you.

We get it. All of it.

AngryAttackKittens · 03/02/2018 09:53

And it's OK to be angry, confused, sad, whatever else it is that Rose happens to feel at any given moment. Women are allowed to be human.

BiologyMatters · 03/02/2018 10:06

That article makes no mention of the man's breakdown does it. Rose was far more controlled than him.

GrooovyLass · 03/02/2018 10:11

Well I've just commented on the Independent's fb article about this - the first time I've stuck my head above the parapet.

athingthateveryoneneeds · 03/02/2018 10:18

That article makes no mention of the man's breakdown does it. Rose was far more controlled than him.

I've never seen the word "breakdown" being used to describe a man. I think it's a heavily gendered term.

AngryAttackKittens · 03/02/2018 10:20

In a way that's giving him more credit than he deserves, though - that confrontation was engineered to make a point, and any oh poor me commentary after the fact is lies. He got exactly what he was looking for.

TheNerevarine · 03/02/2018 10:29

Ahem. Apologies if this has already been posted but it seems kinda relevant:

gendertrender.wordpress.com/2018/02/02/transwoman-who-heckled-rose-mcgowan-is-a-known-sexual-predator-claim-women/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

TheNerevarine · 03/02/2018 10:44

Also having taken a quick glance at Rose McGowan's book on Amazon pretty sure I'll be reading that.

Collidascope · 03/02/2018 10:50

That article makes no mention of the man's breakdown does it. Rose was far more controlled than him.

Exactly. Proving they see him as a man, who is allowed to show rage. Any woman coming out with the shit he was bellowing would be hysterical/irrational/unhinged/aggressive/a bitch etc.

NaturalWoman · 03/02/2018 11:36

Yes. I think that the lack of focus on his behaviour is the most telling in all of it. It wasn't exactly presented as a 'cat foght', was it? As it would have been if Rose had been arguing with a woman; where both of their behaviours would have been called into question.

The more they argue against women, the more they reveal themselves to be the misigynistic, abusive men they are.

More and more people are reaching peak trans. The number of people posting on mn who are here because they've finally got it is increasing.

Give them enough rope and they will indeed hang themselves. There are going to be some very foolish looking high profile people when this all finally falls apart.

Let's just hope that happens before they have done irreversible damage.
