While I don't think that men with working penises have a place in a woman's prison, and I have no idea on this persons penis status, I think that putting someone who looks like this in a male prison is just asking for trouble.

I find the ministry of justice stance most heartening.

QueenLaBeefah · 20/01/2018 13:02

They really need to open a facility for trans people.

NotTerfNorCis · 20/01/2018 13:03

That individual could be put into the vulnerable prisoners' wing of a male prison.

They forgot to mention Tara's history of violent crime and peddling of their seven-inch surprise on sex sites.

I think a specific trans facility is the only answer really, Queen.

Thehairthebod · 20/01/2018 13:06

Well for starters if Tara Hudson doesn't want to be subjected to abuse in a male prison they could try staying out of prison by not partaking in violent behaviour? But that's by the by I suppose.

Tara does (or did at least) have a penis - wasn't she the one with the 'seven inch surprise'?

I don't know why there can't just be a trans wing in male prisons? Or just a trans prison? I really don't get it?

One thing I am sure of though is that people like Tara Hudson have no business being in female prisons.

Lancelottie · 20/01/2018 13:06

That’s someone who is socially and genetically male, committed eight offenses including battery and was regarded as worryingly violent. Nah, not seeing the case for moving them to a women’s facility, other than a cosmetic one.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 20/01/2018 13:06

They state Hudson “is as a matter of biological fact a man” and add that the term “transwoman” has no legal significance. They say they have adopted female pronouns when referring to Hudson only “out of respect for her wishes

glenthebattleostrich · 20/01/2018 13:06

That is a heartening response.

Turning yourself into a parody of a woman doesn't give you a (literal) get out of jail free card for carrying out a violent attack. If you don't want to go to a male prison, perhaps don't go around headbutting people.

Also, is this the person who demanded to be moved to a women's prison despite having a '7 inch surprise'?

Bellamuerte · 20/01/2018 13:07

Imo if you do something that deserves a prison sentence, then whatever happens to you in prison is your own fault.

SimonBridges · 20/01/2018 13:07

I agree Queen
Or even turn two wings of current prisons into trans prisons. Keep them separate from everyone else to stop problems like this.
But then would you have transmen in one and transwomen in the other? If you did you would still have people with penises and people with vaginas sharing a space.

Dozer · 20/01/2018 13:10

The article says Tara was moved to a womens prison after 7 days.

badbadhusky · 20/01/2018 13:11

If Tara has been living as woman for the entirety of their adult life & has taken hormone therapy, they are more than qualified to apply for a GRC which would afford them legal status as a woman and the protections that go with it. If Tara can afford breast augmentation, surely Tara can also run to the cost of a GRC application. This feels like trying to force the self-ID argument through by the back door.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 20/01/2018 13:11

They really need to open a facility for trans people

Absolutely. That solves the problem of TIMs being vulnerable to transphobic male violence in men's prisons without the cost of making women vulnerable to misogynistic violence from TIMs in women's prisons.

Perhaps there should be some effort to sort out violent and dehumanising behaviour in men's prisons on a more general level. If TIMs aren't fair game for poor treatment in a men's prison then why is anyone?

InfiniteSheldon · 20/01/2018 13:11

Women prisoners deserve to be protected from him. Her is a pronoun used politely and should be withdrawn where it causes a conflict of interest:: extreme violence and boasting about your penis don't really work in a woman's prison.

Elendon · 20/01/2018 13:12

No thought of the women in the women's jail who may be traumatised over their being there.

Love the response by the MOD. In Ireland, were GR self ID exists, this specifically excludes biological men in women's prisons, amongst other caveats.

Tara Hudson is not a woman.

IrkThePurist · 20/01/2018 13:14

The only sensible, working solution is to separate prisoners by biological sex and risk. Which they already do, as far as the facilities allow.
If there's a need for a separate trans wing then trans people might have to make a compromise and accept they may be housed a long way from their home town, just as women are.

I dont agree that some people deserve everything they get, its not compatible with a civilised society.

Glitterypinksoap · 20/01/2018 13:21

Completely support trans specific prisons, and y y to two current wings being re designated. Properly trans informed medical support and MH care can also then be attached. Safe, dignified and specific provision for those who need it - try imagining Jazz Jennings in a male provision - and this would discourage piss takers who merely want access to women, while protecting vulnerable women in women's prisons. Far fewer men would self identify. Choice involved as appropriate, as many trans men will prefer to stay in women's provisions, and some trans women may prefer to stay in mens provisions.

HeyRoly · 20/01/2018 13:40

I find it very interesting that the Guardian pieces mentions Tara's silicone breasts but not her penis.

SimonBridges · 20/01/2018 13:48

In fairness Hey you can hardly miss her comedy man's idea of breasts.

No thought of the women in the women's jail who may be traumatised over their being there.
This is it though. Who cares about the women and this clearly violent penis owner being allowed to shower and share a cell with them.
I give not a shit if this person is attracted to men not women. No women should be forced to share a cell with a penis.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 20/01/2018 13:49

Hate to be catty, but those breasts :(

They don't look real.

I've had a crap week, but even if she did pay for them I really baulk at the idea of a medical professional thinking it ethical to provide them.

TheweewitchRoz · 20/01/2018 13:50

Completely agree Simon.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 20/01/2018 13:52

WEP tweeted in support of Tara Hudson back in 2015. MN feminists really hoped it was a mistake but when Sophie Walker finally responded, it was along the lines of "a woman is anyone who identifies as one, you nasty bigots".

And the FWR-WEP relationship just went downhill from there.

EamonnWright · 20/01/2018 13:59

Why are people pandering so much to violent criminals? Although that's the best response from Government I've seen.

Elendon · 20/01/2018 14:02

Hudson's breasts look painful.
