LP Women's Officer trying to get women ejected from LP!

Liam's first motion as women's officer is to get all women who point out he's a bloke (AKA "horrific transphobic abuse") expelled from the party. He's written this right after being rejected for the Jo Cox Programme.

I’ve written this motion against transphobia in the Labour Party. It would be great if members could propose the motion at their CLPs. Hopefully, we can get tougher rules enforced at annual conference. Please share 🌹

Transphobic Abuse in the Labour Party
Proposer: Lily Madigan
Seconder: X
Originally proposed by Lily Madigan

This Constituency Labour Party is disappointed at the sheer scale of transphobic abuse that is rampant among the ranks of the Labour Party, in particular from elected officers. Recently, we’ve seen an onslaught of transphobic abuse from members through social media, largely against trans members including young trans women. For a party that continues to fight for a just society, it is unthinkable that we allow any abusive behaviour in our ranks, in our elected officers, and government officials. As such, transphobic abuse should not be tolerated from Labour Party members.

This Constituency Labour Party notes that transgender and non-gender-conforming individuals are more likely to face abuse and this can lead to mental health problems, as shown by the Stonewall School Report 2017, which states that 45% of transgender pupils in UK schools have attempted to take their own life. This report shows that transgender individuals are at risk of abuse throughout their lives, and the Labour Party should not allow its members to partake in such abusive behaviour, in accordance with its aim of creating a just society.

This Constituency Labour Party believes that transphobic abuse should be seen as grounds for expulsion from the Labour Party, and that the Labour Party should commit to furthering transgender inclusivity in policy and the Labour Party itself. Therefore, if this motion is accepted, the Labour Party rules should be amended to make transphobic abuse grounds for expulsion, and that complaints regarding the behaviour of an elected officer of a Constituency Labour Party should be accepted from any individual, and should be sent to the Regional Labour Party to be dealt with.

We further believe that trans men are men, and trans women are women and as such should have equal access with cis counterparts to stand for, and participate with, all party programmes and roles within the Party and in government. This includes but is not restricted to allowing trans women equal consideration for all-women shortlists, officer elections and programmes aiding women such as the Jo Cox women in leadership programme."

He's clearly throwing a tantrum about being denied the Jo Cox and about this legal challenge to Labour:

So Sophie is not a transexual?

Fekko · 18/01/2018 18:57

I dont know what the hell anyone is these days.

thebewilderness · 18/01/2018 19:14

Most AGPs like Madigan are authoritarians putting on public displays of male dominance.

Popchyk · 18/01/2018 20:49

What do you mean by transsexual, Ekphrasis? Wink

Sophie said they had an "epiphany" in January 2015. At age 48 and called Steve. With three children.

Sophie has said they don't have a GRC and backs self-identification.

Just checking, half asleep!

Epiphany or 'spotted an easy way to break through and get noticed'?!

Ekphrasis · 18/01/2018 21:04

Is Sophie hoping to transition?

After reading a bit it seems there was a lot of deep unhappiness in 'being a man'. I feel I understand IW much more than someone like Sophie.

Popchyk · 18/01/2018 21:30

I don't know if Sophie intends to transition, whatever the hell that means these days.

I do wonder quite how unhappy these people really are who build careers and keep getting married and having children. Steve managed to build a career in the RAF and in official football club photography and had two marriages and three children. Bruce Jenner managed to be very successful and have lots of children while being utterly unhappy at being a man.

That's men for you, though, they just keep powering on through their abject misery. An inspiration to us all.

thebewilderness · 18/01/2018 22:36

I expect that what we are seeing is hundreds of AGP fetishist men coming out of the closet now that they are covered by the trans umbrella.

OlennasWimple · 18/01/2018 23:14

Grin at Popchyk

They're so brave, aren't they?

SweetGrapes · 19/01/2018 06:18

So, if Sophie doesn't have a GRC , they is legally a man and not eligible for the Jo Cox program. Is that right?
A look at the birth certificate and drivers license should clear that up. No need to be tranphobic and ask for a GRC.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 19/01/2018 08:03

You can change drivers license /passport etc without a GRC - birth certificate would work though.

badbadhusky · 19/01/2018 08:22

It still doesn’t help with roles providing personal care or intimate examination. What do we do then? DNA test new hires?

Happy to be corrected by I think the crowd funder success statement said that the GRC wasn't yet being applied to other areas? Ie, self id was starting to be used despite being illegal.

Ekphrasis · 19/01/2018 08:53

In labour I mean.

Oliversmumsarmy · 19/01/2018 09:07

We further believe that trans men are men, and trans women are women and as such should have equal access with cis counterparts

Surely if someone is distinguishing between women and cis women (hate the word cis) they are realising that they are not real women and so should count themselves out of any women's only short lists, events etc as "Women" in these cases means those that were actually born female, so men in dresses needn't apply

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 19/01/2018 09:11

What’s TIM abbrevetion stands for?

CunningOperative · 19/01/2018 09:16

Trans Identifying Male

Datun · 19/01/2018 09:17

Trans identified male.

Useful, because it covers whether they identify as a woman, gender fluid, or non-binary.

Because as far as women are concerned, they can identify as a hamster but it's only the male part that matters.

And it also stops them appropriating the word woman.

As an aside, anyone else think that Sophie shows a startling resemblance to Ozzy Ozbourne?

EamonnWright · 19/01/2018 09:47

How entitled is he. The system must change to suit my life choices!

Fekko · 19/01/2018 10:15

Sounds like access to the best of all worlds really. Minimum effort required.

SweetGrapes · 19/01/2018 10:19

Hmm so if Sophie has passport and DL showing them to be female, how does it work?
I needed my birth certificate to get my passport. Could I have just ticked 'Male' and that would be fine?

DodoPatrol · 19/01/2018 10:50

The trouble with TIM is it depends where you put the punctuation.
Trans-identified male, yes.
Trans, identifying male... suggests a transman.

Anyhow - to my mind, it's still (almost) all about consent, with a side helping of 'that's not the disadvantage that was meant to be addressed here, you doofus'.

Consent - about who gets a look at or feel of your naked or partially dressed body -- is what affects personal care, medical help, shared rooms, Guide camp, toddler swimming, changing rooms, sexual relationships. All fine to be mixed sex IF you know that's the case and are happy to consent to it.

Not You You Doofus is what affects sport, single-sex STEM programmes, All-Women shortlists, the pussy march, campaigns around abortion and menopause and maternity leave and pregnancy risks and periods and FGM and (often) childcare, sexist assumptions, rape and pay gaps.

Siiiighh.

Yes, of course. I just say TIM and give little thought to 'I'. But you're right.

As is the rest of your post. That distinction is very incisive.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 19/01/2018 12:32

THAnks! I was thinking Trans Into Male but that would be spectacularly missing the point Grin
