Liam's first motion as women's officer is to get all women who point out he's a bloke (AKA "horrific transphobic abuse") expelled from the party. He's written this right after being rejected for the Jo Cox Programme.

I’ve written this motion against transphobia in the Labour Party. It would be great if members could propose the motion at their CLPs. Hopefully, we can get tougher rules enforced at annual conference. Please share 🌹

Transphobic Abuse in the Labour Party
Proposer: Lily Madigan
Seconder: X
Originally proposed by Lily Madigan

This Constituency Labour Party is disappointed at the sheer scale of transphobic abuse that is rampant among the ranks of the Labour Party, in particular from elected officers. Recently, we’ve seen an onslaught of transphobic abuse from members through social media, largely against trans members including young trans women. For a party that continues to fight for a just society, it is unthinkable that we allow any abusive behaviour in our ranks, in our elected officers, and government officials. As such, transphobic abuse should not be tolerated from Labour Party members.

This Constituency Labour Party notes that transgender and non-gender-conforming individuals are more likely to face abuse and this can lead to mental health problems, as shown by the Stonewall School Report 2017, which states that 45% of transgender pupils in UK schools have attempted to take their own life. This report shows that transgender individuals are at risk of abuse throughout their lives, and the Labour Party should not allow its members to partake in such abusive behaviour, in accordance with its aim of creating a just society.

This Constituency Labour Party believes that transphobic abuse should be seen as grounds for expulsion from the Labour Party, and that the Labour Party should commit to furthering transgender inclusivity in policy and the Labour Party itself. Therefore, if this motion is accepted, the Labour Party rules should be amended to make transphobic abuse grounds for expulsion, and that complaints regarding the behaviour of an elected officer of a Constituency Labour Party should be accepted from any individual, and should be sent to the Regional Labour Party to be dealt with.

We further believe that trans men are men, and trans women are women and as such should have equal access with cis counterparts to stand for, and participate with, all party programmes and roles within the Party and in government. This includes but is not restricted to allowing trans women equal consideration for all-women shortlists, officer elections and programmes aiding women such as the Jo Cox women in leadership programme."

He's clearly throwing a tantrum about being denied the Jo Cox and about this legal challenge to Labour:

I think it's an unpaid position?

But I'm not seeing much in the way of meeting the spec:

  • Working to recruit more women into the Labour party and helping to make sure that women members make the jump from member to activist.
  • Listening to women’s views and ensuring that they are reflected in Labour’s policy making.
-Actively encouraging women to contribute to discussions

...unless you mean exclusively transwomen in each of the above.

Lily Madigan is not paid nor salaried in their position as a women's officer. It is an entirely voluntary post like the chair or vice chair of the party. It is a local constituency Labour Party post. CLP.

BeeInMyBonnet1985 · 16/01/2018 13:59

I'm relieved to hear that he's not being paid, but even as a volunteer he doesn't actually seem to be doing much unless it's in his particular interest as a transwoman. I volunteer (not in politics) and I'm still expected to...you know, do stuff. I'm astonished that his co-workers aren't having a quiet word with him to get him to pull his finger out.

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/01/2018 14:02

All his followers are all still "go lily"

Yet there must be things they would like talked about?

Even if something is voluntary surely you still have you do the job?

I couldn't volunteer in a charity shop then refuse to serve customers

Elendon · 16/01/2018 14:02

In reply to some tweets Lily has said this:

It’s clear Labour isn’t doing enough to tackle transmisogyny in the Party. They need to do better.

So clearly Lily isn't really all that happy with Labour at the moment.

Elendon · 16/01/2018 14:03

Lily doesn't have co workers! Lily is a student and a women's officer.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 16/01/2018 14:04

It’s clear Labour isn’t doing enough to tackle transmisogyny in the Party. They need to do better

Can Lily tell the difference between 'not giving Lily what Lily wants when Lily stamps Lily's pink shod foot' and 'transmisogyny'?

SuburbanRhonda · 16/01/2018 14:05

It’s clear Labour isn’t doing enough to tackle transmisogyny in the Party. They need to do better.

So how does Lily propose to change that? Could Lily perhaps use some of that spectacular talent to draw up an action plan?

Elendon · 16/01/2018 14:06

Lily needs to start crowdfunding to bring about legal action to stamp out transmisogyny (whatever that is) within the Labour Party . I would not be surprised if this actually did happen.

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/01/2018 14:10

Hopefully he's finally pissed them all off with eradicating half the dictionary as transohobic hate speak.

Eitger that or they forgot to give them a link cup in the meetings?

SuburbanRhonda · 16/01/2018 14:12

Lily hasn’t had a great deal of success with crowdfunding iirc.

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/01/2018 14:13

Someone's calling him out now on discrimination of non binary people as they arent included in the proposition Grin

BeeInMyBonnet1985 · 16/01/2018 14:21

Lily doesn't have co workers! Lily is a student and a women's officer.

Nobody works in isolation. Even as a volunteer womans officer, he must report to someone, work with other Labour reps and volunteers etc. Someone out there must be in a position where they can drop a hint to him...he's drawing a lot of controversy to the party for one student volunteer.

Elendon · 16/01/2018 14:23

But will they? Would you?

I mean I wouldn't personally because I may say something wrong and bring about upset.

SuburbanRhonda · 16/01/2018 14:34

Obviously there’s a difference between taking Lily to one side and telling Lily to stop being such a monumental twat, and giving some advice about putting the Labour Party, not Lily, at the centre of everything Lily says.

There must be someone with intelligence who can see what harm this could do to the Party’s chances of becoming electable.

BeeInMyBonnet1985 · 16/01/2018 14:36

Of course I would say something to him. I used to work in a team leader role, and I've had to have embarrassing conversations with people about things like personal hygiene, swearing, telling inappropriate jokes at work etc. You have to manage these things in any public facing role. I'd never be rude or personal with them, but yes, professional standards are expected in any role (even voluntary roles). Lily/Liam's job is to represent Labour women, but he's instead drawing controversy to the party by focusing almost exclusively on trans issues. I'd certainly be talking to him about it if I were working with him - it won't do him any favours to pretend that there's not a problem in the kind of attention that he's generating.

Elendon · 16/01/2018 14:50

I wouldn't and I've been a women's officer within a CLP. It's not worth the hassle. (I did have to act swiftly regarding an issue involving a member who was male and was happy to do my bit, but no one in the CLP took any notice - I did have the support of the town clerk - town council issue - just a note LM is not even a town councillor and has never stood for public election).

I have had to have frank talks with people I work with, but that is totally different.

JessicaEccles · 16/01/2018 15:15

I wouldn't either- and I have been an officer within a CLP where I was being stalked and bullied. None of the other officials really gave a shit. And with something potentially so inflammatory, and politicians desperate to appear Down with The Yoof- they'd just hang you out to dry.

Thermostatpolice · 16/01/2018 16:13

Lily would make an appropriate trans youth officer (if such a thing exists). I have no idea how we're in a situation where Lily represents women. It's something that Lily is in no way qualified or experienced enough to do. It's very sad.

Ereshkigal · 16/01/2018 16:35

Lily was perfectly able to apply to the vacant LGBT officer position. Lily did not. Lily chose to apply to be Women's Officer, after conducting a campaign of harassment against a different Women's Officer in a nearby CLP.

Glitterypinksoap · 16/01/2018 16:54

If anyone is on Twitter Jess Phillips is getting nagged by TRAs to denounce the fundraising for legal challenge as hatred: basically they are demanding that she say transwomen are women or come out to be lynched.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 16/01/2018 18:34

I cannot see why they don't realise that that's a very dangerous game. Jess Phillips is very influential. Her voice would make all the difference in getting people to see that the GRA is a pile of shit. And it's just possible that bullying someone on twitter isn't the best way to get them to wholeheartedly support your cause...

Elendon · 16/01/2018 18:45

Jess Philips has always advocated for more women in Parliament since her election in 2015.

She didn't win favours though. I'm thinking she is being specifically targeted.

DoctorTwo · 16/01/2018 19:41

I would like to congratulate this person on gaining that extra X chromosome. Well done Lily! Hope your ovaries are ok.

Fekko · 16/01/2018 19:47

So a silly wee boy is ... arghhhh I can’t even finish that sentence.

‘Silly wee boy’ suffices...
