The comments under the sky news article on Facebook (mostly men) were pretty clear they thought Lily was a mental health disorder. Lily is doing trans woman an even bigger disservice than she's doing woman.

I was listening to the Dan Snow thing on R4 earlier, which has recordings of men who fought in the First World War. It's very moving and it struck me that lots of them would have been the same age as Lily and I had a real flash of rage at how self-centred she is.

I would have a lot more respect for her if she said in an interview: "All this attention on me is taking attention away from the issues. Let's talk about the massive threat to funding for women's refuges that's being debated in parliament this week..."

Another toe-curlingly embarassing interview there. I liked the phrasing from the interviewer, though, on the suggestions that LM couldn't be a women's officer as "she hadn't been a woman since birth"

I know that it's technically incorrect (little babies are girls, not women) but it seems a good way to talk about the issue without getting into "cis" or "natal" or accused of TERF-iness

LM isn't the very first trans person to hold a party political position, though. Annoyingly this Wiki page has been conflated to be the first LGBT post holders in the UK, but the first out trans councillor was way back in 1997

Exactly! Even if she had gone for the LGBT officer post and done a good job, people would have fewer issues. But to go for the Women’s Officer post (having hounded the WO in a neighbouring constituency out of a job) and spend so much time grandstanding, is distasteful.

I can’t see any way it can end well for her or the party. She’ll either be martyred or disgraced.

I think he'll find that the majority of women DO have the same experiences (catcalling, other forms of harassment, menstruation, pregnancy, daily misogyny etc).
He's not giving a different female perspective in politics, he is shitting all over women's issues with a male view. What the fuck does he know about being a woman?? The whole point of the job is not to represent trans people because this is a woman's position about representation of women. Shame on you Labour Party.
