I think that was was pretty much the conversation.

BossyBitch · 11/12/2017 17:41

Also ... ETA. I actually had to go on Twitter and check that pregnancy tweet myself. There are statements so utterly moronic that I refuse to take a second hand account as factual.

Conclusion: I shouldn't have. My faith in human rationality is in tailspin!

Seriously, though, WHAT?!? Confused

MadgeMidgerson · 11/12/2017 17:42

Do you know it just occurred to me

Since there is nothing that women have in common in terms of their experiences of being a woman (apparently), it is logically consistent then that anyone claiming to be a woman can be representative

In fact, since there are no defining woman experiences, any woman will thus have little in common with any other woman- why even have a woman represent us at all?

Maybe the best woman for a woman’s officer role is a man, or an ocelot, or a carrot

why ever not

PersianCatLady · 11/12/2017 17:46

How on Earth can the Labour Party continue to allow this?

A teenage boy who claims that he can get pregnant to be women's officer??

Fekko · 11/12/2017 17:48

If that happens I'll eat my hat

cafeaulaitpourvous · 11/12/2017 17:51

He will say someone has hacked his account.....I bet ya

Datun · 11/12/2017 17:55

MadgeMidgerson

Well that is the exact argument. As no two women’s experience are identical, a man is just another type of woman, with a different sort of womanly experience.

It’s complete erasure. Of what it means to be a woman. It is.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/12/2017 17:56

Do you know, if he gets pregnant I will stand down. Promise

WTAFisthisshit · 11/12/2017 17:57

Shitting hell does he actually believe he can get pregnant???

I swing between thinking he's incredibly thick and feeling sorry for him to thinking he's a total liar!!!

Snigger

RadicalFern · 11/12/2017 18:10

This wilful ignoring of biology is remarkable. Not just Lily but all the sex-is-a-state-of-mind nutters. It's the equivalent of sticking fingers in the ears and yelling "lalala not listening I can't hear you!"

MadgeMidgerson · 11/12/2017 18:20

We need to read more than biology 101 apparently

In any case, perhaps pregnant means other things beyond gestating a fetid, for instance, it might also mean ‘I feel nauseated’

Reading all the doublethink has certainly made me pregnant Confused

NotAgainYoda · 11/12/2017 18:24

Lily says infer when he means imply

WhoWants2Know · 11/12/2017 18:26

This is the response to someone who asked what she plans to do to represent women. Apparently her CLP know, so the rest of us don’t need to.

Madge, frankly I'm beginning to think if anyone put a carrot up for election in pretty much any job in my CLP I'd vote for it, because it couldn't do a worse job than this bunch of clowns.

Fekko · 11/12/2017 18:27

What's clp? (And I want the real meaning please!)

Weezol · 11/12/2017 18:27

takes deep breath and hopes not to ramble incoherently
Hello all. This is my first post.
I have been reading the feminism threads here for a while, and I am so glad I found MN.
Elsewhere on the internet I have been too scared to post as friends have experienced pile ons and TERF abuse and I'm not risking that.

Thank you for providing somewhere rational for me to be. I really had got to the point where I was just despairing of the whole TRA situation and shouting 'But...but...science' in my head.

Deciding in March that you are now a woman then actively discriminating against women and seeking to push them out of hard earned roles four months later is such spectacularly male privileged behaviour I don't know what to do in response.

NotAgainYoda · 11/12/2017 18:29

Enough with the kissing, Lily. You aren't 12

Fekko

Constituency Labour Party

Fekko · 11/12/2017 18:30

I'd give him 2 minutes with my late mother. She was pretty much a traditional housewife but has some very strong views on gender issues which she wouldn't have called feminism (which was a bad word back in the day) - having a pack of daughters helped there.

Datun · 11/12/2017 18:33

Welcome Weezol! Have a Wine.

Fekko · 11/12/2017 18:36

Actually dad would have had a field day with this too. He was involved in the Labour Party until he died.

FattyCat · 11/12/2017 18:36

Weezol

Continue to take deep breaths as they are needed amongst this shite.

And mumsnet seems to be one of the few places women's voices are being heard on this. I'm fairly new hear myself but it seems friendly here Smile

FattyCat · 11/12/2017 18:38

And as I said hear instead of here I clearly have no education or understanding of grammar Blush

Also my autocorrect is shite

hackmum · 11/12/2017 18:41

So, Lily is a full-time student and has three jobs and a role as a women's officer for the Rochester and Strood Constituency Labour Party. Lily is also, apparently, Women's Officer, LGBTQ+ Officer and Campus Executive Officer for the University for the Creative Arts students union.

Am amazed at how Lily finds the time to tweet and do all those media interviews.
