Do you think some of the driver for "a woman is anyone who says they are a woman" is to do with bad science teaching in the US?

Just reading this thread on Reddit and loads of the posts are very scientifically naive. I can't decide if posters are being disingenuous or are just very uneducated about basic science.
It got me wondering whether the American thing of teaching creationism as equally valid a theory as evolution has generally undermined science and critical thinking.

I want to change my user name to "Santa denier".

FerdinandsRevenge · 07/04/2017 14:41

Do you define anatomy as biological sex? Penis = men? Or does surgery invalidate everything, is it 'not a real penis'?

Of course, that's how I define it. That's literally how the word has always been identified. Cut a man's dick off an he is still a man as his chromosomes say he is as well.

Put a plastic penis substitute on and it's still not a penis. The way the above is not really a leg. Or Quorn is not really chicken.

There are no other options what the hell are you talking about? Children don't get to make irreversible medical decisions? This is what I mean by saying you're all uninformed.

Says the girl in five years time when she sues her doctor for sterilising her at 12 years old in a Welsh gender clinic.

venusinscorpio · 07/04/2017 14:42

Children don't get to make irreversible medical decisions?

But you are advocating that they should. You are trying to scare parents with emotionally manipulative propaganda and specious arguments.

FerdinandsRevenge · 07/04/2017 14:42

Don't be a Santa Denier!

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 07/04/2017 14:43

It's going to happen whether you like it or not

Sounds like the type of phrase Trump supporters (or Brexiters for that matter) we're coming out with post election - just an indication of the ridiculousness of your words SSR.

You really are getting annihilated by fact and logic here - it's almost painful to watch.

QuentinSummers · 07/04/2017 14:43

SSR you are actually proving your point.
A man with his penis removed is still a man. Penis is a male characteristic - everyone with a penis is a man, whether or not it is later removed.
It's like claiming that cutting a lions mane off turns it into a lioness. No - it's still a lion, just one with no mane Confused

Thanks for your input, you just proved me wrong sad where's my noose?

FFS

venusinscorpio · 07/04/2017 14:43

You are saying that parents should not do what they personally feel is best.

SSR24479 · 07/04/2017 14:43

And if his chromosomes don't?

The penises aren't plastic either, you really have no idea what you're talking about do you?

QuentinSummers · 07/04/2017 14:44

Proving my point that should say. Either you're uneducated, stupid or disingenuous.

It's certainly enlivened my afternoon.

I just wish it was in AIBU.

All the anger, insults, cries of TERF. It would be a gift.

venusinscorpio · 07/04/2017 14:46

LOL do you know what that word means?

GahBuggerit · 07/04/2017 14:46

I think its mentally abusive to lie to your child by allowing them to believe they can be something they cannot. Unbelievably cruel to treat them as fools Sad

If my DC said they were trans I'd have a long talk about why they feel that way, and no doubt find its because some arsehole said it's because they liked pink or some bollocks like that. I'd gently tell them they can't be a girl, because they are born males, and people and animals can't change what they biologically are, but if they wanted to wear pink, a dress, makeup then fine, here's my makeup bag, go nuts kid.

FerdinandsRevenge · 07/04/2017 14:47

An actual dick transplant would t make a woman a man. The way a hole is not a vagina.

Datun · 07/04/2017 14:47

you absolute fucking nonce.

Please, please no one report it. Please. What's that saying...?

I thought you weren't going to respond to me?

Your masculinity is defined by the thing between your legs? Seems like a personal issue.

Datun · 07/04/2017 14:48

Please don't anyone report any of this. It's gold.

WhereYouLeftIt · 07/04/2017 14:48

Loathe as I am to acknowledge SSR24479 (because I think their gender is 'goady fucker' - I'll bet that is listed on Everyday Feminism as a gender, everything else is), I have been drawn in by "Define what 'changing biological sex' is.".

It is impossible. Totally impossible. From the instant of conception, your sex is unchangeable. Gender is socially constructed, so yeah, change away. But - gender is not sex.

A brunette remains a brunette however much they dye their hair blonde. They may take on the appearance of being blonde. But they are still brunette.

SSR24479 · 07/04/2017 14:50

It's comedy gold that's for sure datun
Is a lion's masculinity defined by his mane? If you cut it off, does he turn into a lion? Like Sampson and his hair. Strange religious parallels going on.....

Projection much?

jellyfrizz · 07/04/2017 14:53

You're confusing gender and sex.

Gender = masculine/ feminine / load of old bollocks societal stereotypes about who likes pink and is good at maths and reading maps.
