Do you think some of the driver for "a woman is anyone who says they are a woman" is to do with bad science teaching in the US?

Just reading this thread on Reddit and loads of the posts are very scientifically naive. I can't decide if posters are being disingenuous or are just very uneducated about basic science.
It got me wondering whether the American thing of teaching creationism as equally valid a theory as evolution has generally undermined science and critical thinking.

Well. Yeah. Biology as in genitals or chromosomes? Because neither are a certain definition, as we've established.

Er, yes they are. Intersex conditions are medical anomalies. Just like humans are two legged but one legged humans exist.

SSR The whole " tell someone what they want to believe or they'll kill themselves" thing seems abusive to me, especially as it is usually used to shut down any referrence to sex, and to terrify parents, as you are trying to do here. Your use of "as you know" is odd, is that to present this as an absolute fact? Because a) the facts on trans-suicide rates are debatable, and b) you have no way of knowing what I do, or don't know, about suicide.

I'm not saying 'tell them what they want to hear', I'm saying don't invalide their feelings to fit your outdated agenda, if you don't support your children in such a serious matter and neglect their mental health, that's abusive and will result in them going no contact with you or committing suicide.

I've googled and it's even possible for three legged humans to be born. However this in no way negates that humans are a two legged species.

I think we all agree that there is a group of people who have penises an xy chromosomes and another with vaginas and xy and an infinitesimally small group with biological annonmolies. The way some children are born with 3 legs. It doesn't change the fact that we say humans have two legs (usually).

humans have inflicted culturally and regionally specific gender roles on those two groups so that one group could subjugate the other for reproductive and rape possibilities.

Liking short hair and trousers doesn't make you a man it makes you a female who like short hair and trousers.

So look it up, or do I have to spell everything out for you? There's proof that the male, female and transgender brains are different. There can be natural hormone imbalances. Confusion can be caused by upbringing. It's literally not just 'I feel like this so you're going to call me this'

Or they might grow out of it as many children do? Or benefit from mental health intervention?

That's not it. Many people's mental health is that fragile because they don't have support from their parents, who they love and trust most. That's fucking damaging. Disagree?

I have and there is very little evidence to show human brains vary by sex. Our brains are remarkably plastic and a little girls who likes to play with dolls will develop areas around nurturing and a little girl who likes to play with trucks will develop that side of their brain. The way boys who are pushed that way will. Doesn't give her a penis.

Already said that they may grow out of it, and mental health intervention is support. That's literally the only 2 options?

Do you define anatomy as biological sex? Penis = men? Or does surgery invalidate everything, is it 'not a real penis'? What about cis men who have to have surgery on their genitals, are they not real either? It's just like the chromosome argument.

Quite agree. Lack of support from your parents can give you problems. But someone with fragile mental health is not the best person to act in a dispassionate and balanced manner.

Fragile mental health seems to be the hallmark of transgender. Get treatment, yes. Don't have a hand in formulating political policy.
