When you think you heard it all... India Willoughby doing Women's Hour. Grin

pigsknickers · 06/03/2017 19:49

I've also emailed WH to voice my support for her. Couldn't work out how to copy text (on new phone) but it was long and passionate!

I, too, am Jenni Murray. JM clearly stated that everyone - trans, transvestite, lesbian, gay, straight, bi - is deserving of respect. It was not transphobic to say that a trans woman has not had the experience of growing up as a woman; a trans woman has had the experience of growing up as a trans woman (which must be incredibly hard). I have a son struggling with issues around gender identity at the moment, and it feels more important than ever that we (as a society) challenge our preconceptions around gender. Being gender-critical does not automatically mean being transphobic.

What terrifies me about the current climate is the desire to erase women's lived experience, and I am more thankful than ever that women like JM have been speaking out for women's lived experience during my adult life. I have pushed two mahoosive babies out of my tiny vagina and fed them from my breasts. I bleed every month and have the privilege of paying tax on products that stop me from staining the office carpet with my menstrual blood. I know that not all women get to experience the joy of vaginal tears and being folded in half every month by muscle cramps, but we're only five minutes in historical terms from women being 'confined' during pregnancy and being locked up for post natal depression. We have a big tent. Trans women are welcome, and I want to know more about what it means to be trans, but nobody has the right to silence the voice of women's lived experience, which is why I Am Jenni Murray.

IW in the story about Jenni Murray getting an 'impartiality warning':
Calling for Dame Jenni’s dismissal, Willoughby said that she had never supported the Dorchester’s staffing policies, adding that the Woman’s Hour presenter had created “fake news” in order to sell a “storyline”.
I listened to that WH programme with my gob hanging open in amazement at the utter bollocks India was spouting, and her complete and utter failure to understand the whole backdrop to women shaving (or not) their legs. The impression I took away was the IW didn't see anything wrong with the Dorchester's policies and thought women who didn't shave their legs were 'dirty'.

My conclusion was that India was really a bit of a tit and it was lucky that it was Jenni interviewing her and not me, because I would have run out of patience.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/03/2017 19:57

While looking at the awful petition to get Jenni off Woman's Hour I found this petition.

I did the same thing, fake. The only thing I'm kicking myself for is that it didn't occur to me until after I'd signed to put in the comment that I'd like a statue of Dame Jenni Murray there too, please. Feel free anyone who wants to do that....

It occurred to me today that the trans agenda/double think/thought control era we live in is the 21st century equivalent of the Spanish Inquisition. Anyone deviating from the one true faith can expect to be burned at the stake as a heretic and fear of being tarnished by association means less and less people are willing to speak out, and when they do there's an immediate outcry of "burn the witch".

SallyGinnamon · 06/03/2017 20:11

I'm JM too. Thank goodness someone is prepared to say it.

venusinscorpio · 06/03/2017 20:13

The TERF is the archetypal witch.

Pigeggs666 · 06/03/2017 20:16

Jenni Murray here too. If she's sacked I'll be down the BBC shouting and with signs

vaginafetishist · 06/03/2017 20:18

I'm Jenni Murray. Go Jenni!

Thank you, Jenni!
Whoever said "biology is not bigotry" upthread is spot on.
Am off to write to WH.

Orangepear · 06/03/2017 20:49

Thank you Jenni.

WorldWideWish · 06/03/2017 21:51

Thanks Jenni. Have emailed [email protected].

EmpressoftheMundane · 06/03/2017 21:59

Love Jenni Murray! Have sent an email to the BBC.

You know, if the trans agenda gets JM fired. It will create a load of publicity. People like my MIL, for whom this whole thing is very much NOT on her radar will be shocked, stunned. Suddenly, a whole load of people who are not likely to be sympathetic will be made aware.

tinkiiev · 06/03/2017 22:40

There's a good, clear headed article in the New Statesman here www.newstatesman.com/politics/2015/02/are-you-now-or-have-you-ever-been-terf

(From a year ago but still relevant)

helpimitchy · 06/03/2017 22:47

I feel as though we're being catapulted into the world of crackpot creationists and flat earthers with all this trans stuff. I mean, how did it get to this point? Confused

Since when did stating an indisputable fact become wrong?

Is this doublethink?

MaryTheCanary · 06/03/2017 23:15

I emailed too, urging them to support commentators with different opinions so as to enable proper debate--no response so far.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 06/03/2017 23:15

The article being in the Sunday Times is going to mean it reached a whole load of people who won't have read anything about trans issues online. And hopefully they'll all just think it's common sense.
