P.S. my computer still underlines "cisgender" in red.

Oh noes! Technological transphobia! that may be because it's a stupid term only internet social justice warriors use

venusinscorpio · 07/03/2017 00:06

Jenni Murray fails to see her own privilege whilst attacking one of the most marginalised minorities in the Country. She also has a deep voice and thus, is not (can't possibly be) a "real" woman.

Needs no comment! Idiot.

Misericord · 07/03/2017 00:09

"I have never benefitted from male privilege" said Willoughby.

Thisisouting · 07/03/2017 00:30

I've submitted a complaint

Wondering if anyone has the guts to do a #isitok tweet to the last leg? They are pretty ballsy on these kinds of things and it also brings the topic to a wider audience?

My Twitter is too personal I don't have the nerve, I feel a bit nervous having tweeted my support I didn't think anyone would retweet it, I'm usually just twittering on to myself Blush

microferret · 07/03/2017 07:14

Go Jenni! So pleased to see her say this after that awful Jane Garvey interview on Women's Hour with "Kellie" Maloney

NativityDisaster · 07/03/2017 07:26

I have sent in my complaint to the BBC as well. I am fuming over the warning.

jellyfrizz · 07/03/2017 07:30

But how can you argue with solid logic like this comment left on the sack Jenni petition blog??!!

"There is no such thing as a "woman" because such thing defies categorization. Same with "transwoman". Anyone can be a woman or a transwoman if they identify as such because they identify with a category that has no objective criteria. Woman does not exist and transwomen are men (who don't exist) who identify with that nonexistent category. Why can't people respect this? Murray should be sacked for claiming that transwomen, a category that does not exist, identify with something else that doesn't exist: women. Respect the fact that no categories exist, only identification with those non existent categories and sack this b*tch now."

PlonitbatPlonit · 07/03/2017 07:35

A letter with 278 signatories was sent to the BBC in support of Jenni Murray last night by email, a paper copy will follow this morning. All those signatories were collected without public recruitment, which is saying something. Thanks to the Mumsnetters who messaged me to have their names included.

And well done everyone who has emailed or sent a postcard of support to Jenni Murray.

BakeOffBiscuits · 07/03/2017 07:40

We really are living in an Orwellian world aren't we.Hmm

Satishouse · 07/03/2017 07:41

I have emailed WH ro show support to Jenni. 'Biology is not bigotry' - great line

microferret · 07/03/2017 07:49

venus, you're right about TERF being the new witch. we're being hunted - they can't burn us anymore, so they'll shut us up, threaten us with rape and death, smear us with slurs and nasty names, try to dislodge us from our jobs.
they can all fuck off, I won't shut up.

this was my complaint:

The fact that Jenni Murray has received an impartiality warning for her recent article around transgenderism is absolutely despicable. I should have complained when Jane Garvey gave a sickening softball interview to the vile "Kellie" Maloney, a wife beater who violently attacked his own wife and then tried to claim he was the real victim whilst speaking on "Women's" Hour. I should have complained about "India" Willoughby calling women disgusting for not shaving their legs. This is male privilege. Men can suddenly say they are women and then be lauded for their bravery whilst saying incredibly misogynistic things live on air on a programme that is SUPPOSED TO BE FOR WOMEN and you give no warnings, you make no judgements, you do nothing. An actual female person with XX chromosomes and a life lived in a female body, with all the discrimination and gendered socialisation that that entails, gives a considered, respectful and nuanced opinion on this issue, arguably one of the greatest threats to feminism and women that exists today, in a separate media outlet that is unconnected to the BBC - and she gets a warning? It is your organisation that is impartial, not Murray.

Make no mistake, the treatment of women like Murray who dare to question the dogma of transgenderism is a witch hunt. Women who say such things are threatened with rape, murder and violence. Since they can no longer be burned by the thuggish men - and make no mistake, they are men - who seek to silence them, they are hounded from jobs, smeared with slurs and publicly abused online. It is shameful. I am thoroughly appalled that the BBC has bowed to the pressure of this vocal minority of narcissists and has attempted to curtail free speech in this manner.

The "impartiality warning" given to Murray for daring to have an opinion on the meaning of being a woman should be revoked and you should look to your own organisation instead to see who is really behaving with unacceptable bias and prejudice.

Thecontentedcat · 07/03/2017 07:57

I also complained to the BBC, not as eloquently as microferret though! I emailed wh in support too.

microferret · 07/03/2017 08:03

I'm a member of several radical feminist groups on FB, I could recruit people to sign a letter of support, I'm sure we could eventually get thousands of names - how could we go about this?

There are people who feel like us everywhere - broadly left leaning women, who question the cult of gender in a nuanced and articulate way. We need to find a way to join our voices together so we can't be ignored any longer.

DianaMemorialJam · 07/03/2017 08:17

The reasons given for signing on that petition are a joke. And yy to a counter petition

I am jennispartacus

Bigoldsupermoon · 07/03/2017 08:26

I'm with Jenni.

MrsTrentReznor · 07/03/2017 08:35

I am Jenni.

I've emailed The BBC.

Anlaf · 07/03/2017 08:43

I am also Jenni Murray.

I have (to now) been too scared to post anything about this on the interwebs, although I do talk about it in real life. I will happily join any group/letter/tweet/whatever.

I've emailed the BBC. I think it's appalling that we can't freely debate this issue, and that saying something factually correct is seen as an opinion to be censured. It's all kinds of wrong.

Biology is not bigotry!!

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 07/03/2017 09:10

I am Jenni Murray.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 07/03/2017 09:12

I've also emailed my complaint.

MotherofPearl · 07/03/2017 10:36

Tinkiiev, thanks so much for posting the link to that article from the New Statesman. Excellent reading.

tam0shanks · 07/03/2017 10:42

How right Jenni Murray is, 100% so and how wonderful that she was brave enough to say it for all we women wanting to but not having the opportunity. I also agreed with Germaine Greer, crude or not. I'm 70 and "I'm Jenni Murray."

Lalsy · 07/03/2017 12:15

Microferret, that would be great. I don't know the best way to go about it though: I would happily sign something, and contribute here, but don't feel able to share stuff like that on social media under my real name (I admire those who do and wish I felt differently). Would it be possible to draft something on a new thread here and then publish on one of the petition sites?

In my letter to the BBC I included a link to the Gender apostates website, and said they should be listening to trans women who disagree with the current accepted ideology.

Ev1lEdna · 07/03/2017 12:34

I complained to the BBC and wrote to women's hour to express my support for Jenni.
