Thanks Jenni, for your bravery in speaking the truth

'bot genders' is a new one even for me.

Sounds quite good, but I meant 'both'.

JapabSharted · 13/03/2017 15:25

I had the thighs necessary for the cycling Raking
And good Sunday Lunches
And beautiful spacious grounds.

But ours was a mixed college by the time I got there.

RakingUpBadMemories · 13/03/2017 17:32

Ah, I'm an idle blighter who preferred cycling on the flat.

And as STEM subjects were so very boy-biased by the third year (roughly 13 to 1), I preferred having at least one other girl in my college to chat to about it.

Plus, having three brothers, I was damned if I wanted the same kitchen and bathroom cleaning battles during termtime...

Surely the issue with Lauren Jeska, FreezerBird, is that LJ was so desperate not to reveal LJ's sex that LJ was prepared to kill to hide the truth. And so desperate to validate LJ's gender that LJ was prepared to cheat against women. Not, then, a very nice person.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/03/2017 18:45

It seems LJ is a very sad case of a person with complex MH issues - but possibly, the prevailing dogma being that no-one is allowed to question whether a transwoman is a real woman may have been unhelpful, to say the least. If you have someone who desperately wants to be a woman, undergoes the treatments to become as close to a woman as possible, has every professional, the media and most friends and acquaintances either reinforcing this or maintaining polite silent acquiescence..... and then someone does cast doubt in the context where it most matters to you - I can see how that could catalyse disaster.

TinselTwins · 13/03/2017 18:59

Re transwomen in sport:

Biological women who want to make it to a high level in their sport make all kinds of sacrifices that ordinary women wouldn't be happy do to, because their sport is what matters most to them, right?

Now this is extreme and I'm not advocating this, but I know someone who got very high up who wasn't "allowed" to take the pill as it would make her curvy.

But transwomen in sport should "have it all"? That's NOT equality! Biological women in sport sacrifice expressing their "womanhood" in the top levels of sport, but TRANSWOMEN don't want to delay their transition and expression until they retire?

ageingrunner · 14/03/2017 09:35

Also the recent case of the transboy who continued to be allowed to compete against the girls in wrestling and won the league, while taking testosterone. If a girl who didn't identify as trans had done that, she would have been disqualified for cheating. There's a video of him being interviewed and thanking his team mates, who stand silently behind him, looking incredibly pissed off.

Ollycat · 14/03/2017 16:54

Very heartening the reporting on BBC radio 2 of the LJ sentencing today which centres on her trans status and motivation for the attack.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 14/03/2017 20:27

OMG BBC reported Jeska as transgender. And said she was running as a woman. Lauren Jeska jailed for Alexander Stadium stabbings

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 14/03/2017 20:27

Amazed they didnt insist on not revealing her gender status.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/03/2017 22:09

They've done what they said they would do, in the response upthread - fair enough.

RoquefortMonster · 14/03/2017 23:02

Just found this article on the 'impartiality' of the BBC:
notthenewsinbriefs.wordpress.com/2016/06/05/the-bias-of-the-bbc/
We already know they're biased, but there is a lot of info about previous programmes covering trans issues which can be used if anyone's corresponding with them about their biased reporting and programming.

Thanks for the aricle Roquefort. It is such a help to have it to help articulate the arguments against this transactivism wave, instead of finding myself feeling powerless about what to say.

Just something that made me laugh this week...

The other day, DS (aged 4) and I walked past a certain trans woman who stood for NUS women's officer last year. After we got round the corner, DS asked 'Mummy? Why was that man wearing a dress?' So, rather than inform him that this was a 'real woman' and that he was committing a hate crime and 'literally killing' trans people with his question, I said well men can wear dresses if they like, as well as trousers - just like women can wear dresses or trousers. DS thought for a minute, then said 'No Mummy, I know that - I just thought he must be freezing!' Grin.

It was pretty chilly the other day...

ErrolTheDragon · 17/03/2017 10:44

Wise child!Grin

NauticalDisaster · 17/03/2017 11:03

Yes, the BBC really is biased, quick to censure Jenni Murray but, two weeks later, has nowt to say about Libby Purves.

I've just had a reply from them re Libby Purves saying they need more time:

This update is to let you know that we referred your complaint to the relevant people, but that it may take us a little longer before we can send our reply.

MercyMyJewels · 17/03/2017 11:06

Yes you can't fool the children can you
