proposed legislation in scotland - licensed saunas and legalised prostitution

A consultation is currently happening in Scotland to make charges to the laws around prostitution, brothel keeping and pimping. No matter what you think - it would be good to have your voice, experiences and opinions heard in this. They have just extended the deadline to the 8th December so if time has been an issue for you - you now have another week!

No you haven't vestal. It would probably
Make it easier to uncover trafficking if women were registered like in Germany.
I dont agree with that however.

I can't take people who will tell others they're supposedly trying to help that they're all disgusting and mentally ill.
Those women who feel they have no choice but to turn to sex work or trafficked sex work are not going to thank you for your disgraceful views and prejudices against them as has been displayed here.

Leave this kind of discussion to adults who can separate their prejudices from important matters like this.

It's like a white person fighting against racial abuse but then being racially derogatory themselves, and saying others can't be abusive to ethnic minorities but it's OK for you to tell them they're disgusting, mentally ill etc.

Nice bunch

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 10/12/2015 19:33

I would like men who use prostitutes to be viewed with the same contempt as we view say, drunk drivers, those who run illegal dog fights and similar low life.

draemous · 10/12/2015 19:35

I would like anyone who lies about rape to be viewed with the same contempt as we view say, drunk drivers, those who run illegal dog fights and similar low life.

SapphireStarfish · 10/12/2015 19:36

I have no idea what you're talking about vestal, nor do I want to.

Casualty my reference to mental health is because a poster said that I was clearly suffering with cognitive dissonance because I'm a happy hooker

OneMoreCasualty · 10/12/2015 19:37

"I can't take people who will tell others they're supposedly trying to help that they're all disgusting and mentally ill."

Who said that?

I and others have made it clear that we judge the punters far far more harshly, and you even thanked me for that. Now you are coming out with vitriol against those still engaging with you.

So I'm going to stop engaging, because you want to fight against a case that no one here is making; like a politician, answering the thing you wish you'd been asked.

SapphireStarfish · 10/12/2015 19:37

Ah I see you're on about having prostitution prohibited.

You can't be that stupid surely. For right or wrong prostitution is going nowhere vestal and you know it

OneMoreCasualty · 10/12/2015 19:38

Oh, cognitive dissonance is not mental ill health!

Nonetheless, bye for now; it's too late to be asked to defend a case no one is making.

SapphireStarfish · 10/12/2015 19:39

The woman who claimed I was clearly suffering with cognitive dissonance and all the stuff people have said about me above that shows stigma is still there toward prostitutes. I'm answering your questions casualty but they're obviously not what you want

SapphireStarfish · 10/12/2015 19:40

Likewise. Thanks for the sensible conversation in a sea of bigots though

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 10/12/2015 19:47

I would like anyone who lies about rape to be viewed with the same contempt as we view say, drunk drivers, those who run illegal dog fights and similar low life.

Given the treatment of rape victims you probably already have your wish.

Here is a link to a report by a man who does know what he is talking about on the subject of how rarely false allegations happen.

<a class="break-all" href="https://www.google.co.uk/url?q=www.cps.gov.uk/publications/research/perverting_course_of_justice_march_2013.pdf&sa=U&rct=j&ved=0ahUKEwizp_vwhdLJAhWEORoKHSl4D24QFggmMAA&usg=AFQjCNFBLOAZoyANQFdBgaqjV6YQUYZyPA" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.google.co.uk/url?q=www.cps.gov.uk/publications/research/perverting_course_of_justice_march_2013.pdf&sa=U&rct=j&ved=0ahUKEwizp_vwhdLJAhWEORoKHSl4D24QFggmMAA&usg=AFQjCNFBLOAZoyANQFdBgaqjV6YQUYZyPA

draemous · 10/12/2015 19:50

I'm not clicking that

draemous · 10/12/2015 19:54

And what are you trying to get at anyway? Are you trying to say even if false rape accusations are rare (which I am sceptical about) then we should turn a blind eye when a scumbag does lie about being raped or falsely accuse someone or being a rapist?

VestalVirgin · 10/12/2015 19:54

I would like men who use prostitutes to be viewed with the same contempt as we view say, drunk drivers, those who run illegal dog fights and similar low life.

I am afraid I have rather more contempt for men who use prostitutes than for drunk drivers. Drunk drivers can at least claim to have had impaired judgement skills when they decided it was a good idea to get into their cars.

Men who use prostitutes, on the other hand ... their thought process is: "Oh, maybe that badly paid prostitute is being forced into prostitution. But who cares? I cannot be arsed to put any effort into finding out, government should do that."

And then they complain about being called rapists after they have raped a trafficked woman. Because clearly, their intent is magic, and they paid the pimp, so it was totally consensual. After all, the woman's owner consented.
Those are men who would claim to be against slavery, but clearly, they are absolutely in favour of enslaving women.

draemous · 10/12/2015 19:58

If trafficking is such a huge problem why can't we find any traffickers?

www.theguardian.com/uk/2009/oct/20/government-trafficking-enquiry-fails

"The UK's biggest ever investigation of sex trafficking failed to find a single person who had forced anybody into prostitution in spite of hundreds of raids on sex workers in a six-month campaign by government departments, specialist agencies and every police force in the country."!

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 10/12/2015 20:03

'I'm not clicking that"

. It is a report by Alison Levitt QC, Principal Legal Advisor, and the Crown Prosecution Service Equality and Diversity Unit (and I see I typed man who knows). It is a link to a pdf.

And no I didn't say we should turn a blind eye. And you know perfectly well how women who make false allegations are vilified.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 10/12/2015 20:08

The Guardian report is from 2009. Try googling trafficked women in Edinburgh. One of many results.

m.fifetoday.co.uk/news/local-headlines/man-banked-over-150-000-after-trafficking-women-between-flats-for-prostitution-1-3907780

draemous · 10/12/2015 20:17

"And you know perfectly well how women who make false allegations are vilified."

Considering it takes not 1, not 2 but 11 false rape allegations to be made by an individual before they are actually sent to prison or receive any media publicity, I would say they are treated extremely leniently.

That's right, even after she made 10 false rape lies the media still didn't report her. That's why you "think* it's rare because for some reason the media seems hesitant to report such cases.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/9894588/Compulsive-liar-jailed-after-11-false-rape-claims-in-decade.html

draemous · 10/12/2015 20:19

@Lass, have you ever actually read beyond a headline?

"The prosecutor said there was no evidence that the women had been coerced into prostitution and the trafficking was restricted to taking them between addresses."

and this:

“The sex workers confirmed that they had not been coerced into prostitution by the accused"

draemous · 10/12/2015 20:23

"The Guardian report is from 2009"

I think the fact every police force across Britain spending 6 months raiding (without any warning or notice) every brothel they know about and not finding anything says a lot.

You pointed out this was in 2009, do you think such operations should be repeated every few years?

Dervel · 11/12/2015 02:38

As long as sex is perceived as a commodity, and as long as one gender has more resources with which to buy it, the genders will never be equal. This goes for all of society and not just the sex industry.

VestalVirgin · 11/12/2015 11:48

Dervel, I know it is confusing, but you want to say "one sex" and "the sexes" here - transgender people of male sex retain male privilege. It is not about gender.

I agree, sex as commodity is not something we should tolerate.

norrean · 13/12/2015 20:57

lol @LassWiTheDelicateAir being pwned

norrean · 13/12/2015 21:00

oh look! here's an article with a title that says women have been trafficked!

someone else reads article

oh wait, turns out the women weren't trafficked at all and the writer simply doesn't know what the word means (hint- it is to do with being forced against one's will and nothing to do with moving location)

sex workers who move location voluntarily of their own free will are not victims of trafficking.

LassWiTheDelicateAir claim has been debunked. next.

PlaysWellWithOthers · 13/12/2015 21:27

pwned?

Are you 5?

Or merely incapable of adult discourse?

norrean · 13/12/2015 21:35

are you capable of reading past an article's title?
