I thought I was a feminist until someone showed me this forum.

As in the title I was brought up to believe that feminism is about equality and choice but having recently been introduced to this forum it would appear that that is not the case. The forum gives the impression that feminism is not a choice but compliance to a set of rules.

When did feminism change to fight anyone who doesn't conform to what feminists want, instead of embracing the fact that women are equal with men and its our choice to do what we want?

OP posts:

Didyou-we are also skating around the fact that the poster you defended's first contribution to the thread was a particularly silly cheap shot, which they repeated when challenged on it. So not some poor innocent who fell among feminists.........

King1982 · 20/04/2015 19:13

This is entertaining

PuffinsAreFictitious · 20/04/2015 19:14

No idea Seneca. Presumably, it's ok for a poster to attack Buffy, but not ok for Buffy to answer that attack using the attacker's own words.

Sad really.

Hakluyt · 20/04/2015 19:14

It's not entertaining- it's downright depressing!

King1982 · 20/04/2015 19:15

Why?

YonicScrewdriver · 20/04/2015 19:18

Depressing because once again the discussion isn't about feminism, but about "the regulars"

King1982 · 20/04/2015 19:23

The OP always had a chance of leaning that way.
I think there was a thread in AIBU that gave similar comments about FWR. I think that's just the way it's perceived and time to move on regardless

YonicScrewdriver · 20/04/2015 19:26

If only we could, King

Though the OP had a certain slant, the discussion had broadened until someone popped on to take Buffy to task about some other threads.

It's not like it's all feminism, it's just people don't like mumsnet's version of feminism. They find it very white, middle classed, from what I have read. They also don't like the perceived clique. There are plenty of other forums around.

I think on all topics, the same threads pop up again and again. So it's not that surprising that this topic is up again.

SenecaFalls · 20/04/2015 19:34

I reported my post above and asked MNHQ to explain the deletion. Talk about silencing . . .

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 20/04/2015 19:40

Hi all,
Buffy's post was deleted because it was trollhunting. If posters have concerns about fellow MNers' good faith, we are interested in hearing about that via the reports system. For the record, however, didyouwritethe has been posting with us for near enough a decade now, on many different subjects using very many different names.

Hi Buffy,
Sorry to delete that last, perhaps you didn't realise that it was the sort of thing that is better reported than hashed out on a public thread? We will take a look.

So you're not even allowed to talk about troll hunting? Even if it's to say you haven't done it? [Hmm]

PuffinsAreFictitious · 20/04/2015 19:53

It wasn't troll hunting. It was pointing out that on this thread that poster wasn't posting in good faith. ie, they were being deliberately goady, notwithstanding posting on here since the beginning of time.

I await deletion

SenecaFalls · 20/04/2015 19:55

Whaaat? Really, Helen? That poster was being really unfair (am I allowed to say this?) and Buffy was responding in her usual measured way.

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 20/04/2015 20:00

Hi there,
Sorry to cause a problem for some folks, but we at MNHQ can still see what people wrote, so we aren't reliant on memory or impression of a particular post to enforce the guidelines and tbh we've looked again and we're perfectly happy with the deletions we have made here. We would also prefer that people didn't goad us, although that's probably not in the guidelines... so we'll leave Puffin's post up, because disagreeing with MNHQ is not against our rules.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 20/04/2015 20:03

Just wow.

Hakluyt · 20/04/2015 20:04

And from now on the "feminists are nasty bullies" brigade will have proof positive- because Mumsnet agrees.

Pah.

PomeralLights · 20/04/2015 20:09

Oh my. Another one of these threads :( I started using mumsnet when I got pregnant last year. I found FWR when I was struggling to cope with antenatal depression due to a history of rape and sexual assault.
FWR saved me from my guilt complex and gave me strength to know that rape is rape regardless of apologists and that it is endemic the way it is because of the fucking patriarchy.
I'm getting pretty bloody sick of some of the wonderful FWR regulars who's words are saving people like me from depression and suicidal thoughts being slated because people think they're a bit aggressive or argumentative. Sorry to be dismissive but boo bloody hoo.
I third the support of buffy; cailin is awesome, and though I find i don't gel with the way yonic posts I don't lose any sleep over it.
I don't know why anyone new here would start a goady thread like this without having a deep read around FWR first.

LineRunner · 20/04/2015 20:15

Well exactly, PomeralLights.

I read around FWR for a while before I posted on it. I'm doing the same with another board at the moment relating to my personal life.
