Wrt the feminism 101 thread, there was also a feminism chat thread that was very friendly - cant remember who strarted it, maybe forkful?

Beachcomber · 19/06/2012 17:43

Also they are terms that men don't like women to use because of those specific meanings.

thechairmanmeow · 19/06/2012 17:43

i havent told anyone how they are feeling, you have no right acusing me of things i havnt done.
i have certainly never said men have to live up to the beauty standard that women do, actually, i've never even seen that opinion voiced on these threads, but then you clearly have the capability of twisting stuff around so it menas something else

and yes i would keep on arguing but i have to go make dinner.

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 19/06/2012 17:44

Anyone do me a friendly link to Feminism 101 and feminism chat thread ?
They both sound good

yellowraincoat · 19/06/2012 17:45

I never said you said anything about the beauty standard, did I?

You told me how I feel about cocks. How ALL women feel about cocks.

You're silencing me by saying I twist stuff.

See, I can say things too.

Beachcomber · 19/06/2012 17:51

I think this might be one of them Juggling. There were a whole series of chat threads but they probably don't make terribly interesting reading as they were just people chatting about every day stuff, some of it a bit related to feminism some not.

Maryvivienne · 19/06/2012 17:56

I saw this on the active chat. I'm not a man and don't consider myself a feminist. How do people actually define feminist. I looked it up in my dictionary it says feminism - the movement to win political, ecomonic and social equality for women. Well I'm certainly in favour of that.

yellowraincoat · 19/06/2012 18:10

Yay, you're a feminist, Maryvivienne!

Hullygully · 19/06/2012 18:12

Did someone really actually truly tell you how you feel about cocks, yellow?

OlympicMarathonNCer · 19/06/2012 18:20

I'm a woman, looking for answers s'pose. I agree with feminism and the political change it's brought but I have no idea where it applies to me or me to it.

I also have mh problems so confusion is normal :o

yellowraincoat · 19/06/2012 18:22

Yes Hully. They said I liked kicking them. AND THEY WERE RIGHT.

bejeezusWC · 19/06/2012 18:41

The way I see it is, we heat the non-feminist and the male POV all day everyday. It's not important, on a feminist forum to be reminded of them

I wouldn't go on a petrol head forum and berate them all for being, um, petrol heads; tell them they should have more regard for the environment for ecample

OP posts:
EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 19/06/2012 18:42

Olympics - Do you want to know more, thinking it through or want to put feminism into action? Or just confused?

bejeezusWC · 19/06/2012 18:43

What's all this about cocks raincoat?

OP posts:
OlympicMarathonNCer · 19/06/2012 18:51

:o

I used to actively campaign on anti dv issues, women's rights etc.

I am recovering from a breakdown due to abuse at different stages of my life.

I have already started actively campaigning again but I am really struggling with connecting back with feminism.

I think atm I am one of those relying on feminism and campaigning but I'm just a bit lost.

I've read through a lot of posts and have some good pointers of what's going on and what to read. I'm just not up to debating.

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 19/06/2012 18:53

Thanks for the feminism in chat link Beachcomber - that was an interesting and friendly thread. How about doing that "Any questions" idea again sometime?

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 19/06/2012 18:54

Glad to hear you are so active, I think it is important for feminists to be so - and that you are getting better.

Totally understand that you may not want to debate. You can either just lurk or ask questions.

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 19/06/2012 18:57

I think to take my engagement with feminism on a step I'd like to go to a rally - possibly with my daughter (aged 13) There was one that caught my attention recently and I thought of going to called "A million women rise" - but didn't make it to one yet. Any suggestions of good things going on ?

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 19/06/2012 19:04

Juggling - I googled feminism and the area I live ina nd came up with some stuff. Million women rising is a great march against violence to women. the RadFem conference in London and there will be local things, unless you are out in the sticks

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 19/06/2012 19:08

Thanks Eats - How radical do you have to be to be a RadFem ? What sorts of things do they believe ? Are you a RadFem ?
Possibly should start another thread - but since when did that stop me Wink

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 19/06/2012 19:18

Yes I have recently started to say I am a radfem - even though I think I have a lot to learn. You don't have to be a radfem to go to the conference, just a feminist genuinely interested in wanting to know more.

Radical doesn't mean extreme, it means getting to the root of things i.e. recognising the patriarchy and wanting to overthrow it. Also being against porn, lap dancing,, etc and recognising it is abusive to women. And not thinking it is possible to change sex. Lastly recognising heterosexual relationships at the root of a lot of the day-to-day oppression of many women. Can find you some links if you want?

OlympicMarathonNCer · 19/06/2012 19:22

Rallies are great, well worth going to one.

I do have a question to ask/concern to talk about but it's not something I can deal with on the boards.

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 19/06/2012 19:24

You can pm me if you want. Might not be able to answer it - but I will try

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 19/06/2012 19:26

Juggling - some links if you are interested.

at Yellowraincoat's hobby of kicking cocks.

And then raincoats.

(English raincoat = french for condom, no?)

And then chicken keepers being offended. They would be, if you're going around kicking their cocks.

Sorry this thread has a-jumbled all of my thought processes.
