just what the title says really....

I have read a few contributors, and I really want to point to them and ask 'what are YOU doing here?' Grin but its not on is it

Is the RadFem conference still happening? Did they find another venue?

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 19/06/2012 19:31

PubeGardens - On the website they say it is still happening. Are you thinking of going?

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 19/06/2012 19:35

Yes, it looks really interesting. I hope they find somewhere Smile

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 19/06/2012 19:36

Why don't you register?

Shakey1500 · 19/06/2012 19:38

I get drawn here through active conversations. There are certain aspects of feminism I agree with, would argue for. But there are others that I don't tend to agree with. They would probably come under the Radfem "umbrella".

I certainly don't feel educated enough to debate the individual topics I may not agree with, or even discuss fully the ones I do!

I used to find a certain "tone" here that I disliked but to be fair, twas rare. Lately threads are more educational, less confrontational.

But on the whole, I don't find it a comfy place. I guess that tantamounts to me not being a very good feminist, if indeed I am one.

Grin

It says registration is closed.

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 19/06/2012 19:42

Does it. That is a shame. I hadn't realised

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 19/06/2012 19:51

I've emailed them.

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 19/06/2012 19:54

Good idea

the thing is, Feminism isn't "comfy, is it ?

how can it be "comfy" when you are questioning the roots and very fabric of the way that women are treated in society

there are an awful lot of people who want you to STFU actually, men and women because nasty feminists say things many folks don't want to hear because it might make a little worm of doubt enter your head and that isn't comfy^

when I first started thinking about Feminism and what it meant to me, I had some rather horrid lightbulb moments, tbh

Shakey1500 · 19/06/2012 21:36

Exactly AF that's why I said it tantamounts to not being a very good feminist.

Some discussions do make me feel uncomfy. They are usually the topics that I mull over and eventually agree with. There are others where i think "woah...I defnitely don't agree to that extent"

All in all, I shy away.

catgirl1976 · 19/06/2012 22:01

I come on this section as I am a feminism but I don't with everything everyone posts. There isn't one view of feminism so there is room for a lot of disagreement under that umbrella

pornmonkey · 19/06/2012 22:01

I'm drawn to this part of mumsnet to become better informed. All the people that are important to me in my life are female (mum, sister, daughters, wife, colleagues, boss, boss's boss etc). I can't remain apart from the issues that affect them, they affect me too indirectly. I realise that for some posters I represent all that is wrong with the world just by being a man, and for that reason hardly ever post, more just read what others have to say and like I say, hopefully become better informed.

AnyFucker · 19/06/2012 22:07

I realise that for some posters I represent all that is wrong with the world just by being a man

that isn't true

Beachcomber · 19/06/2012 22:13

What AnyFucker said.

Feminism isn't comfy. It is a right royal head fuck.

Plus to Basil's comments about yellowraincoat's cock kicking.

Plus, JugglingWithTangentialOranges, you go for it if you want to start a questions thread.

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 19/06/2012 22:20

Just wondering are there many RadFems in relationships with men ?

Following on from what Eats said about RadFems recognising that heterosexual relationships were at the root of a lot of the day to day oppression of women ? ( At 19.18 )

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 19/06/2012 22:22

Yes there are juggling.

BoneyBackJefferson · 19/06/2012 22:23

I came on here as I was interested in feminism and equality.

Don't post due to various comments by various posters.

I lurk because I am still interested.

AnyFucker · 19/06/2012 22:29

yes, juggling

apparently I wear my DH's bollocks as earrings though, and if some posters "had to come home to me they would chop it off"

(yes, it's been said to me, very recently, and the former several times in fact)

so, I have precious little patience with the men who whine that they have to stop posting because they have had a few "comments" made to them on this board

Tortington · 19/06/2012 22:31

i come to tell you that you're wrong Wink

AnyFucker · 19/06/2012 22:34

nobody listens to you though, custy Wink

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 19/06/2012 22:36

Slightly surprised that more than one poster had the idea of wearing bollocks as earrings as have to admit the idea had never occurred to me !

Feel quite welcomed on here tonight, especially by Eats patient answers and by Beachcomber saying that "Feminism isn't comfy. It's a right royal head fuck" Grin Can see how it would be ... is that progress ? ... possibly enough progress for one night Smile

Tortington · 19/06/2012 22:37

no they're just nasty on here Wink back atcha

BoneyBackJefferson · 19/06/2012 22:37

No whineing at all.

Just stating a fact.

Comments that are designed to stop debates makes trying to have the discussion pointless.
