Tulisa - wonderful role model

Tulisa is feminism's new hero

I think she's been incredibly brave this week. I can only imagine how mortifying and sickening it must be to think that someone you trusted has put intimate footage of you into the public domain. Full credit to her for refusing to be shamed by this. It's probably too much to hope that he's the one feeling ashamed, but he flipping well should be Angry

A lot of celebs do this sort of thing and it does work for them though. I think this was something she kind of authorised for publicity and it has back fired. My oldest mate works in this world and sees it a lot. A v well known female singer had a party in her house for people who had worked on her last single. Friend thought it weird but went out of nosiness then said stars people tried to get all of them to 'sell' their story to the press about the house and what went on at the party! Tulisa was in the papers every day in the run up to this re her new solo career and she is in a better position to pay off the bloke than he is to take her on. I wouldn't be surprised if eventually she comes clean (as it were)

Lottapianos · 27/03/2012 09:46

KarmaK, I can't believe the energy you're putting into fighting this guy's corner! I still believe her. And his defence - 'she started it, all her idea guv' - is pathetic.

I do feel for her though as when she is older she will cringe but like some woman said on phone in there are so many celeb scandals it will be forgotten once there is something else!

noddyholder · 27/03/2012 09:50

The song btw is very good and the whole message of it fits with the 'leaked' footage.

KarmaK · 27/03/2012 10:23

I agree. The song's rubbish too.

skrumle · 27/03/2012 10:30

which celebrities have released a video of them performing sexual acts and had it "work" for them?

and i'm talking actual celebrities, not socialites who ended up with showbiz careers after the event?

like her or not, tulisa is famous - she is on one of the biggest shows on UK TV, and is trying to establish a mainstream solo pop career. so who exactly is she using as her role model??? there is a MASSIVE difference between having a story planted in a tabloid of a possible romance with someone else famous (or details of your new house) and having a video of you giving someone a blow job released.

noddyholder · 27/03/2012 10:33

There is very little difference between socialites trying to further themselves and b list singers who will have a short shelf life. She's not long term level of talent I wouldn't think so quick route to fame is what these people do. I think behind closed doors she is probably not too bothered!

KarmaK · 27/03/2012 10:37

I agree again Noddy. Some very calculated moves are behind the scenes in showbiz.

skrumle · 27/03/2012 10:38

"quick route to fame" - i thought she started the band when she was something like 12? how exactly is releasing a sex tape over a decade later when she has already been given the X factor job supposed to help her?

and i'm sure you're right - wouldn't bother me to have total strangers on the internet call me a slut/skank/whore and discuss whether my technique is any good, i'm sure she's loving the attention.

AmberLeaf · 27/03/2012 10:39

Tulisa is not just a b list singer with a short shelf life though is she?

She was on mainstream sat night TV with the X factor, not like shes trying to revive interest is it.

Doing something something like this on purpose when she has progressed from NDubz to TV shows wouldnt not be helpful at all.

Why would she?

KarmaK · 27/03/2012 10:39

BTW, What does the colour of this mans penis have to do with the price of butter?

Maybe it's just me but a purple willy seems to be quite a note-worthy thing. Maybe others have encountered them before, but I haven't.

Lottapianos · 27/03/2012 10:40

She is trying to break in the US where a sex tape is definitely not a hindrance esp in the genre she is attempting to break. She is average in many ways looks voice etc and is using everything at her disposal probably 'advised' by execs. The song is now released and the general gist of its message is 'forgive us for what we dun but we're young' or some such.

Nyac · 27/03/2012 10:43

That's kind of nasty that you looked at this video Karma. Maybe that's why you're being so hard on Tulisa, to justify taking part in the invasion and violation of her privacy.

Nyac · 27/03/2012 10:43

I'd feel like a bit of a perv and a voyeur looking at something like that.

MordecaiAndTheRigbys · 27/03/2012 10:45

She isnt just this new girl on the scene though. She has been in a very successful band for years and years. I wouldnt be a fan of their music etc but so so many people are. Plus the X Factor? Yeah, I really cant see what she stands to gain from this video.

and i'm sure you're right - wouldn't bother me to have total strangers on the internet call me a slut/skank/whore and discuss whether my technique is any good, i'm sure she's loving the attention. This, is just so very very wrong..

KarmaK · 27/03/2012 10:45

In an ideal world a singer will have actual talent and that in itself will carry them forward. This applies to people like Adele and Beyonce who've made it really big and actually can sing and in Beyonce's case dance really well too. Tulisa has an average (at best) voice and nothing about her stands out. Her sex tape helps distract from the fact that her solo music is pretty shit.

KarmaK · 27/03/2012 10:47

That's kind of nasty that you looked at this video Karma. Maybe that's why you're being so hard on Tulisa, to justify taking part in the invasion and violation of her privacy.

Oh right, so nobody else here has seen the vid. Yeah. Right. :)

noddyholder · 27/03/2012 10:47

She is new in the US where it is notoriously difficult to get started esp for UK acts.

MordecaiAndTheRigbys · 27/03/2012 10:49

KarmaK are you her ex or something?

I dont rate the music, but I do have respect for her when I saw the documentary of her and her mother, who has severe mental health issues and she cared for her from a young age. She has been through a lot.

MordecaiAndTheRigbys · 27/03/2012 10:50

I havent seen the video. I would be sickened to watch such a thing.

Lottapianos · 27/03/2012 10:50

I'm the OP and I haven't watched it, I feel ill at the thought of watching it

I actually like her but think a lot of young women in this industry are 'advised' to go down a risque sexual route to sell their music on the RnB scene. The papers and twitter shouting feminist! are wrong imo She is being exploited by the male dominated industry like many before her Sad Hiding thread now as have work to do!

KarmaK · 27/03/2012 10:54

KarmaK are you her ex or something?

Yes I am. I'm the Purple Willy guy.

MordecaiAndTheRigbys · 27/03/2012 10:56

I dont think she is a feminist, I do think she is a victim. A victim of the person who sold her down the river, a victim of the music industry and a victim of the media. Saying its her own fault is normalising it an okaying what this ex did. (and he did do it)
