Have we a thread on this yet?

www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/oct/04/facebook-hate-speech-women-rape?newsfeed=true

I am really shocked.

ella , your seriously being silly at this point suggesting that becuasr i mention that feminists should take the mantle against the word 'slut' that becuase i am using the word slut in that context i should report myself?Hmm just ridiculous now frankly

Tortington · 08/10/2011 21:58

ooh derailing love it

Uppity · 08/10/2011 21:59

Custardo you're hilarious.

Yep, we'll all drop everything and just deal with the threads you want us to.

Because what we want to discuss, is not important or interesting to you, so obviously it makes sense for you to tell us what we ought to be discussing instead.

Hmm
Tortington · 08/10/2011 22:01

"why do you think saying you agree she deserves an apology means something?

and if someone else said it? does it make it more valid and not ..idiotic?

EllaDee · 08/10/2011 22:01

Eh? What is your point about that word then? Use it, don't use it, I don't want to stop you, but if it bothers you I can't really censor your speech for you!

giyadas · 08/10/2011 22:02

The twi-sluts are an adult fiction quiche, they called themselves that, and the snake wanking lot are pretty self selecting, they didn't have anything imposed on them and they seem to be having a good time, so why not leave them to it. Conversations about the misogyny behind words go on in the feminism section, they can both exist together on one site.
I don't see how they're relevent to this thread (but I got to it after everything was deleted)
But rape apologist usually refers to the arguments put forward, it's not an insult but it shows where a certain type of argument can lead, even thought the person putting it forward doesn't want rapists to get away with it and is supportive of rape survivors.

Tortington · 08/10/2011 22:02

it took you longer to type that uppity than it would to type something meaningful in relation to the subject matter

giyadas · 08/10/2011 22:02

wow, I type really slowly

EllaDee · 08/10/2011 22:02

custardo - yes, obviously, if someone who wasn't rhubarb's mate came on the thread, that person would probably be more impartial. Is this news?

Tortington · 08/10/2011 22:04

people who wear the anti women tshirts are a self selecting lot.

i cant believe that its ok to use that language on here actually in any context.

Tortington · 08/10/2011 22:04

not news, would it make a difference?>

well actually this is evident. it hasn;t made a difference

giyadas - thanks, that makes sense!

I don't personally like the idea of going on someone else's thread and telling a group of people off - it'd be like going in S&B and trolling the threads about waxing with feminist quotations. Ie., rude.

AlysWorld · 08/10/2011 22:06

so why don't you go and shout at the people using the word?

EllaDee · 08/10/2011 22:07

'i cant believe that its ok to use that language on here actually in any context.'

Don't fekking use it then you numpty!

Tortington · 08/10/2011 22:11

suggesting that my opinion is invalid becuase i am rhubarbs mate is really offensive actually.

saying it would be ok for someone else...not rhubarbs mate to say that calling her a rape apologist would be taken seriously,

we are two different grown women. and this is tantermount to you saying that a woman doesnt have an opinion

do not insinuate i am not allowed my on opinions beccause i am a woman.

EllaDee · 08/10/2011 22:12

Fortunately, I didn't suggest that. Re-read my posts, they're quite clear.

Tortington · 08/10/2011 22:12

ella - seriously are you taking issue with me reporting the use of a word...'slut' and in reporting to you that i find that word offensive you tell me not to use it?

thats just strange

Tortington · 08/10/2011 22:13

oh i have alysworld. i thought you might like to know as a feminist.

is that ok?

giyadas · 08/10/2011 22:14

Re - the self selecting bit, it;s a thread on MN, it's not on a t-shirt, or a public fb page and none of it has violating someone else as it's key motif. Those who self-identify as a twi-slut are clearly different form those that identify themselves (directly or indirectly) as a misogynist. I know who I'm more worried about.

JeremyVile · 08/10/2011 22:14

Custy- don't do this pal, it's doing no one any favours at all.

DontCallMeFrothyDragon · 08/10/2011 22:15

FFS lost my message...

I never called rhubarb a rape apologist. Regardless, it is not an insult. But still. I didn't call her it.

I ever said you had no personal experience. I said rhubarb used her "educational" experience to over-ride several users personal experience.

FWIW, I only posted about my personal experience after she triggered a pretty severe course of flashbacks. So far, I'm at 3 over the course of 4 days. But no. What's more important is that she gets an apology for something I never said in the first place. Never mind the fact that, after those links, I sat here mentally reliving my rapes trying to work out if either of my rapists, or the guy who sexually assaulted me fitted those profiles. Whether it was my fault for not spotting the "rapist trait" she started describing. And you know the worst part? I doubt I'm the only person her posts had that effect on. In fact, I'd be willing to bet a lot of rape survivors reading this thread may have had the same feelings after reading her posts. But, rather than her accepting she caused a load of upset, both her and several of your friends have insisted on making this even more painful, by now accusing me of bullying her. Yet you can't find the evidence to back that up.

Thanks a bunch Thanks

AlysWorld · 08/10/2011 22:16

Might like to know, sure. I bring all sorts of stuff to the board that other feminists might like to know.

Tell them off and accuse them of doing nothing, use it as a stick to beat with, and not actually explaining what it is, not a technique that I go for.

Tortington · 08/10/2011 22:16

actually ella you did suggest that i dont have my own mind and that i cannot be impartial.

which is clearly untrue

EllaDee · 08/10/2011 22:19

Fortunately, I didn't suggest that. Re-read my posts, they are quite clear.
