I was thinking of starting a book club on here for people who are keen readers. I normally read true life memoirs like 'My Sisters Keeper'.

I was thinking we could choose a book to read. Allow a couple of weeks to read it, then when you have finished, come on here to discuss thoughts etc...

Anyone interested let me know asap! Just finished a book and want to start a new one!

I might like to join in occasionally - have just had a birthday so have a few books to get through. Depends if can get the books in the library as a bit skint! Recently read My Sister's Keeeper, and One Child (Torey Hayden). Now on Angels & Demons (Dan Brown). I read anyrhing & everything on the bus each day.

We are in the process of setting up a library if you are interested - you could combine that with a discussion group.

It isn't off the ground yet - Tech is working on it at the moment. Hopefully it will be running in a couple of weeks.

Freddiecat · 19/05/2005 10:44

wendy33 - great idea

I am (notionally) the book club coordinator on Mumsnet but since the arrival of baby 2 I have not had the time.

If you have a look back in the threads (about a year or so) we had a few book discussions going.
in March 2004 and here . There are some others but I can't find them.

Possession was the first we read, also a light reading discussion of Green Grass by Rafaella Barker. Also Fingersmith.

Then we had a couple publisher sponsored ones - Babyface by Fiona Gibson and The Cruel Mother by Sian Busby where they gave away 10 free copies.

I've got quite a few ideas and maybe some tips and things if you want to contact me on contact another talker.

Love to join in if I get a moment!

Lizzylou · 19/05/2005 10:47

Would love to get involved in this, need to stretch my brain a bit!

Cybermum · 19/05/2005 11:02

I'm new here, but would like to join this - its a graet idea. I'm a keen reader but never seem to find the time to choose a new book.

ChaCha · 19/05/2005 13:06

Sounds great! I love reading..i've almost finished Northern Lights (at long last - have had it for ages) anyone else?
Moving on to some of the African writer series...

mozarellamamma · 19/05/2005 15:16

Hi there I'm a newie and would love to join your book club. I'll remember to keep an eye out.

jakeybob · 19/05/2005 18:29

I borrow all of my books from the library and it takes at least a fortnight to recieve the book ordered. Therefore I would need to know in advance what we would be reading.

I try and read every night before I go to sleep to 'clear' my head!
I usually pick my books up from boot sales and charity shops.
I'm currently half way through 'Cloud Atlas', which was recommended on an online book club but I found the website quite difficult to use.
I think a discussion group would be good on this site.

TwoIfBySea · 19/05/2005 22:28

Wendy, sounds like a great idea! There is no one else I can talk to about books without them getting a glazed look on their face, or maybe that is just me!

Milliways, try the Book People or ASDA/Tesco for books. That is how I feed my habit!

It would be good if the books chosen were available at these stores for those of us on a tight budget!

christie1 · 20/05/2005 02:04

Count me in. What books do you have in mind for discussion?

cori · 20/05/2005 09:55

I would like to join too. I want to read more books this year. Last book I read (about 2months ago) was 'The Last emperess'.

curlydolly · 20/05/2005 10:34

Hi I'm quite new on here but love the idea of this - I always panic when I finish a good book as I never know what to read next so a book club would really help!
